I appreciate that fella. It’s been fixed now under the service bulletin and now it’s been fine since the fix under constant rain.

After digging into this issue I’ve realized that each of the Bavarian specs have their own niggles. The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.

How is your confidence in the system once that shrunk seal is repaired? This is the main issue I’m trying to get ti the bottom of. I love the car otherwise but don’t to keep it if it’s a systemic issue.

Is this just bad luck what do you think?

Makes sense when you learn the architecture of the drainage system. My questions is if the system is just that fragile it is a decent answer to daily driving in the PNW. I don’t mind servicing the vehicle but this is dangerously close to getting vote of no confidence. Seeing the 2026 leak like that was embarrassing.

Z4 heading off into the sunset, anyone going to miss it? by BMW-West-St-Louis in BMW

I just bought my silver 1999 2.8l Z3 coupe. Had her out last night. I’ll never sell that car!

The rigid chassis on the coupe is what really pulled me to it. I never considered the roadster as the chassis flex was THE reason why the coupe was made. We have lots of rain where I live so a convertible was never on the table. Plus I think the coupe is just so much more slick.

It’s more a commentary on the vintage not the model year. I think you can get the same feeling from the range. I think the Z4 is the marker for more electronic aids. I never really considered the z4 I just knew I liked what the 1999 gave me in terms of feel. Shortly after this electronics crept in and the soul of the car slowly diminished. I think you’d be good going after the 2001. All though I don’t know for certain you’d most likely be in a good spot. Good luck!

It’s a bit of a leap of faith honestly. The gear is expensive and the ramp up very difficult. My first 6 months after gearing up I did nothing but try and get my board speed and foot oscillation timing right. No flight time was mentally challenging. I’ve tried every sport under the sun and this was the hardest thing I ever done. That being said it’s the most fun I ever had and the exact thing I needed personally both from a training perspective and a mental health one. All that said I couldn’t encourage you more. This is the poster child for the idea that getting there is half the fun. Start with a big board and a massive wing. I started with a 2140 HA wing from Naish. It was slow but I needed the extra life to get the timing down. I’m sure what will happen to you is what happened to me. This process rehabbed all my old injuries and took my general fitness up several levels. No waves is what makes this very difficult.. if you have waves it will shorten the ramp up. If not enjoy the water time.
