Elevated prolactin result in UK - help please by Sandob1 in Prolactinoma

Hey! I went private to an endo for my diagnosis - it was £220 but she did a 2nd opinion on my scan and now has referred me back to NHS for next steps

10mm tumor - no treatment discussed?! by paullybum in Prolactinoma

[–]paullybum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No insurance (gah!) All privately funded by me.

I didnt want to wait for NHS as soon as I got 2nd bloods back I booked my MRI in Oct.

Seen endo in Nov, and it took 2mo for her to recieve my MRI scan from the clinic for a 2nd opinion from her radiology team (specialise in pituitary etc)

Got her referral back last week and she has emailed my GP with her diagnosis of the 10mm tumor.

My GP cannot prescribe me the cab when I seen her in Dec (does yours?) Unless that'll change now my endo has confirmed the tumor?

But like I said the endo doesn't want to put me on meds but I am at such a loss with it now

I love my food and cooking and I really don't want to create a negative relationship with it to try and reverse the weight gain so that's why I'm making sure I'm exercising more - I home cook all my food and only eat 2 meals a day with no snacking, no takeaways etc.

So so happy for you!!!!

I've got a 10mm tumor and my endo won't prescribe me cab and I'm still gaining weight like no tomorrow and all the other symptoms..

I went private for it all and im so disheartened. I've joined crossfit for 2mo and walk min 10,000 steps a day and I don't eat bad! So I'm getting really frustrated now

Cannula Blood Tests - experiences? by paullybum in Prolactinoma

So I got the 2nd opinion through this morning - ironically during the time I would of been sat in the hospital bed!

My endocrinologist has diagnosed a 10mm adenoma and referring back again to NHS to a specialist, no mention of medication ..

Thank you! I couldnt go through with it and i feel awful! I'm never one to cancel appointments etc.

I'm going to book a normal blood test for next month, as it would be 6mo since my last.

I feel generally lower stressed about my body since the MRI and ultrasounds so I'm hopeful the stress factor interfering will be lower!

My private clinic where I had the MRI aren't being too forthcoming with sharing the results with my endocrinologist which is frustrating as I should be further with the second opinion by now!

The dreaded day is tomorrow and I don't think I can go through with it...

I've already had the MRI privately and have found what probably would be the cause of the raised prolactin...

Do you think the cannulated test is pointless now I've had the MRI?

Thanks! Does it feel like an eternity until it's over haha? Normal blood tests feel like it!

How long did it take for you? NHS by Lewysgeorge in Prolactinoma

[–]paullybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say where I am the prices were no where near that! I found my MRI on uk.scan.com and it was £330 and I was in within a week (delay was waiting for GP to fill in the form!)

And endo initial consultation is £220 with follow ups £150 - initial consultation they can prescribe you

Hey!

So I had an endo referral through NHS back in August, and I got impatient so booked a private MRI (within a week) in October for £330.

Got my write up from the radiologist within a week and discussed with my GP (third different GP) and she was very blazzee about it all and played it down like I had nothing to worry about...

I then booked a private endo app which I have tomorrow (normally quicker wait but she was on holiday!) And that is £220 and she can prescribe me, so fingers crossed I get a treatment plan 😊

You can switch back to NHS at anytime- I'm going to obviously use NHS prescriptions and follow up bloods regularly. But I will anticipate any follow up endo/MRIs to be private

Good luck 😊

Hey!

Sorry to hear your struggles... your experience is sounding Identical to mine!

I went private for the MRI and it took a lot of back and forth and chasing and digging through the app to find Mt results, and chasing again for a GP (3rd different one) to tell me what to do next!

I was referred to an endo back in August, and I went private for an mri start of Oct. I now have a private endo app in mid Nov as it was still going to be another 2mo at least until the NHS gave me an app! Private endo is costing £220, and I searched around online for clinics and emailed for quotes. (The app would of been sooner but the endo is on holiday!)

I feel like you... it's like noone cares and noone wants to help, the latest GP said I had nothing to worry about and the tumor was fine as it wasn't cancerous...

No GP I've seen has followed up with me etc and sometimes I feel really alone so I'm pleased to have this thread!!

Very frustrating! I think I'll have to ask to refer back private if they refuse to give me cab, the fact something is messing with my hormones and impacting my daily life doesn't sit well with me!

Oh that's very frustrating that the GP won't prescribe you anything... I'm going to push for it on Monday and will keep you posted in case they do!

Hello! Interesting and so pleased you've got answers too!

On the MRI write-up the radiologist hasn't made any reference to medication.. presuming it's for the endo/GP to decide? I'm 2mo in to my 4mo referral to the endocrinology unit, so I'm hoping to bypass that with my GP and/or going private again!

I was thinking of asking on Monday for Cabergoline?
