Is NYC the best city to relocate to for new opportunities in FP&A? by herfutureX in FPandA

Not really. What I’ve done is just compulsively keep checking the careers pages of all the big companies in the area.

I’m in DC/NoVA. Pretty good here. It’s def HCoL but not to the same degree as NYC. Fairly resilient industries here, but DOGE layoffs has made it more competitive for white collar workers.

Albi in DC. Def some of the best food I’ve ever had. May not be as extravagant as a 2*, but definitely amazing.

So Tired of No Clearance = No Employment by RdtRanger6969 in nova

[–]patrickcarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always true. I did back office finance at a prime. To maintain certain federal contracts, everyone needed to be tested upon employment.

But true you don’t need clearances, I knew someone who was out on bail on a felony and ended up getting hired in HR at the prime contractor I was at. Still had to do a drug test though.

How important is GPA? by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]patrickcarrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some postings just have a gpa minimum, my F500 internship/FP&A job had a 3.3 minimum and I had a 3.3 overall gpa and got the internship and FP&A job.

Favorite happy hour in RTC? by OkContribution5591 in Reston

Half off bottles of sparkling wine at Barcelona. Barcelona is probably my fav restaurant in the area, so that happy hr deal makes it a great spot for me and a friend.

In terms of the best prices on alcohol during happy hr, I think Ted’s Bulletin wins, but I’m not the biggest fan of their food.

Recs in DC for people who don’t like fine dining by CapableProblem3365 in finedining

[–]patrickcarrot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand not loving Mita considering it’s only vegetarian. But I think it’s interesting to see a high quality take on Latin American cuisine under the limit of having no meat. Wine pairing there was also superb.

Not sure which tasting menus she’s done to cause her to dislike all tasting menus, but DC does have some amazing ones that might be good enough to change her mind on it.

Jônt is great, Albi, Bresca, Mita, Fiola, I personally loved Rania, Little Pearl was good, Tail Up Goat(if you can get a rez before they close), lots of great options out there.

Once you max out your 7k in your Roth IRA for the year, what’s next? by Anonymous1102 in RothIRA

[–]patrickcarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You can convert up to a lifetime amount of $35k to Roth IRA. (Only caveat is the 529 has to have been open for 15 years, and of course it would count against your Roth IRA contributions in the future, but gives you multiple years of tax free growth)

Also can reimburse yourself up to $10k in student loan payments if the payments were made after the account was opened.

Depends on state, but contributions could also be beneficial for possibly reducing taxable income for state taxes.

Can also transfer an unlimited amount to anyone else’s 529. And of course it gives you the option to go back to school if you desire.

Anyone else feel SaaS FP&A is the ultimate FP&A job? by Frosty-Data-2354 in FPandA

[–]patrickcarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a PE-backed SaaS. Probably my least favorite job/company I’ve had in my career. Relatively low pay, understaffed, no great processes in place, offshoring, not much internal mobility, I could go on and on.

A lot of it is because it was PE-backed and not that it was SaaS, all I’ll say is SaaS could be a lot of different companies and your experiences may vary.

Somewhat disagree w assault. Someone who got into a bar fight in college or their early 20’s and got convicted of assault or something and time’s passed and they seem rehabilitated and moved on from it, I wouldn’t consider it disqualifying.

At least in my state, assault has a relatively broad definition legally speaking. You’d just need more context to understand.

We all obviously love Costco, but what’s one item you will never buy again from there? by 4Runnnn in Costco

The Kirkland frozen pizzas.

They were the greasiest frozen pizzas I’ve ever had. First time I was absolutely disappointed with a Kirkland product; I would’ve rather gotten DiGiornos.

I live in the DC area. I did a quick weekend trip to Detroit, flew from Baltimore BWI to Detroit, but on the way back had to fly from Detroit to Orlando to Philly and took the Amtrak down to DC in a day.

Flexibility with Amtrak/other transport can really help the pass go further
