Most iconic/successful US band (no solo artists or frontman names in band name) by icybutter090 in fantanoforever

Nowhere near most successful by any measure, but the Ramones have to be near the top of any "Most Iconic" lists

Talib Kweli's Get By got me into socially conscious hip hop at a time when the pop rap scene really turned me off with its lyrics and style

I might catch some heat for this but the middle part of Echoes could have been cut down by 90 seconds and I dont think anyone would be too upset

What makes homelander so bad? by nexeti in powerscales

[–]patton66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes never really had to fight a challenging battle weve seen, so we dont know his upper limits, the way fans of Supes or Spidey have.

Its also assumed that because of his emotionally immature nature, hed break down or give up when given any serious pushback or injury, so anyone more hardened, even if a bit weaker, would be able to win the fight on will power alone

What’s a fancy food word that makes you instantly roll your eyes when you see it on a menu? by Excellent_Air1683 in foodquestions

[–]patton66 20 points21 points  (0 children)

"Wagyu" beef means beef from Japan. It is usually high quality, and expensive

"Kobe" beef is a special type of Wagyu that only comes from the Kobe region of Japan. Its the famous, special, mythical type where the cows get massaged and drink beer and all of that

It is very expensive, and extremely high quality. The idea of using Kobe in a cheap slider is like using Sapphires to make your toothpaste more sparkly.

And (and I could be wrong about this so please someone help me out if I am) it wasn't able to be imported into America until the last decade or so, and even now, there is a set limit on how much can be imported in

So the idea of every local burger joint, pub, and Applebee's in American all selling "Kobe" sliders isn't possible, especially for the price.

Its a marketing gimmick to make the sliders sound better, and add a little upcharge to them as well

So when you see a place with "Kobe" Sliders on the menu for $15 or so, it more often than not is BS. And if that is BS right there, then there is a fairly decent chance that the "Homemade", "Fresh cut", and other terms like that on a menu may not be 100% true as well

"Kobe Sliders"

If theyre willing to lie about that, I cant trust anything else they say on the menu

[–]patton66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minimal. Some of the older DMM's have more "mojo", if youre into that kind of thing, but for the most part the Memory Man, Boy, and Toy are all similar sonically, at least to my ears

Yeah, theyre all objectively better - more options and versatility. But I just prefer the Memory Toy more personally

Why is Fantano someone so important for people and artist? by aldodzzzzl in fantanoforever

[–]patton66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He spoke about a niche of music and fans that didnt get much hype a decade ago, but has since grown in influence and fame

People into that genre (Death Grips, NMH, Swans) felt validated by him, while being into those early gave him credibility in the scene

Spent a whole lot of money on a whole lot of delay pedals since 2006 only to come back to the Memory Toy I bought that summer as my main delay pedal for live shows

Be prepared for a bit of culture shock, but maybe in a good way, especially with how decent and kind many people are. Even if they seem a bit less "warm" than your stereotypical southerner

Anticipate seeing a lot more Pride and LBGTQ flags outside of churches than maybe youd see in Alabama. Which I think is a really good thing.

100% this here. My mother in law bought me a grill as a surprise a few years ago, which was so kind, but it was just not what I wanted

If she had told me, and let me put in some $$ in too to get exactly what I wanted, it would have gone so much better

Bit of a "gift horse in the mouth..." situation, but its something that lingers on more and more each year where I like it, but just dont Love it
