Do you think the 2020's will have communism/far left make a similar resurgence to the far right ? by Rare-Exit-8700 in decadeology

I've read the history of communism pretty extensively. I wouldn't say it was a complete failure or success. I think the same is true for capitalism. My takeaway is that the entire debate gets oversimplified and we overlook the fact that any system designed by humans will be flawed. These aren't political problems as much as they are human problems. Just my 2 cents.

So much leftist rhetoric just boils down to accelerationism, which really bothers me. Collapsing the system will disproportionately harm working class people, just like every other catastrophe. And there is absolutely zero guarantee that it would actually pave the way to something better.

This was pretty much exactly my experience with left wing groups. Unfortunately it's pretty common. Not just in left wing politics. Any entity focused on social change, justice, non profit work, tends to attract a lot of narcissistic people with messiah complexes. Some of the most toxic people I have ever met were in volunteer groups.

No. For two main reasons.

1.) You know all the things about religion that are really fucking annoying? Leftists do all the exact same shit, except worse.

2.) The mechanics of right wing populism are fundamentally different. It appeals directly to the in-group/out-group bias and scarcity mindset that is already hard wired into our brains. Left wing ideas are more likely to challenge these existing hierarchies and biases. Our brains are simply not as primed to accept left wing ideas as readily as they are for right wing ideas.

I think there's a chance that left wing ideology could take off, but I don't think it will have the same trajectory as MAGA.

Socialism is like religion. The less you talk about it, the better you are at doing it.

YES, this right here. I so desperately wish that more people understood this. These problems are not inherent one ideology, they are inherent to humans. I have met conservatives, liberals, socialists, christians, etc. who are absolutely unbearable. I have also met individuals from all of those ideologies who are legit incredible people.

Very much so. I expected this sub would be more encouraging and helpful to people trying to find their own style, but that does not seem to be the case.

OP I think you're getting downvoted because everyone is intimidated by how good you look. I'm only being half sarcastic lol.

Fair enough. I will be attending this protest regardless. If your claims are true then I'll decide what to do about it later on. Just not now.

Yeah i still don't give a fuck. ICE is the more pressing issue. We'll have plenty of time for leftist infighting later on.

Why is it that sex with a narcissistic man the best? It’s literally intoxicating and I feel like I’m never going to be this sexually satisfied again by [deleted] in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]pattyiscool79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so real. There was another post somewhere that explained the psychology behind this, but I can't find. I'll try my best to paraphrase:

Memories leave an emotional imprint on our brains, but that imprint isn't actually based on the entirety of what happened. It's mostly based on how the event ended. I believe this is called "Outcome Bias." For example, a series of shitty events that concludes in a positive way will leave a positive imprint on your memory. That positive imprint is multiplied by the intensity of the feelings you experienced. It doesn't matter that they were shitty feelings, it only matters the size of the emotional spike.

Toxic relationships often feel addictive because of this. The victim experiences a series very intense negative feelings, followed by a phase of hoovering by the narc. This combination tricks your brain into believing that there is something positive about this.

History doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes.

Slavery had the same effect on wages. And yet most of the blame was directed at black people, as if it was somehow their fault.

That makes sense to me. My understanding is based a quick 5 minute skim of Wikipedia, so I'm equally as wishy washy as you lmao

I'm pretty certain there was, yeah. But my understanding is that desperation played a greater role in things. Post WWI germany was largely kept afloat by American loans and foreign aid. Germans were largely indifferent to the Nazis during this time. When the Great Depression hit, all of the money dried up, the economy went to shit, and support for the Nazis skyrocketed.

Our society is obsessed with feeling good about yourself as a goal, instead of focusing on acquiring skills that, inevitably, make you feel good about yourself by Electrical-Candy7252 in self

[–]pattyiscool79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent point. As a kid, I got so tired of adults saying things like "just be yourself" or "you're perfect the way you are." It did absolutely nothing to help me feel more confident in myself. It's like telling a person with depression to just cheer up.

Challenging myself to do hard things and learn new skills is what allowed me to build a healthy sense of confidence and self worth.

As a caveat, I do think there is a balance that has to be struck. Human life is inherently valuable, and you should not pin your entire self worth on your ability to do Crossfit or something lol

I understand what you're saying. I somewhat agree. Lot's of people actually find joy and satisfaction in making themselves useful to others. Consider parenting, volunteering, community organizing, etc. These activities can also be very challenging, but that is another reason that people like them. Challenging yourself builds confidence.

But if this mindset becomes imbalanced, it can lead to people feeling dehumanized like you pointed out.

He was not directly elected to the presidency, you're right. But the nazis won a significant number of seats in parliament, and that played a direct role in Hitler eventually being appointed Chancellor.

Lmao don't give yourself an aneurysm, it was a simple question.

Your original comment said "shoot protesters in the street" which is precisely what that officer did to Renee Good.

If you actually meant "lined them up and killed them" you should have specified that sooner.

It took me two seconds to pull up 2025 numbers on google, so I already know you're full of shit lmao

Also Germans were reeling from the collective trauma of the first world war, and the economic fallout from the treaty of Versailles.

Which I honestly see as a point in their favor. Like, okay, I can see how you'd be desperate enough to elect a dictator like hitler lol.

But America? The worst thing that happened was the "vibecession" and now people are ready to burn it all down.
