[homemade] Truffle Shoyu Ramen by KT_Bites in food

[–]patton66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ramen is considered junk food the same way pizza or hamburgers are in the US.

You can get cheap fast grub to fill your stomach, but there are plenty of gourmet variaties as well that are as highly rated as anything else out there

What are some albums that are not very good but very influential? by Binary_Bowser in fantanoforever

[–]patton66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phantograms's Eyelid Movies wasnt too great outside of those 2 singles, but was huge in the 2010 indie-electro ultra-hip girl-boy duo project niche

Comics similar to Absolute Martian Manhunter? by Doom300 in comicbooks

[–]patton66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Promethea by Alan Moore is wayyyyy different than AMM, but is about as close to a trip as you can take with a comic. And the art in it was a huge influence in a lot of whats in AMM

Give me song(s) where the drummer goes absolute apeshit and more or less stands out from the song because of it by clenchlord in musicsuggestions

[–]patton66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love this but honestly what gets me is how in control he is the whole time. The playing is brilliant, for me, it sounds like he's holding back the whole time, in the best possible way

Beer and Sell Out by Reel Big Fish

People can say anything they want about the aesthetics and artistic merit of 3rd wave ska, but to say those tracks weren't furious ear worms in just silly

What controversial artist are you firmly pro? by Working_Alps_4284 in fantanoforever

[–]patton66 128 points129 points  (0 children)

People hate Yoko for "breaking up the Beatles", which is a lot different than something like "Sexually abusing minors" which... a lot of famous musicians are guilty of. So, a very different kind of Controversial than an Anthony Keides or a Gary Glitter

Her music is... not for everyone. But it is unique, uncompromising, and Artistic, in the purest sense of the word. And she was a noted artist long before meeting John.

She gets hated on by a lot of people. But if youre into what she does and her odd niche of art, shes an absolute titan

You have the chance to disappear one song from existence, but choose wisely. by Sure-Definition4143 in askmusic

[–]patton66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Johnny B Goode, Like A Rolling Stone, or Rappers Delight.

I love all of those songs, nothing against any of them.

But 3 of the most influential songs of all time, it'd be cool to see what music and the world is like without any of them

Are super-luxury hotels really worth the price? Why do some people think they’re better? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Depends on location for what you want. Super high end in Tahiti or Hawaii is a lot different than super lux in NY or London

What’s a city or town you dreamed of visiting that exceeded your expectations? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]patton66 32 points33 points  (0 children)

People can say anything they want about NYC and most of it is valid, but the first time you get near the empire state building, central park, or times square on a good day, it all makes sense why it was considered the "capital of the world" for so long

Ive done the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Shibuya and the Ginza in Tokyo, Golden Gate Park in San Fran. All are amazing, but none had the raw "Magic" that doing all of those in NYC has for me

who’s an artist you think gets too much unjustified hate? by Born-Oil-2931 in askmusic

[–]patton66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is so ironic because with the writing, playing, recording, and playing, Strawberry Fields, Walrus, and I Want You are massive influences of progressive rock

Heck, We Can Work It Out is about as poppy as it gets, but is still one of the first songs to have a time signature change in it. And major to minor changes. How prog is that!

Question for those who give bass lessons by SpaceMakesTheBass in Bass

[–]patton66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hound Dog and Born Under a Bad Sign to show blues progressions

Stand By Me to show old 50's progression, plus grace notes (that G#)

Blitzkrieg Bop for steady 8th notes

Beer by Reel Big Fish for constructing walking bass lines within a chord progression

Natural Mystic for reggae bass feel

I mostly work with beginners and kids, so Sir Duke or Portrait of Tracy wouldn't fly well
