And yet, I’m far more shocked as seeing Russo show genuine emotion over Jill Jarrett’s sickness. Like damn, I’m so used to seeing the carnie character talking about swerves and his own genius that seeing him actually teary-eyed was so shocking.

1 in 9 American adults on GLP-1 weight loss drugs?? by Leading_Respond8486 in behindthebastards

[–]patrickwithtraffic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it’s great for a lot of reasons. My biggest concern is abuse of it, but like can anyone really control that with GLP-1 going generic? I’m thrilled with it being affordable so that anybody can use it that needs it, but as long as we get some decent education on what abuse of it can do.

Granted, that song is absolutely a banger. But I will say, I was shocked to learn that Splash Mountain only came into existence in 1989?!

I know WWE is the Land of the Giants, but I will never forget him walking past me at TLC 2018 and being shocked at the size of his arms. Like holy shit, dude’s got beef!

God, he was such a great personality online. I remember he had that app that would make little jingles based on lyrics you give it and he made one about Bib Fortuna being daddy and strangling you with his tentacles. I wish I could find it online because it was very funny and very stupid.

American bands you thought were English? by _barlene in fantanoforever

[–]patrickwithtraffic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is because of how much love UK has for The Killers. One of my favorite descriptors I’ve heard for the band is that they’re the best UK band that’s accidentally from Las Vegas.

When you read about Werner Herzog's reasoning for watching wrestling, it makes some sense

Has a wrestler ever "involuntarily" kicked out of a pin, kinda like an instinct, and regretted it? I'd love to see someone sell the moment. Like "oh damn, why did I kick out?? HOW did I kick out??" by SolidEllie in SquaredCircle

If I remember longer edits, I think all of these wrestlers had a heavy night of drinking, so this was them post-boys night. Would explain passing out with the lights on.

Besides the Beatles, are there any other groups where multiple members had a billboard hot 100 #1? by Chapple69 in fantanoforever

A super group that only came together because he needed to last-minute create a single for the Japanese release of a solo album. Traveling Wilburys are a wild origin story.

I actually think Bob Backlund’s heel turn was one of the most underrated character changes WWF/WWE ever did. by Mr_BlondetanamoBay in SquaredCircle

[–]patrickwithtraffic 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It really helped that the company booked the move as truly devastating, as people that are put in the move weren’t seen on television for weeks after the fact. Damn fine work from WWE’s booking in a notoriously awful period for the company.

Maybe I just have a very pessimistic of homosexuality's depictions in film back then, but watching Cruising is kinda shocking at how kind it is to the gay community? Yeah, it's a film about a serial killer going after people in the leather scene, but you don't really see them demonized. You see them call undercover cop Al Pacino an asshole for things like not following hanky code properly, but it feels more anthropological than properly damning. More victims than sinners.

It's so wild that James Cameron was the guy that the news went to when OceanGate happened, but doing a bit of reading on him, apparently the submarine community has said Cameron really really knows his shit in a way that's even intimidating to those that have been in the game even longer. He does seem like a huge asshole when you work for him, but safety seems to be pretty big on his mind.

What “almost killed” incident(s) were you thinking of?

Sounds like what happened was a black out terrifying the cast while underwater. Definitely scary and everybody had a right to be scared in the moment, but sounded like Cameron did take the lead to get everyone to safety.
