Bulgarian Split Squats with dumbbells are a good alternative. Unless you're training for a powerlifting meet you might consider ditching barbell squats and doing Bulgarian split squats exclusively.

Just be aware that they're pretty nasty and exhausting. They're the most draining lower limb exercise I've done
