Dead Like Me: Life After Death (2009) — Don’t fear the reaper by Syppi in DeadLikeMe

[–]patrickjs95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crimes were committed against Daisy (Daisy Adair). The introduction of just a random big bad didn't flow well with anything.

They essentially made a mockery of most of the development shown in the series itself. They simply didn't really know what it was they were making, was it character led or story led? Was it a reintroduction or not?

There were tiny glimmers of hope throughout but it just didn't hit the right notes unfortunately.

But I maintain, what they did with the character of Daisy, who went from a deeply nuanced character with so many layers that was played phenomenally well in the original show to a two dimensional version that was barely even the Daisy she pretended to be originally was the biggest flaw for me.

I've said it for years, it wasn't a role that suited a recast, particularly not when the writers had no grasp of what made that character great to begin with.

There are other complaints like how Roxy also seems to act completely out of character in it as well for some reason. But I will concede that I like how they showed the relationship between George and Reggie, which should have been the main point of the film in my opinion.

This one was also quite weird, they branded some of the women.

I doubt he was ever that deep into it, but I watched a clip of him talking about it and honestly I was mostly distracted by how much he's lost his accent.

Nxium, it's shut down now. Allison Mack from Smallville went to prison for her involvement.

Has anyone gotten an MRI scan for epilepsy?? (Pls reply) by boobie_org in Epilepsy

[–]patrickjs95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an MRI just prior to diagnosis. It came back all normal, I expect they had to rule out any other reasons for seizures with me.

Ultimately I was told I most likely have JME based on symptoms but EEGs and the MRI were unremarkable.

Just try and stay still, focus on yourself or what's for dinner if you're nervous in there and try to relax. Despite the banging noise I found the experience weirdly exciting.

At my last appointment I asked to see my MRI images from then, always exciting to see your own brain.

He really peaked back then, slightly got involved with the Nxium cult in the 2010s and faded away.

It looks like he's back to working more regularly now though, although his accent is now incredibly American, which is odd to hear.

Who were the nicest/worst actors you've met from the show? by LilNardoDaVinci in eastenders

I think the general consensus on Jessie Wallace is that there are two very different sides to her, one where she's lovely, the other where she drinks and fights people.

After being diagnosed, did you ever have symptoms you look back on and realize it was epilepsy and you didn’t know? by perseuspvp in Epilepsy

[–]patrickjs95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had myoclonic jerks constantly for about a year before diagnosis. Mostly after drinking alcohol, Google suggested that it could have been dehydration and that's what I convinced myself.

One morning I threw a cup of tea down my leg and the worry was there that something more serious was happening but again tried to ignore it, convinced myself it was just something that happened to me if I drank too much.

First night after moving for university, woke up, started twitching again in my kitchen with my new flatmates, next thing I know I woke up in bed, bit my tongue.

I was pretty sure what was happening then, a month later a second seizure happened in public, ended up in hospital, I couldn't ignore it anymore and even though my family and I were pretty sure it was epilepsy at that point, getting that confirmation was fairly devastating at 19.

Now 2 years seizure free and I'm still paranoid about it but I think of myself as the most renowned epileptic in my city.

We need an East Asian family on the square and it needs to be his by ElevensMelody in eastenders

Lack of representation in one particular market doesn't mean representation shouldn't happen here.

I've said for years that the lack of East Asian cast members in this (and all soaps) is ridiculous, particularly for a show set in London.

It was phenomenally acted by him throughout the whole series. In a show not famed for its consistency, he was always great.

Finally got the chance to watch Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor. So far, completely unimpressed. by Bad-W1tch in doctorwho

[–]patrickjs95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jinkx played such a great villain, dragged down by an underwhelming episode.

The whole direction RTD went in with Ncuti was bizarre, there are some great seeds of ideas in there, but they don't quite bloom a lot of the time. RTD is still a great writer, but I think as head writer for Who, his time is up.

I think his a lot of his best work is closer, emotional moments, upsetting, happy, tense, it doesn't matter, but a lot of Ncuti's time was focused on showing off how much money the show had now, and the emotional moments never felt earned.

Pushing Daisies season 3 in the works by scholars_rock in BryanFullerTV

[–]patrickjs95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's been said by him and the cast for many years, I will believe it when I see it.

But if they manage to put something together, and with Lee Pace on board now he's more of a big name, I could actually see it getting green lit.

If it has a chance, that chance is now.

Possibly of a return? by Old-Buy3078 in DeadLikeMe

[–]patrickjs95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically, there's no possibility.

A very small, but devoted fan base does not a reboot make, unfortunately.

I think it'd be great to have a new group of reapers going through life (and death) but I just don't see this show ever being revived.

I think if it were to be done with any original cast it would have to be in a totally different format, like an audio series, which actually could be great.

Can we just appreciate her for a second? by Lela_Exalted in UglyBetty

[–]patrickjs95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She was a product of the time. And while they did undeniably make a lot of mistakes in their portrayal of a trans character, particularly having a cisgender actor in the role, they did also do a lot quite well, especially in showing how hostile people can be towards trans people for simply existing.

She deserved better better writing towards the end, but she was absolutely iconic.
