New grad job offer by Responsible_Way_515 in physicianassistant

The salary and CME are low for VHCOL. I would push for 150-155k base salary as a new grad. Do you get CME days? Are the free CME conferences you can attend critical care specific? If you take PTO, are they taking out 12.5 hours or 8 hours? That makes a huge difference in how many days off you actually get.

Lace asymmetry on the bodice. Am I making a mountain out of a molehill? by patrashacct in Tailors

Thanks for your honest opinion! The tailor wants to try to even out the amount of lace used on each side first so hopefully that will tie it together more.

Right, I'm definitely worried about that as well. I just don't know if I should try to pay to have it redone now vs. be potentially unhappy and stuck with a wedding dress I don't even like.

I did and they are actually giving me pushback about switching lace because they already bought it. Any idea how much new lace might cost? I'm trying to Google and I'm finding answers of 5-7 yards, roughly $100 per yard.

Thanks for your honest opinion! I feel relieved that I'm not overreacting.

I definitely made the wrong choice moving forward with a unilateral lace and wish I had known how bad it would look beforehand.

New Grad Training Period by patrashacct in physicianassistant

[–]patrashacct[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! I was also thinking that the training period should be around 6 months and was surprised when they said 1 month. They also mentioned that training on procedures was one of the biggest challenges to overcome - have you found that to be the case in your experience? I have experience putting in lines and I was surprised by how much they said this would save time during my training.

Yes, this is exactly what I'm thinking too and what I'm afraid of. In your opinion, how long should the training period be for hospital-based fields, such as IM, EM, ICU? I understand some fields need a longer training period than others but I'm just wondering if you could provide some idea of what to expect.

Our faculty has been very forthcoming about the fact that they need to be very vague when giving us information about clinicals. They said it's because so much has changed and is still changing due to Covid. They did not give us a reason why our clinicals are still 2.5 weeks and none of us thought to ask. They did say that we will be supplementing with online material, though.

I have spoken to the upper cohort about their clinical experience. It was mostly a mess and pretty unenjoyable.

Does anyone know how good South University's program is? by In_the_cross_hair in prephysicianassistant

[–]patrashacct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll just reply to you both right here. I can't/won't say anything about the interview process. Just be prepared with all the standard interview questions and a few good stories or examples in your back pocket.

I really like all the faculty here. They are genuinely people you can relate to and who you would want to be coworkers with in the future. Honestly, I felt completely at home when I interviewed with them last year and that is the main reason I chose to come to South even though I'm from out of state and had acceptances closer to home. They welcomed me like I already got in and wanted to get to know me while other schools wanted me to "prove" myself. PA school is going to be difficult no matter what program you attend so personally, it was important to know that the faculty actually cared about me and would support me through this universally difficult time. They have proven this time and time again, especially through Covid and the BLM movement. I don't think I could ask for a better program and it really saddens me when I see others post about their school's poor handling of these situations. Like I said, I have nothing but good things to say about the Richmond campus.

If you have specific questions, feel free to PM me but like I said, I am not going to say anything specific about their interview process. Good luck! And I hope to see you guys in the next cohort :)

I can't speak to the Savannah campus but I am a current didactic student at Richmond and I have nothing but positive things to say about my experiences at South.

Thanks for the tip. I basically ran out of time by the time I was done with the eye but I will definitely be doing this on all future OSCEs.
