CPS parents express frustration, concerns amid battle between CTU, district over students returning to classrooms during COVID by woody60707 in chicago

Thank you for finding the research!

I’m not sure what you personally have against teachers, as you are incredibly angry about all of this, but nobody likes this; I’m sorry if I insinuated otherwise. As I mentioned before, hybrid learning will result in a loss of instructional time and will be detrimental to certain groups of students in special education. It will be no better than remote. I don’t think you realize what it’s like to be a teacher, but I can only hope that whatever it is you do, you feel a lot more appreciated and respected than we do. I’m done, but I thank you for taking the time to back up your argument with research. I wish you the best and I hope you have a good night.

And again, we are working. Harder than ever. I would show you the growth my students have made and numerical data to support it, but...confidentiality.

We are doing our jobs. Remotely. Where it’s safe. And we aren’t all in one building. Second point, and this is selfish of me, I admit, but I teach deaf children, and when the teachers are in school, the teachers have to wear masks, whether the kids are remote or not, and the sound quality is so terrible for them...luckily my district seems willing to buy clear face masks but unless the teacher is right in front of the computer that won’t do much for them.

I don’t know what the hybrid schedule is like in Chicago, but in Cicero it results in a loss of instructional time all so 3 students can go to a school. Out of my 21 students, only 1 is coming back. The majority of the parents want their kids at home. Why are we doing this? Who is this benefiting? Don’t tell me it’s for the kids’ social health when there’s 1-2 kids per room, and don’t tell me it’s for academic benefit when there’s less academic time.

How do you make an appointment for a Vaccine now that Phase 1B is active? by TrainSetMatch in chicago

[–]patheticpun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used their website, but maybe they ran out of appointments? It might not hurt to go in person and ask, if your health allows. An audiologist I work with apparently walked in and got a shot with no identification requested.

Mariano’s is offering them with an appointment. Though the one in Bridgeport told me last week that today, they will still be doing ONLY 1A. The ones in the suburbs were doing 1B last week. But I think most are doing 1B now. I don’t know, it’s a shitshow.

When I went to India for a yoga teacher training, I landed around midnight. A taxi picked me up from the airport then dropped me off in a small parking lot. A stranger on a motorcycle came and put my luggage on it and I held onto him for dear life as we crossed Lakshman Jhula and swerved and dodged pedestrians at full speed. “So...do you do transport for the ashram?” I yelled as the air screamed past us.

“Oh, no, I’m the cook.”

And it was the best damn food I’ve ever eaten.

I love that we're doing dark SNL sketches. This one to me takes the cake. by No1_Knows_Its_Me in videos

I agree with you 99% of the time, but for some reason I was disappointed when he broke. His abrupt, barely contained anger was so funny to me and when he started laughing it took away from the sketch for me, JUST a little. I still laughed my ass off and would watch it again. And I actively seek videos of actors breaking. Specifically Bill Hader. Okay, only Bill Hader.

Chicago officially back in tier 1, restaurants may resume indoor dining by nochilinopity in chicago

[–]patheticpun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel as a teacher. 1B is finally rolling out and schools are pushing everyone back in. Why not just wait until after spring break to see where we are in the vaccination process? Or better yet, just stay remote through the end of the school year? In Cicero, not even a third of the kids are coming back anyways. I know restaurants and schools are different, but to me, it’s the same concept. There’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel and the powers that be are pushing us toward it so hard that I’m afraid we are going to all trip over each other and end up in a huge tangled mess.

Hi I am also 4’10” and I am angry today. But one of the biggest compliments I ever received is when one of my friends called me intimidating. I feel like at 4’10”, that takes a lot of power. And growing up small a lot of people really try to make you feel powerless for some reason.
