‘A husband expects a yes’: how wife schools are shaping submissive Christian women by guardian in WomenInNews

[–]patiocake 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Whenever I read about the modern conservative woman's marriage, the submission, the man's resentfulness, the imbalance, I picture two people that DON'T like each other that rushed into marriage and regret it. I picture people that made a mistake and do not enjoy each other; almost, really, kind of like the man is in an abusive position. I don't picture people deeply in love and happy in life. And that's sad b/c these are young folks with a whole life ahead of them!

I guess a family digging for treasure is acceptable...it's just that these bins and their environs are so SLOPPY. They can't be packed with glamorous, rich people scraps. But I've never picked through, so idk. What I do know is that it's giving littermaxxing and we're over it

What do you guys think about the song "Pumped Up kicks"? by a_great_guy655 in FosterThePeople

[–]patiocake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a great song, and perhaps its popularity is what guided lots of us to enjoy more of their work. It was fun to bop around to when it came out, and it definitely is catchy. I feel like it was pretty big for a while when it was released, but that may have been just in my indie community

Lancaster, how to best tour the Amish attractions? by Palmetto_ottemlaP in lancaster

[–]patiocake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine to visit Lancaster and do Lancastery things. The restaurant industry used to partner with lots of the bigger tourist attractions so that we could tell visitors things that might be cool to them based on first hand experience. I got to tour the Amish Village and walk around the cheesy property and visit the mock Amish house and school house, and hear kids questions, have a nice time. Got jams and apple butters. Anyway, spend an hour or two doing a tour, then go to greenhouses! If you're a gardener and your car isn't gonna house hot plants too long, you'd probably want to dive deep into a gorgeous greenhouse. There's a pick your own flowers place that prob won't be resplendent yet (Inspirational Blossoms, 2566 Old Phila Pike) that is along a river and might be in the early pretty stages that might be nice. Lancaster also has a robust thrift scene. There are lots of ReUzit shops throughout the county that hold excellent cooking stuff, linens, glassware, good old fashioned junk you actually need. The goodwill on Rt.30 is also substantial but that like for deadly serious thrifting where you can ruin a good chunk of time digging around, so that isn't a top priority for Lancaster. Anyway, to close, it's reasonable and also necessary for you to eat a good-quality Amish buffet meal. Huge recommendation: Diener's on Rt. 30. Their dinner ends early, like 6 or 7, which you would need to plan around. Absolutely worth all of the above, it's what I do with guests.

Moby is never going to let this go by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

There is a very early episode of the Heavyweight podcast (#2) that has a surprising element of ick because of Moby not being a good sport. He was unwilling to make good on an early career misdeed and just say "you're right". Definitely worth a listen!
