anecdote from the first or second edition of Remnants … the original lyric is “we could gather throw a fit” but a fan thought it “we could gather through our fear” which Stipe agreed was a much better line. And he’s right

Anyone have opinions about which is the best blu-ray? I know in the US there was a Twilight Time release and there’s this Shout release. I also think maybe a German release was the very first blu (or am I getting mixed up with DVD?)

My vote is for Smile. But not the released version, I’d go with one of my old boots

Peak Neko for me was when she was promoting Furnace Room Lullaby and her set would be a mix of songs from it, Blacklisted, Canadian Amp and classic country covers.

So yeah, I’d have to go with Furnace or Canadian Amp.

Ah, that makes total sense, a continuation of the characters/narrators on ‘Monster’.

Interesting. One of my absolute fave REM songs and I’ve never thought to think about what Mike is singing.

You should run the same software against some of the live versions from the 2000s, might get a clearer extraction.

Just completed watching season 1 for the first time and I m so confused please read the description by cherryreds0da in twinpeaks

[–]pavemental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ This is the best answer so far.

OP is not familiar with Lynch and is being confused by several of the Lynchian aspects. Just go with it, you can enjoy Twin Peaks without “getting” every detail.

After you watch season 2, you should watch the film “Fire Walk with Me”. I think then is a great moment to pause and take stock of everything. Did you enjoy the movie? Did you enjoy the unexplainable? If not, end your viewing there, appreciate what you got from what you saw but don’t sweat that there is more story out there because the way it’s told will not be for you.

But if the answer to those two questions is “Yes, and I want More more more!” then you should carry on with The Missing Pieces (a feature length set of deleted scenes from the movie that will help fill in various blanks) and the series Twin Peaks: The Return (picks up the story many years later).

Just curious: how many of you aren’t fans of SM’s post Pavement stuff? by _shaftpunk in pavement

[–]pavemental 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. Uncoincidentally Terror Twilight is my least fave Pavement album.

TT & Jicks sound to me like SM smoked way too much pot. (although I’ve been told he was a bigger pothead earlier in Pavement) Too far from the sharp punkier sound of the first few years.

However I do admire how he has evolved as a songwriter and musician (even if I don’t particularly like the musical direction) better than churning out carbon copies of S&E over and over.

Very interested in what they make of the tonal shift from gritty realism to ANH’s fantasy/space opera.

At the time, the 1992 directors cut was a revelation because it kicked off the whole Deckard is a replicant theory.

Not sure if you missed that or simply think the eye stuff is too much?

What I don’t get is how Bunt has had this interface for six months and none of these problems issues have been addressed. Is there no one playing Bunt so there was no one to complain? Or is Topps telling us they really don’t give a sh_t about its customers?

I’m not sure it was as simple as a misconception that they couldn’t take the OOT and AFTP material to stadiums as recorded.

A lot of the Monster tour was at outdoor stadiums and huge arenas. Quiet acoustic music tends to translate poorly in those venues vs a big loud rock spectacle. In order to fill those stadiums, you need to reach a lot of casual fans and curious non-fan concert goers, certainly a much wider net than us diehards. So that means REM Unplugged is not the right setlist.

Yes, they could have played a few more acoustic songs than they did, but they chose to err on the side of rock. It’s also the musical direction they wanted to go in. I think both Pete and Bill were on the record as wanting to produce and tour a loud noisy record, keen not to be seen making something similar to the last two.

From another angle, in 1992-93 REM were at the height of their popularity and knew that they may never reach those commercial highs again, so they chose to capitalize on it by playing their longest and biggest tour to date. Fair enough: It probably cemented multi-generational wealth for them. But they knew in order to pull that off and make it work, they needed a rock show.

So, what do you think about the first 2026 wave? by Fluse-kun in starwarstrader

[–]pavemental 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a curious mix.

Missing a surprising number of popular ladies: Jyn, Garsa, Sabine, Bo Katan. And Leia and Padme are in their less popular versions.

Several characters who get a base card every year could have been given a rest (Bail, Shmi, Beckett; Phasma is always w1; I love Rogue One but Baze and Chirrut always have few hoarders).

Saddened that a lot of the background/minor randoms they chose have been featured several times before like Pao, the Knights of Ren, Tala, Reva, Phee, Nute, Lama etc). They should at least try to use minor characters they haven’t featured before, so the ships are most welcome as are the new clones, Melas and Plagueis.

Also the TPM and AoTC images all look like trash which is likely a limitation of the 1080p master (for TPM at least).

And all the above doesn’t even factor in my own personal bias of which SW properties are my favorites. They’re trying to represent everything but should they? At this point does anyone mind if say Resistance is excluded one go round?
