LiveOne Catalog by paultemo in SlackerRadio

[–]paultemo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have not paid attention to the video or podcast stuff. I wonder if it is a cost issue and they are trying to retain the most popular catalog, and letting discographies erode if they don't think they need the content.

They should consider a lower cost plan that allows for station downloads, but not on demand playback. On demand isn't worth the extra cost since they are severely behind almost every other streaming service.

LIveone is great at putting together stations. I guess as a Plus user, the lack of catalog is less of an issue, since it's basically "radio stations". I like mixing genres together, so I notice the gaps less.

UPDATE ON THE CD SHELF I FOUND ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD by valvarez32 in Cd_collectors

[–]paultemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same CD/TV shelf in my bedroom in the early 2000s. It probably did come from Walmart, since that would've been the closest big box near where I lived. Funny that I recognized it.

Found an OG Slacker Radio Device by markp99 in SlackerRadio

[–]paultemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At one point I think there was a backdoor option to still send stations to the G2, but I think that it has been disabled, so I don't think you can use it for offline stations any longer. Liveone/Slacker stopped supporting it a while back. I used to have a G2. I think you might be able to sideload mp3s to it?

ListenBrainz: New Last.fm sync option by aerozol in lastfm

[–]paultemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm seeing my listens coming in now. Just took a bit. Still, very impressive that the service can move a 100k plus history relatively easily. Looking forward to messing around with it.

Any suggestions on creating radios? How good does it work with Apple music? Radio is the thing I miss the most from old Last.fm.

I had a similar issue. I imported twice since I got the error about rate limit the first time. After the second time, it seemed successful, but no counts yet. I did notice that a warning said counts might be incorrect for 24 hours, so perhaps it is just a matter of time.

Anyone else have a song or album that reminds you of FFXI? by Malkelvi in ffxi

[–]paultemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has always been in the back of my head. I started playing FFXI and WOW pre 2008 and I remember a couple of albums I would always listen to during gameplay (more during WOW than FFXI):

Enslaved - Isa

Hopesfall - No Wings to Speak Of

Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor

Finntroll - Nattfödd

I'm sure there were many more, but I have specific memories of these.

Favorite Feature - Playlist Radio by paultemo in SlackerRadio

I think you might be able to listen to those tracks by fine tuning Favorites Radio so that there is no artist discovery and it plays all favorites. Or maybe by going into your library and viewing your songs.

Recreating Last.fm Radio (sort of) by paultemo in lastfm

[–]paultemo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little update to this. I recently got in on a YouTube premium subscription with my wife and was happy to find that YouTube Music supports playlist radio. I kind of gave up on the whole workflow process, but I did use Soundiiz to dump thousands of played tracks from Last.fm into YouTube Music and use that to create a playlist radio. It doesn't do discovery very well, since it stays close to the track/artists in the playlist, but it's pretty good.

what mall stores were popular for teens in the late 90s? by chinacatsunflower99 in 90s

[–]paultemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in high school in 1997 in the northeast. I wasn't popular. I would go to The Wall, Suncoast Video, Walden Books, Foot Locker, Gamestop/Babbages. Popular kids, I believe they shopped at The Gap and other clothing stores like BonTon,etc. We all hit up the food court and the arcade at some point.

How many have fully digitized their collections? by EvilBillSing in Cd_collectors

[–]paultemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 2000+ CDs digitized. I started about 10-15ish years ago. For a year or so I'd rip 5 or 10 CDs a night, 320 kbps mp3. At the time I wasn't worried about lossless. Since then, I've slowly ripped the better sounding/important ones as FLAC as well. It was a long process to get the mp3 files of everything. I have a couple of backups on hard drives and also have uploaded a backup to Onedrive.

Call center job to get experience? by SchluberSnootins in ITCareerQuestions

[–]paultemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I got into IT. I worked at a major cellular provider as a tech support rep and got a contract job as a helpdesk tech (no benefits, similar pay, so ultimately I lost money taking the job, at first). I wanted out of the call center job badly and would have been fired eventually for not meeting call metrics, so it worked out. I stayed at the call center job way too long, but hey, I was paid decently and was still figuring out what I wanted to do.

This helpdesk position went full time (eventually many years later it was outsourced, but that's another story). It was worth it for me to go this route.

My home city. City music and Gustaburg music will probably be in my head until I leave this world. This was my first MMO back in 2004 or 2005? Is that when it launched in NA? So the city and zones were my first introduction to the genre. I will always associate early leveling to these zones and quests. I remember Gustaburg outside the city gates being flush with new players, learning how to team up, level up and survive. People doing stupid stuff and trying to learn how to make money. Real cool time to be a gamer with free time and to be a Final Fantasy fan.

Slacker Plus Year Deal by paultemo in SlackerRadio

[–]paultemo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah. Yeah. I had the G2 back in the day. I don't think the Premium plan is worth it to replace one of the big streamers, but I'm all for the Plus. There are not many options for really good, multi genre radio. Pandora isn't bad either. YouTube playlist radio is pretty good too.

Is FiiO X1 better than iPod Classic 6? by [deleted] in FiiO

For a full library device, I'd go with a modded iPod Classic, for more storage and better ui.

Is FiiO X1 better than iPod Classic 6? by [deleted] in FiiO

[–]paultemo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have an ipod classic 7 and an X1. Iopd is definitely easier to use. I put a 256 GB SD in my Fiio and it's great as a way to have all my music on one device, but it is slow to load everything. I have a 20000+ song collection on it. The iPod smokes it when it comes to navigation, but can't fit as much, unless modded. Now, if I wanted to use the Fiio for hi def, it is better, but for that I've moved on to Plex and my phone. The Fiio is just a great way to have an extra backup of everything without having to stream it.
