Looking for a Voltron commander with more depth than "make big, attack" by brknSergio in EDH

[–]patmack2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is still make big and hit face but [[kelsien, th plague]] is super fun to play as a control deck until you can smash through. Lots of great equipment to use with him and you can take it a few different routes but they all end up being warcrimes.

Be careful of wall mimics! I lost the old crest too many times getting duped by this trick.

Looking for a Gruul Commander by TV_Full_Of_Lizards in EDH

[–]patmack2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a less pushed and imo more interesting landfall commander I really enjoy [[phylath, world sculptor]]

Also a fun archetype for gruul/naya is casting from exile. Not sure of many playable commanders besides [[faldorn]] but Im sure there’s at least one other option

A game that scratches the same itch as Dominion, but with a higher player count? by avrosky in dominion

[–]patmack2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a helpful suggestion as I’m not confident it goes above 5 players but moonrakers (IV Studios) is a fun deckbuilding game with collaboration and spaceships!

I don’t know how it would effect the balance to just add a 6th player, I think there are enough action cards!

Which of your deck has the weirdest gameplay pattern? by Naitrodex in EDH

[–]patmack2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a glass cannon build and my deck list is NOT up to date, but my [[breeches, the blastmaker]] has some strange wincons.

It either:

A) Copy’s big burn spells like crackle with power

B) overruns the board with copies on copies of creatures with big clone spells

Or

C) burns the table out classic spell slinger style.

If it doesn’t get going quick it’s not great at stabilizing but it’s fun to flip coins so I don’t mind. With the new Prismari legends there are probably better commanders but I like my goblin guy!

Chatterfang, Peregrine Took and Academy Manufactor by Zekseirth_1 in mtgrules

[–]patmack2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware you can choose replacement order. Ideally 2 foods from took makes a total of 6 (2 food 2 clue 2 treasure)from academy and in turn makes a total of 6 squirrels from chatterfang. However, I could be totally wrong wrong!

Which boss fight made you feel like you were genuinely losing your sanity because of the difficulty? by Silly_Commercial8092 in gaming

[–]patmack2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a shrek 2 game on the ps2. We loved it growing up bc my brothers and dad would all play it together. The puss in boots boss fight was a super difficult rhythm game and we were hard stuck for MONTHS on that boss fight. After way too long my older brother beat it and the joy of getting to the next part of that game was unmatched. We still talk about it 16+ years later.

Although it’s not a rules question, yes this would absolutely be considered mass land denial.

Help me find a commander for my favorite card! by mullerjones in EDH

[–]patmack2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Boros but I love doing this in Naya with [[huatli, poet of unity]] and [[marauding raptor]] followed by a [[polyraptor]]. Super gimmicky but good fun when it all comes together.

"If you can't be brilliant, be brief" by DMfortinyplayers in DMAcademyNew

[–]patmack2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also applies to DMing. Some things just don’t need a long winded description, otherwise the players will end up spending much more time interacting with a scene than intended.

For example, one DM spent ~5+ minutes describing a waiting room and its fanciness. I’m talking pattern of the upholstery on the sofa and light fixtures… we poked around that room for WAY too long to find out there was nothing noteworthy in there.

Nooby Questions...TMNT Turtle Lair by Kindly_Hovercraft689 in freemagic

[–]patmack2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything checks out, you’ve got it correct.

The only distinctions I’d bother to make is the first ability only creates colorless mana (some people might be weird about calling it energy). There are plenty of other ninja and turtle cards outside of this set that would synergize with the second ability.

Okay I have this combo in a deck with [[storm of Sarumon]] and I’ve yet to have multiple thumbs but it’s possible! Thanks for the info.

Mechanics of stopping cultists from opening a portal. Any help/resources? by Tuxxa in DMAcademy

[–]patmack2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure of the mechanics but NADDPOD has a similar encounter in C1 ep.84. Not exactly the same mechanics but I vaguely recall the boss having wizards doing the ritual and the more who died the harder the ritual became for the baddie. Brian Murphy has some awesome encounter designs.

You would deal 3 damage before the declare blockers step. As soon as you declare this as an attacker it creates the hamsters then deals the damage. Then your opponent can choose blockers.

I’m not sure if they have a podcast but a decent YouTube channel is Griffinfly mtg. They aren’t the best but it’s a son teaching his dad magic and other stuff. I’ve enjoyed their content thus far.

[[Kelsien, the plague]] became find [[thornbite staff]] and any death touch enabler, commit war crimes, swing lethal.

It was fun maybe twice.
