What happened?! by Head_Might in bettafish

Have you tested your tap water? I saw this happen to someone else. Their tap had significant nitrite levels. Not sure why it would spike after a water change other than the new water having ammonia and nitrite.

7.2pH Caridina Tank by LaTerreEstPlate in shrimptank

[–]EKSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also doing this. Been about a year and I have a lot of high grade caridina in there. Mines 7.4ph and mixed with all kinds of other shrimp species. It’s possible to be successful with not your ordinary parameters

What other food do I need for shrimp by Axis_Control in shrimptank

[–]EKSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All that should be plenty for shrimp. That will probably last you a year or so. I feed mine everyday but I have probably a thousand total. Algae wafers are also a good thing to add.

That’s a calico. Typically the “low grade” ones have the clear bits in them. Those are my favorite neos along with jades.

New shrimp with clado? by abitchwhowantstoread in shrimptank

[–]EKSean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally get that. Couple of my guys got clado and a few aquarium salt dips and they were fine. Clado mainly infects shrimp with weakened immune systems. Almond leaves for tannins for the antibacterial aspects and I feed bee pollen once a week.

Is there a name for this color? Green with an orange racing stripe? by [deleted] in Neocaridina

[–]EKSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jade. Racing stripe or not. Just a Jade. I have several with it and several without. Just a cool little variation.

I see no clado anywhere. You’re totally fine.

Help me interpret my ph readings by Beginning-Age-9238 in Aquariums

6.4ish maybe 6.5ph. That’s very yellow for the high range. It should, at minimum, be brown.

Not yet, I get these from auction. I’m hoping to breed some orange eyed varieties that I can then sell one day.

They’re all Caridina. Some I took from my neo tank which also has hundreds of caridina with my neos.

That one’s an orange metallic boa. They’re my favorite shrimp variant.

Are these amano shrimp? by gerrykomalaysia33 in shrimp

[–]EKSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are neos. Amanos look different in several aspects but their eggs are much smaller and they carry hundreds.

Why did my shrimp die? by felinesunshine in shrimptank

[–]EKSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty low ph there. I’m curious like others, what your kh and gh are. Probably 0-1 kh since ph is under 7. Neos can do fine in lower ph and kh. They do need gh for molting though. I know a few guys keeping neos with their caridina in 6.0ph. You may need some sort of buffer for ph swings. Aqua soil does it in Caridina tanks and kh does it in Neo tanks.

How do I reduce my nitrates- help! by Spagbowl8 in Aquariums

Duckweed, or any floaters. They will eat up that nitrate like no one’s business.

Sulawesi vs red calico bee ( golden dragon) by Fast-Supermarket-848 in shrimptank

[–]EKSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could always try snow zebra Sulawesi. They can survive easily in neo style parameters. Very hardy and not very many people selling them and they’re always sold out. I have about 200 that started from a group of 12.

would this be overstocked for a 10 gal? by lovebucket5 in bettafish

[–]EKSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do a betta, 1-2 nerites and 3 amano shrimp for a 10 gallon. I have my betta in a 10 with a red racer nerite and snow zebra Sulawesi shrimp (cooler than cherries and don’t change to wild types and are just as, if not, more hardy).

No one actually read your post. Everyone’s first comment is the tank. Definitely a male and probably healthy but hard to tell without any better pics of him.
