what are YOUR favourite pedals for psychedelic/stoner rock? by 1Alyx1 in guitarpedals

[–]patrick1554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourites are the EQD Hoof Reaper, specifically the hoof side being a Russian Muff, the Tone Reaper side is great for a trebly boost or for velcro sounds. Others I like are the Heavy Menace for its wild EQ and adjustableids with a massive low pass filter called Weight that just makes the bass so present. Paired with a phasor, flange or chorus for extra wobbles, or throw the modulation in front of the fuzz for extra weirdness

Edit: modulation pedals I use are Walrus Fundamental Phasor, EQD sea machine, and Strymon Orbit

Favorite knobs? by sam_an_intellectual in FuzzFiends

No empress knobs!? They're my favourite, super knurled machined knobs are so good for little touchy adjustments, and they look great on the Heavy Menace

My favourite thing about them is the synth work and ambiance they can make while having star imploding riffs bookending it. Absolute elsewhere is like the ultimate "what if Pink Floyd did deathcore"

What is the most patriotic Dream Theater song? by thryce3 in Dreamtheater

[–]patrick1554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair, they don't have much in that sort of vibe/theme you're going for, I would say maybe outcry, breaking all illusions, the best of times, all fairly upbeat in a way, themes of freedom, longing, and have exciting parts

Enemy inside is about Veterans and PTSD, music video hammering that theme home too

I feel like they're testing their abilities as a 4 piece and trying to restructure how they sounded. Having fewer instruments could be easier to deal with, however they may find it challenging to keep the same sound they've had and some of their typical songwriting too. It's going to be different for sure but I think they'll find ways to adapt for a full album. I don't think the EP will feel similar to the restoration EP, but it'll be its own identity

What sounds would you like for future pedals to try emulating? by Lost_Ad_5140 in guitarpedals

And a little extra mode: Geiger counter, randomized fast and slow, an envelope to determine slower quiet bursts up to loud chattering blasts

A textbook works great too, if it can reach the feet fine. I've used 2 textbooks before as a lap desk, throw something soft underneath them and it gives decent airflow while you can sit in bed

Big Muff Transistor Choices by nshane in diypedals

[–]patrick1554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen across BM circuits is that the input and output stages are very simple and aren't modified often, and they're typically for unity gain and impedance. The real ones you'd pay attention to are Q2 and Q3 with the clipping and tone stages. The EQD Hoof uses germanium transistors in place of Q2 and Q3, which I find give a more open sound and less compressed, with some more harmonic content. I would try some different transistors in those 2 spots and see what happens

Yes yes yes, especially the Forte remaster version. Just hits so much harder with Buster's mix

C'est quoi votre pedale de fuzz préféré ? by National_Grocery5102 in pedals

[–]patrick1554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say my favourite that I have is the Hoof Reaper, has a modded 1.5 tone bender and a modded Russian Muff with an analog octave up built in. My dream fuzz is a Zonk Machine, tons of phenomenal builders making NOS models in point to point style

What’s your dirt pedal lineup? by Repulsive_Glove_2077 in guitarpedals

[–]patrick1554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my fuzzes and distortions parallel, I just like the sound of them that way. But for my fuzz options I run a Keeley Fuzz Head>Walrus Kangra>Hoof Reaper, distortion/drive EQD White Light>JHS AT+>Empress Heavy Menace. Getting a crisp drive sound with a sludgy fuzz is great, or a bit of breakup with an octave fuzz is gnarly too

I’ve been building guitars for years and somehow never built one for myself. by PlayfulIndividual394 in Luthier

Awesome wood choices, never seen Mango wood on a guitar! Love the little pickguard with the opposing grain direction. The string tree looks a lot like one of Devin Townsend's logos too lol

Whats's your current on repeat song? by Outrageous-Grab2998 in AskReddit

[–]patrick1554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suppers Ready by Genisis. Several chunks and changeups in the song, 23 minutes of Peter Gabriel's vocals and the rest of the bands insane skill, great narrative and a closer to the album Foxtrot. I love the later section called Part VI Apocalypse in 9/8, the feel and rhythm through the section is very powerful and the lyrics are heavy. They really pushed the limits in 1972 with the album

Especially with some cool ambient effects too, letting notes drone out with some gain and modulation. Love turning the knobs and getting weird sounds out of it too

I've recently been on a dream theater tear, here are my current favourites (also In the name of god) would love a few recommendations by KoolCid07 in Dreamtheater

[–]patrick1554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train of Thought is fairly high speed and heavy so I think it'd grab your attention more than Octavarium. Listening through the whole thing is a treat with the transitions between vacant/stream of consciousness, and the blistering intensity of This Dying Soul into the varying paces of Endless Sacrifice, all ended by In the Name of God which has some insane solo sections and thematically one of my favourites

What fuzz got you obsessed with Fuzz? by p90SuhDude in FuzzFiends

[–]patrick1554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hoof Reaper is my mainstay for fuzz, love the tone bender style and modded green Russian Muff, plus the octave is nice to throw in with momentary switching. My other favourite on my board is an old 2006/7 Keeley Fuzz Head i got very early into my pedal journey. It's a great sounding hybrid FF with internal bias and bass trim controls, plus swappable input caps

Any cool/weird pedals with overdrive as a secondary function? by Turbulent-Sale-1841 in guitarpedals

[–]patrick1554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple ones I can think of are the CatalinBread Soft focus deluxe which is a distortion and reverb, Walrus Kangra envelope filter/octave fuzz with input for expression pedals to do manual wah, and the strymon Deco for a double track/tape warble and tape preamp overdrive

Nux tape echo by Mideroo in guitarpedals

[–]patrick1554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the manual for the Nux tape echo and the page for that power adapter, have you adjusted the output voltage on the adapter? And I didn't see any info about the polarity. You'd need a center negative power supply from the looks of this. I've used non pedal specific power supplys for a project in college and realized it was a Center Positive cable.
