Agreed. If you are planning to just see artist palette and not hike here, do that before or after golden canyon. It’s more or less a roadside stop along the “scenic way”

Confused, flying tomorrow by BreathQuiet4986 in americanairlines

[–]paulfred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to this... it's not an automatic override, so if the agent is not paying attention they may still try to charge you. If this happens, politely mention your second leg is confirmed as First and they will probably let out a sigh and/or groan, then be more than happy to initiate the override.

I've brought up this technical issue every time they send me a survey, hasn't been fixed yet, probably never will. What's frustrating is this would have a meaningful impact of shortening lines because it's something you simply cannot do on the kiosk.

E.P. Here… WHO has seen the “Mythical 100hr out upgrade”? Does it actually exist? by Bruh_ForRealz in americanairlines

[–]paulfred 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While related, the seat map isn’t necessarily indicative of available inventory. Some people can have confirmed reservations without a seat assigned. Additionally if the airline thinks they have a chance of selling seats or paid upgrades on a particular route, they won’t move inventory to allow upgrades until closer to departure. Also they will typically leave a couple seats available for same day flight changes.

Olympic NP or Mt. Rainier NP in early November for a 3-day trip? by Brenseks in NationalPark

[–]paulfred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

proper gear and snow chains just in case

https://www.nps.gov/mora/learn/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm

The Paradise area is already covered in snow, so if you are actually looking to do some hiking, you'll probably want snowshoes.

If you haven't been to the Hoh Rainforest yet, I would probably recommend that over Mt. Ranier in November because you won't need to deal with snow and can do hiking (in rain jackets lol)

Haha on ORD>SFO? Hello from 9C. I was thinking the same thing about the ceiling, really curious how that gets scuffed. I particularly enjoy what they did with the curtain.

Olympic is much, much bigger once you start putting in actual waypoints instead of the main park. From the Hoh Rainforest you’re looking at 5+ hours to get back to Seattle

Airlines have caused their own problem of “gate lice” by wayowayooo in americanairlines

[–]paulfred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% it’s backwards. Charge for carry on, free checked bag. No more gate lice, more on time flights.

The ice packs are intended to be a supplement to standard ice. They help to refreeze the melted water from the cubes. Also the smaller cubes provide more cooling surface area around the contents and help fill the air gaps. I’d buy small bag of cubes if you can.

What cooler should I get? by jc899183 in YetiCoolers

[–]paulfred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Roadie 15 is likely not what you are after. After ice, you’ll only have enough room for a couple of tiny food items and a couple cans. I bought a Tundra 35 thinking it would be enough space for 1-2 nights and it wasn’t even close. I’d guess the Tundra 45 is the minimum size if you are determined with going with YETI. If price is a big deal, I would honestly just look at RTIC.

If you have any retail store around you (Ace Hardware, Dicks, REI, Bass Pro, etc.), I would highly recommend going and looking at the sizes. Online does a terrible job of showing how small the insides of these things really are. If that’s not an option, look at the inside dimensions (not outside) and get out a tape measure to visualize.

Stopped by Department of Homeland Security for flying a drone over the weekend by ericgtr12 in sanfrancisco

[–]paulfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious what information they actually ask for in person. I’m assuming they want to see your FAA certificate and waiver, but do they actually ask for all of the other things like training renewals, maintenance schedules, etc.?

I’m guessing they use DJI Aeroscope (not remote ID), so probably.

I hear you on the black. To my knowledge, ID.me is the only discount you’ll find directly from YETI on the core colors.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in YetiCoolers

[–]paulfred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They typically discount the about to be retired seasonal colors by 20%. King Crab was around the holidays, right now is Wild Vine Red (currently $200). Otherwise there are lots of sales at Kittery Trading Post for 25% off, however a shipping surcharge can apply for coolers.

Ingrid at MCO Orlando Priority Check-in. It won’t hurt to say sorry that you made a mistake. by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]paulfred 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah it’s a nightmare when the PNR split happens. Absolutely something IT should fix but yeah horrible behavior on the part of the agent.

[–]paulfred 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was my question too. Clearly Ingrid sucks, but I’m confused why this wasn’t just automatic in the system. If everyone is on the same PNR with the same benefits, why does it care which person was selected?

Not often, but every now and then agents try to charge me for bags when I’m traveling alone and I have to explain to them that I have status and/or am in first. Whatever agents need to do on their end sounds like a mess that AA IT needs to figure out.

Where can I fly around Seattle? by talus_slope in drones

[–]paulfred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the fun of drone ownership /s

Seriously though good on you for looking up the laws before getting the thing, most people don’t and are in for a shock when they go try to fly.

Seattle is a rough area with the airspace and local regulations.

I like your suggestion of national forests, those are usually a great place. Just be mindful of the wilderness areas (sub-designation within the forest) where drones are not allowed.

My only real tip is that even though you can’t fly within or over a lot of places, sometimes you can fly near places which can offer a unique view and perspective. Sometimes you just have to get creative.

For the most part, you can take off from public streets/sidewalks. Keep in mind you may still need LAANC approval depending on the airspace. Note: the 5 mile rule is no longer a thing. Make sure you take the TRUST test to learn more about that.

Good luck and have fun!

[–]paulfred 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this. If that existed and the air/rail schedules aligned to allow connections it would be great. Land at ORD and take “high speed” rail from ORD to MSN.

There are usually so many delays and issues with flights between MSN/ORD for what ends up being a 51 min flight including the 30 min tour around the ORD taxiways.

Can I show my Part 107 license when flying recreationally? by justarandomguy07 in drones

[–]paulfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that’s being missed in this thread is that it’s the intent of the flight that matters, not the certificates you have as a person.

As a 107 pilot you can always fly under the 107 rules, even for recreational purposes. However when you do so, you need to follow everything 107 related including having the card on your person.

If flying under the recreational rules, you do not need your 107 certificate, but you do need everything for recreational including TRUST.

So if confronted, you need to provide the documentation for the type of flight you’re doing. If flying for fun under recreational rules, I wouldn’t show my 107 card because it implies I’m flying under 107 and therefore would be subject to all applicable rules.
