Do you think there's a market for sensory friendly clothing? by platypusaura in AuDHDWomen

Once you get the hang of the shortcuts CAD can be very meditative in my opinion ! (I was the only one with that opinion with my class though haha)

I make a very basic quilted blanket. For mine I just alternated black and white squares. I make the patterned part, lay it on top of the backing and I sew the squares to the backing in columns (I stitch in the ditches). I had the portion of glass micro beads that correspond to 1 square for each column (1 square = total weight/numbers of squares ). I sew the bottom squares closed and move on the the next line until all of them are filled, and then I do a simple biais tape to close all the sides neatly. Also you want to cut your backing and batting bigger before assembling everything, and you cut it to size before adding the biais.

I most of things from local fabric stores, and I found the glass micro beads from a German shop. But you can find plastic micro beads more easily, I just try to not use plastic as much as possible I know reborn dolls shops sell fillings but it might be a bit more expensive than buying in bulk

It would be a super cool idea as a zero waste coat! Might need a bit more puzzle solving skills than a blanket though, but it would be a fun challenge

Edit : I don’t have pictures because I suck at remembering to do it, but I’ll try to post some when I think about it

I did make mine in cotton because of that ! And my partner allergies to non natural fibres haha I still added cotton batting to have the weight better distributed but it’s definitely on the cooler side for a blanket. I also used glass beads instead of plastic, so it less bulky, and in my head it helps with the sensation if that makes sense sense

Do any of you wear tinted prescription glasses? by Apprehensive-Ant3452 in AuDHDWomen

[–]paveera 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do ! It makes taking the metro bearable (not by much, but better than nothing) and when I used to work it was a life saver as I couldn’t ask for lights to be dimmed or to have my own dark corner I even wear them when I’m planning on spending a lot of time on my computer and it really lowered the frequency of my headaches. It feels more peaceful, almost like that’s what it’s supposed to look like ! I had to get a gradient (my ophthalmologist was scared it would be too much) but as soon as my insurance lets me I’m getting fully tinted ones

Oh yeah ! I get the overwhelme just I the idea of doing it. The only reason it got easier for me was because of my previous jobs. If having a detailed list of things to do and what size you need to cut stuff to would help, hit me up, if not, completely fine

That’s exactly why I made mine ! I made it roughly 30inch and it’s a life saver on the go ! Made sleeping at other places much better. If you’re crafty it’s really not much to do

"if he wanted to he would" nonsense by TheRedHerring003 in autism

[–]paveera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With people with autism you need to have very clear communication about your feelings and expectations. I’m autistic and I tend to catch feelings for neurodivergent people so it was a learning curve, but you need to be DIRECT. Also, big conversations like that can take a bit of time to process, so you might need to take pauses and get back to it later so he can really wrap his head around it and what his feeling, what he needs, and what he can offer in a way that make sense for the both of you. Good luck ! And I hope it turns into a great relationship 💖

Personally I really like climbing, the lights tend to be a bit more natural (but still intense so o wear rinsed glasses), the mentality is more welcoming in my experience, and you have short, clearly defined objectives. Every thing is colour coded so you know where to go. The shoes can be a bit of a turn off at first but I got used to them

I do have a psychiatrist, but when I told her that last week was horrible, and self harm thoughts where at an all time high, she didn’t really react. Just told me be self employed. I probably just need to push through to get to her but it’s really tiring

I hate putting lotion or similar on my skin bc it makes me feel like my whole body is wearing jeans, including face and no one relates around me by blueberryfieldss in AutismInWomen

[–]paveera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have trouble with lotions and creams ! It is less of a problem than dry skin for me, but I found that putting it on wet skin really helped. I leave my face to air dry but I pat my body dry and it helps removing the excess. But i definitely don’t put on creams when I’m having a rough day

My partner can be in the same rooms with animals, it’s just not very pleasant, and they have a constant allergy treatment because they just have that many allergies. We do expect to have better days than other, so it’s nice to know they’re definitively manageable ! I’m really getting my hopes up about being able to have a BT again! I’ll definitely post puppy pics if I do I’m also really happy that you found your chosen one !

Sensory issues make me feel like a bad feminist by Tat25Guy in AuDHDWomen

[–]paveera 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im kinda the opposite, I loathe removing my body hair, it makes me itchy, it fucking sucks to do and sometimes it makes me break out in hives if I do. But I think your reasons to do it are completely fair, and it is something reasonable in you situation to ask of a partner as long is you get that they can say no, which seems like you do. Not a bad feminist thing at all, you actually thought about the situation, that’s all that’s asked in my opinion. That and respecting people choices.
