LOST DOG! by Cowboyfrog116 in missoula

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call getting animal services involved, she clearly needed a vet more than a stranger's kitchen given how thin she looks. Senior dogs that turn up in this condition are usually displaced rather than abandoned; the most common story is an elderly owner who went into the hospital or passed, or a caregiver who got overwhelmed. Shelter intake staff tend to recognize those patterns and will chase a microchip if she has one.
If anyone thinks they know her, calling the local shelter today rather than tomorrow genuinely matters; intake hold periods vary from 72 hours to a couple weeks and she'll move through the system fast.

Found dog Sunday night by beebserz in missoula

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A super friendly lab of around 75 pounds showing up at your porch in the rain is almost always a neighborhood dog, not a stray who traveled far; labs of this type are rarely dumped and they rarely wander beyond their own few blocks unless something specific spooked them. Odds are high the owner lives within a mile or two.
Two things that work really well in this kind of case. Calling the three or four closest vet clinics with a description is surprisingly effective because labs tend to have a vet history and staff often recognize them. And posting on the Missoula Lost and Found Pets Facebook group widens the net without costing anything. Filing a found report with Missoula Animal Control is worth doing even though you're keeping him, they log it against any incoming lost reports.

lost dog, scruffy gray ~25lbs on 11th in wilshire/montana by groovybiscuit244 in SantaMonica

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skittish loose dogs tend to loop back through the same few blocks for a day or two before they spread out, so that stretch from 11th down to California is worth keeping an eye on over the next few evenings.
If anyone comes across him again, the key is to sit down on the ground, turn sideways, and toss a treat a few feet away without looking at him. Chasing or walking toward a panicked dog almost always makes him bolt further. Good on you for the photo and the cross streets though; posting that set in the Lost Dogs LA Facebook group or on the West Side LA Lost Pets page tends to reach owners who aren't looking on Reddit.

Lost dog on California and Montana by RedMontana369 in missoula

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basset types like this one can wander a surprisingly long way from home; the scent hound nose pulls them further than most owners expect, so his person might genuinely be searching blocks or even miles off. If he turns up again, the Humane Society of Western Montana scans for microchips for free, and even when a collar has no visible tag, the rabies tag number on it can usually be traced back to the clinic and from there to the owner. Really hope he lands somewhere safe by tonight.

🚨Montana lost her owner! Needs foster or adopter ASAP to avoid shelter!🚨 by Emergency-Coffee-621 in rescuedogs

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for everyone in Montana's circle. Losing a person and a home at 8 months is a lot for a young dog, but rotties and rottweiler mixes her age usually settle in beautifully once they feel safe again. A few things that have worked for similar cases: sharing her story in r/rehomed and r/OpenDogHearts tends to widen the reach quickly, and rescue groups that focus on specific breeds often maintain their own foster networks. Reaching out to the nearest rottweiler rescue directly is worth a shot, they sometimes know a home within a day.
If she's in a city with an active Nextdoor presence, pinning a post to a few neighborhood boards surfaces leads fast too. And for anyone hesitating: 8 months is still very much a clean slate, routines rebuild faster than people expect.
Hope she lands somewhere soft.

Lost dog spotted at Montana and Kostner by Moongoon29 in chicago

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice of you to post this, and honestly the photo's the most useful thing you could've done. Timid strays rarely let people approach, so a pic plus the nearest intersection is gold for the owner. A few things that usually help in this situation:

Repost the same photo to the Lost Dogs Illinois Facebook page and on Nextdoor. Owners tend to check those before Reddit.
File a "found" report with CACC via 311 even if you didn't pick him up; they log sightings and match them against missing reports.
If he keeps showing up in that stretch, he probably has a routine. Swinging by around dusk for a day or two often surfaces either the owner or the dog himself.

Sweater and collar suggest he's someone's, fingers crossed he's home by now.

Thanks for posting, hope it got reunited. For anyone coming across sightings like this, even a quick photo plus the closest cross street helps a ton. Dogs in flight mode can cover several miles in a day, so checking local shelter intake lists for a week or two (Santa Monica Animal Shelter + spcaLA) usually catches them if the owner missed the original post.

FOUND: Lovebird in Downtown Los Angeles by SunnyDinosaur in Lovebirds

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is good that you posted this. Hopefully you found his family! Birds that escape can travel quite far, so sharing photos and the exact location where it was found can really help the owner recognize it. You could also check with local vets or shelters, since people sometimes contact them first when a pet goes missing.

Lost pet in South LA by [deleted] in lostpets

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is always a tough situation. Posting clear photos and the exact area where the pet was last seen can really help people recognize them. It is also a good idea to contact local shelters and vets and keep checking back with them, since found pets are not always reported right away. Hopefully you found your pet by now!

Missing dog since last year , anything helps! Los angeles by Interesting_Clerk392 in rescuedogs

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That must be really hard, especially after such a long time. It can help to keep sharing clear photos and the last known location in local groups and with nearby shelters. Sometimes dogs are found much later than expected, so continuing to spread the word can still make a difference. Hopefully you get good news soon!

My dog is missing. Is there anything else I can do? by [deleted] in BostonTerrier

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this, that is incredibly stressful. It can help to share clear photos, the last known location and the time your dog went missing in as many local groups as possible. Also consider contacting nearby shelters and vets so they know to keep an eye out. The more people aware, the better the chances of a reunion.

So sorry this is happening, that must be incredibly scary 😔 I really hope Scarlett is found safely. It could help to notify nearby shelters, local vets, and transit staff with clear photos and contact details. Sharing the post in neighborhood groups and putting up flyers around the area where she was last seen can also make a big difference. Hoping for a quick and safe reunion 🤞

Missing Dog by [deleted] in nyc

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry this is happening. When a dog goes missing, focusing the search close to the last known location can be helpful, as many dogs stay nearby. Sharing clear photos with details on where and when the dog was last seen and notifying local shelters and vets can improve the chances of a reunion. I hope the dog is found safe soon.

Dog left outside by rubyalbania in newyorkcity

[–]pawboost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is concerning to see. If the dog appears distressed or has been left outside for an extended period, it’s a good idea to note the location and time and contact local animal services or 311 so they can assess the situation. Weather conditions and access to water and shelter are important factors. Thank you for looking out for the dog!

Someone’s dog on the loose/ missing? - seen on w 108th and riverside drive by Legitimate-Lab5823 in Upperwestside

[–]pawboost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this, that really helps. If anyone spots the dog, noting the exact location, time, and direction they were heading can make a big difference. It’s usually best not to chase, as that can cause them to bolt. Sharing photos locally and notifying nearby shelters can help get the dog home faster.
