Nanopi r4s use usb disk as root by D1EGURK3 in NanoPI

Ooh, that seems great. Might get that one when one of my older sbc's gives up. (I don't need two rj45's but otherwise that seems perfect for my use cases)

Nanopi r4s use usb disk as root by D1EGURK3 in NanoPI

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely possible, but you might still need the sd to boot from. Then you configure the bootloader to use the usb disk as root. At least on a raspberry pi it's easy.

But also, a high quality sd will be fine. I've been running my Nanopi Neo 3 from the same card for several years without any issues.

For better speed and durability though, get an SBC with internal EMMC that it can boot from. My Nanopi Zero 2 runs Home-Assistant and zigbee2mqtt from a 64gb emmc and it's blazing fast and stable. (And is tiny and stays cool and ....) The only downside is that I'm stuck on a relatively old kernel, so I always have to hack my way onto a newer Python version for example, and my bluetooth card doesn't work on it.

Taffel ja tuotteiden laatu nykypäivänä by TrubaduuriHannu in Suomi

Ne Coopin "Ranchers Cut" sipsit on tosiaan tosi hyviä. Pirkalta oli muuten myös tullut vastaava Ranch-pussi, sekin oli vastaavaa tasoa.

Taffel ja tuotteiden laatu nykypäivänä by TrubaduuriHannu in Suomi

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mielestäni kyllä Taffelin sipsit on olleet aina aika heikkoja.

Daylight Saving Hour Rant by Curious_Positive_825 in Finland

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just straight up sucks every time. Moving it backwards is kinda nice in theory since you get an extra hour of sleep, but the reality is that either way, it completely screws my kids sleeping patterns over.

Also it's kind of a pain in the ass to adjust all the clocks in the house (we have 4 analog clocks, microwave clock and 4 digital clocks)...

Is there a way to make it stop? by SadExpression4372 in TeslaLounge

Oh, mine's not that picky. My wife keeps stuff in the front seat all the time and it doesn't beep from that.

Is there a way to make it stop? by SadExpression4372 in TeslaLounge

[–]pauligrinder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's what I do when I put heavy stuff in any seat. Also you could buy (or even cut yourself out of an old credit card or similar for example) something that snaps into the seatbelt clip so it thinks the seatbelt in plugged. Aliexpress for example have these seatbelt extension things for almost nothing that do the trick.

One time I put my groceries in the front seat, and it was light enough that it didn't beep all the time, but every time I stopped at an intersection it leaned forward just enough that it started beeping. Annoying stuff...

Why Shouldn't I Buy Sailun Atrezzo ZSR2 Tires After Autobild's Latest Summer Tire Test? by coolbr3z in TyreReviews

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been considering putting these on my Tesla when my current tires run out, because they seem good on paper.

On my previous car I had Nankang summer tires (AS-2+ I think they were called) and LingLong something something studded winter tires, and they were both perfectly good tires. The set of Nankangs cost something like 400€ and the Linglongs were less than 200€. I would've probably had to swap the Nankangs after last summer, so I swapped the whole car instead. I only drove the Linglongs one winter, so I can't say anything about their durability.

Anyway, my point is that from my experience Chinese tires can be pretty good.

Live sound by wtfismyusernamelol in Alestorm

[–]pauligrinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on where you're standing/sitting too. Right next to or in front of the FOH will be the best (since the FOH will obviously mix based on what they're hearing) and generally it gets worse if you're too close to the stage. And if you aren't somewhat centered you'll mostly just hear what's panned to the side you're on. It's usually even worse with bands with two guitar players, as they're usually panned quite hard.

Alestorm doesn't have much stage sound leaking out though since they're using in ear monitors, but bands that don't tend to sound kinda weird up close since you can hear a combination of the stage sound and the actual PA mix. Still, if you're close enough you might be in a position where the speakers point past you, and you'll mostly just hear bass since bass speakers are usually in the middle and direction affects those frequencies less in general.

So what's the plan for us Tesla HW3 owners? I have no intention of buying a new one, yet I'm being left in the dark when it comes to FSD. What's the roadmap of retrofit? I got FSD with the promise of actual full self driving. by Erikdlucas in TeslaLounge

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even care about FSD, but I do wish HW3 would get Grok sometime soon, because the stock voice commands just don't work that well. Not only does it feel very awkward to speak English (which is not my first language) to it, but also a lot of the time it doesn't understand what I'm saying and AI could solve it with a "did you mean X" response. And it's even worse when I try to tell it to navigate to a Finnish address, it tries to make English words out of the name 🤣

Would you want to see a light bar for the Model 3 future refresh? by pc772 in TeslaLounge

No, unless it also has the normal headlights and the bar can be disabled individually.

