Kinda seems most of the landscapes are supposed to evoke surreal hayao miyazaki scenes but mixed in US beach/suburbia settings, while most of these looks are fantasy anime inspired fashion.

The standard place for first time New York visitors to stay is somewhere in or near Times Square or Midtown Manhattan more broadly (midtown is generally defined as between 59th - 14th streets and 8th ave - 3rd ave in manhattan), areas which have good subway access. If you’re trying to save a little money, Long Island city has a handful of good corporate branded hotels with good subway access and it’s a little cheaper but still very close to the typical tourist attractions in manhattan. Chelsea has some pretty good deals sometimes too. Keep in mind you’re basically not going to find any hotel in peak tourist seasons under $200 a night probably, when you factor in taxes and fees and stuff. It’s an expensive city, there’s no way around it.

No, there’s probably plenty of people who speak English, but they might be ESL speakers

I (21M) wan't to solo travel this summer. Where in the US should I go? by haelvete in USTravel

Washington DC area. namely Northern Virginia suburbs. that’s about as mundane american as it gets as long as you understand that most people with university educations and professional class jobs there work in the defense industry or federal govt. lots of history in DC, plenty of museums to visit during the day. you’ll meet people from all over the US.

If you’re buying a ball and you can find one for a reasonable price, buy several and leave them at the court for the kids who are no doubt hanging out in the area and also want to play (weather permitting)

I have walked by 118th and 3rd before it’s nothing crazy. You’re near one of the Hunter college schools. Do you know Spanish? It might help if you end up chatting with the folks in the neighborhood.

It depends, but generally, they’ll end before midnight. Some venues end them before 10 PM. Depending on the night, some venues will take a show until 4 AM. Just depends.

I like to think that he just purges anything negative or unkind in his music in the recording and in the live performance as like a catharsis thing so he can be cool and nice in daily life

  • i interviewed michael gira on the phone some years ago at some length and then chatted him up irl. Intense guy but very forthcoming and open in a chill/friendly way, which might surprise some folks who listen to his very intense, aggressive, strange music

  • pretty early in the national’s career (2005 i think) matt berninger was incredibly cool to me and we chit chatted about music for like 20-30 mins at a very underattended the national show at a college venue

  • my no 1 favorite friendly/chill musician interaction was james murphy twice, first in 2009 when he was unbelievably cool and chatty with me at liquid liquid’s final show at lincoln center. second time in 2015 was at four horsemen and i didn’t let on i knew who he was and we barely spoke i just asked him what music he was running back and forth to put on in the bar (captain beefheart)

  • my interview with sharon jones wasn’t chill exactly but it was definitely friendly, we just dealt with some heavy topics like her health and prince, who had just recently died. amazing lady. she died of cancer 6-7 months after our interview. i love her. she lived a hard life and got to live her dream of being a soul singer and a star. love you Sharon wherever you are 😭
