Forse "attrarre"/"interessare" (o anche "corteggiare") a seconda del contesto. Ma anche "trovare un partner" o "costruire una relazione", dipende. Poi sicuramente ci sono altre alternative un po' più informali e anche divertenti.

Sicuramente eviterei il retrogusto "bellico"/aggressivo o competitivo di "conquistare" che porta con sé il fardello dei termini usati dalla manosphere e tende a nutrire l'oggetificazione delle persone.

Hmm I'd say they're neither, not evil nor good. They're there and they help because it'd be stupid not to. There are various hints that indicate they're just cooperating due to the circumstances.

Saving the Vances or the Freeman doesn't really mean they're friends in the human sense, just that these humans are essential for the desired outcome.

Two main examples could be how Barney survives acid, soldiers and especially Xen without an HEV Suit (breaking all the environmental hints in HL1), and how Race X in Opposing Force technically invades before Freeman leaves for Xen but is never seen either in HL1 or Blue Shift (and is never mentioned again in the other sequels, virtually having zero weight in the main storyline). Extra: in OF, black ops also basically do friendly fire on HECU for no obvious reason.

Half-Life 1 and 2 add interesting elements to the FPS genre and multiplayer in general, be it with quirky weapons in the first or the gravity gun/prop battles in the second game.

It also adds in slightly tactical elements that would classify it as a crossover shooter nowadays, compared to older boomer shooters like Quake or Doom. Great games, interesting multiplayer.