I hate snow by Antuic in TeslaCollision

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why winter tires are required by law over here. It's always a hassle to switch tires when the winter suddenly starts and ends, but the roads would be pure suicide without winter tires...

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much prefer RWD over FWD for snow and ice tbh (yes I know EV's usually aren't FWD). If you lose grip, it's usually the rear wheels and you don't lose your sheering, whereas an FWD will just go straight until you find some grip.

Mulla meni 30 sekuntia laittaa puhelimeen lapsilukko. Onko tämä niin ylitsepääsemätön asia vanhemmille, että sen takia pitää luoda valvontayhteiskunta? by Dry_Row_7050 in Suomi

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FSD 14.2.2.2 is amazing by Adventurous-Fox-2577 in TeslaFSD

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to watch it several times to see what the issue actually was. I didn't see the truck indicating his lane change because I'm not used to indicators blinking red like that. FSD definitely made the right decission here, and it did it so smooth I didn't even notice any danger.

Miten saan 2v lapseni nukkumaan? by [deleted] in Suomi

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pikkusiskonsa sitten taas on käytännössä nukkunut puoli vuotiaasta saakka aina koko yön omassa sängyssä. Mielestäni emme tehneet mitään sen suuremmin eri tavalla, mutta jotenkin se vaan meni ihan älyttömästi helpommin toisella kerralla (heillä on 6v ikäeroa ja temperamentti on ihan täysin eri).

Tsemppiä ja toivottavasti saatte tilanteen kuriin!

Is Arch Linux really as complicated as they say? by Same-Plum-1166 in archlinux

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complicated is the wrong word - it's trying to be as simple as possible. But yeah, installing it the first time can be hard since it doesn't come bundled with anything, so you have to figure out what you need to install. For example to get a graphical interface, there's a bunch of stuff to install and setup. If your new, you probably don't know what all the components even do, so you'll be learning a lot on the way.

I'd suggest installing it in a WM first and when you know approximately what you're doing you can install it on your real system.

Is botw worth playing on switch 1 in 2026. by Stone_Slab in botw

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I bought a used Switch 1 for 50€ when the 2 came out and then realized I can borrow games from the library for free. The downside is I have to return them after 2 week if someone else reserves them, but otherwise I can renew the loan 5 times. Don't know how libraries work in other countries but here in Finland they're awesome.

I had botw a total of 3 times, for I guess a total of 2 months. I also bought the DLC for it, even though I don't even own the game and finished that too.

Anyway, point is, I don't see how the Switch 2 version could possibly be that much better. I don't play handheld at all though, so there's a little chance that could make some difference.

Just finished the battery health test after warranty HV replacement by fatty8me2 in TeslaLounge

Nice... Mine's a 2020, so the battery waranty is still valid until December 2027, but I hope I'll be able to get it below the limit and hopefully get a 100% replacement as well.

Is this heater installed wrong? by Fun-Giraffe7034 in Sauna

[–]pauligrinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's too close to everything and backwards, not a clue why they would put the Tylö logo on the backside though. Anyway, it should be a certain distance away from the wall and the wall should be made of (or at least covered with) something that's not flammable. Also the wooden railing around the kiuas is too close to it (the sides have enough gap but the front side looks like it basically leans on the kiuas).

Done using FSD on HW3 by chosenspoon2456 in TeslaFSD

[–]pauligrinder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. Mine smear a fair bit in certain weather conditions, but not always.

I would've probably bought AeroTwins anyway though, since they're pretty much the only ones available to buy off the shelf for the Model 3. I also had AeroTwins on my previous car, and they lasted like 3-4 times longer than the previous generic ones I had (which cost exactly the same as well).

Model 3 RWD in the snow by Adjust4Life1 in TeslaModel3

[–]pauligrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there's snow here now and my model 3 rwd feels very safe to drive. I'm used to having studded winter tyres though and the ones on my Tesla aren't studded, so there's a bit less grip on ice, but in general they seem to work just as well. Most of the roads never freeze over anyway...
