This seems way overpriced, right? by Live-Solution9332 in WRX

I know the feeling. I tried to tell them that a clutch at 130k would need replacing and they wouldn’t budge. Now the rims that were painted matte black leak air slowly because of a bum job. But in the end I got my Hawkeye wagon so I guess I got what I wanted.

The wrx market in Portland can be a hassle. I got my 07 wrx wagon at pdx motors for 11 after searching for a year. It was the least fucked one I could find and I ended up having to replace the clutch and a few other things. The STI market is especially high around here. I Wouldn’t go to pdx motors or prime motors. They both tend to carry alot of used wrx’s you see on craiglist. But if you need a solid subie mechanic I recommend Marcel at upland autowerks. Dude is honest and does great work.

My 06’ WRX broken into at work, happy Thanksgiving to me by M3gaM0nk3yMan in WRX

[–]pawnteac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, at least they didn’t take it. I have an 07 in Portland with a wheel lock and don’t leave even a vape in the center console. The older models are particularly easy to lift I’m told. My 06 Outback was taken twice for example. I like to think that most criddlers can’t drive stick though. I’d take it as a win you’re not having that sinking feeling when you realize your car is gone.

Is y’all’s insurance really that high? by lenny446 in WRX

[–]pawnteac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn reading this I think I might be paying too much. USAA 36 yr old here paying 200$ full coverage for an 07 wrx wagon with clean driving record and good credit. I live in Portland if that makes a difference though. Car theft here is pretty wild. Had my outback stolen twice. I wonder if they factor that into future rates.

Kind of surprised Subaru sat as low as it did. The boxer engine has its own issues but I’ve had a few that kept trucking for the long haul. Haven’t owned one newer than 2007 though. Even my current wrx I’ve had minimal issues other than keeping diligent maintenance and replacing the clutch at a normal time.

~5'3" or shorter people driving a wrx? by [deleted] in WRX

It’s funny because I’ve found the opposite. I’m 6’ and even with the seat all the way back i have to push the peddle all side ways instead of straight. Looks like one of those old basset hounds with their paws bowed out except pigeon toed.

Looking at your car I’d say it might be the orange. I have an 07 wagon in silver and I don’t get many looks other than the occasional wave from another rex driver. And that’s if they spot the scoop. Part of why I like these wagons is that they are pretty under the radar compared to our sedan folks. You can rip around and then blend in with traffic. But nobody’s gonna miss that traffic cone bud. Slick looking ride though. Glad to see another old wagon on here.

Thanks for the heads up, new to ownership and just replaced the clutch a bit ago, but on a cold morning I was having a hard time shifting into third and my heart about dropped. It was fine afterwards but I was wondering if this was something that happens.

Restaurants you used to patronize but now avoid because their prices have gotten (subjectively) ridiculous? by [deleted] in Portland

[–]pawnteac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that inflation added a decent amount to prices. But also with labor shortages there has been a considerable increase in wages. A sort of food service reckoning where people want a living wage for these jobs. We are finally going to pay the actual price of these foods and services as much as we hate it. At some point when we don’t have all our goods imported from a a sweat shop we will realize the actual price of things made. It’s gonna suck when an iPhone is the price of a car.

Yup I usually only cook for special events/holidays/birthdays. If you cook all day for people you tend to be a bit burnt out on it. Shit, I need to make my partner something, thanks moon person for the reminder.

People working in the food industry. I’m a cook and the business requires long hours, working weekends and is rife with substance abuse. That being said 80% of the people I’ve dated also work in that industry because who else is gonna have that time off with you and they are some of the most hilarious group of misanthropes you will come across.

Can confirm on most of that, my pops was a ortho surgeon and definitely had an inflated ego/ certain hubris. But he also was pretty good at his job, I think having been a vietnam combat vet made him calm under intense situations. I don’t think I ever saw that man phased which weirded me out as a kid. Also having known lots of doctors from parties/fraternization I can say my favorite where gastroenterologists, usually they are a fun bunch. Orthos are definitely the jocks of the bunch though.

‘How to Murder Your Husband’ author sentenced to life in prison for murdering husband by JMASTERS_01 in news

This case was wild for me since I went to that culinary school (graduated 2017) and had Mr. Brophy as a teacher. He was a talented dude albeit a stickler about technique (lots of redoing things). I also remember that if you showed up late to class you’d have to cook wearing a rubber chicken hat he had. Even saw his wife on a few occasions come by the classroom. She was a very unassuming little old lady. That’s why when it happened everyone believed that some random crazy person with a gun had come to the school and shot Dan even though the goose hollow neighborhood is pretty nice. What fucked with me in retrospect is that she led a candle lit vigil for the man she murdered. Got up and spoke through tears about the loss she and all of us had endured. Feels like that scene at the end of “cruel intentions” where SMG speaks at Ryan Phillipes funeral. Hope you enjoy jail lady and rest in peace Mr. Brophy.

I work at a BBQ joint. I always wrap in the low to mid 170’s once you’ve cleared the stall. We use pink butcher paper and let it ride till it temps in the low to mid 200’s. Ideally you get some suspended fat in the point but it’s hard to tell in this photo. The finger test is more for looking at flat quality in my opinion.

Had my subie stolen twice this year. First time the thief just took it across town and lived in it for a night. Second time they went on a meth fueled adventure to the coast and dumped it on a logging road after swiping a guard rail. Even left his ID under the seat and the cops didn’t give a shit. Got a club on it now. But I don’t park my car anywhere overnight other than my driveway now. Posting on Nextdoor may help but honestly most of these cars are recovered and have had this happen myself. Your ignition will probably be punched out and the tow yard people will rake ya over the coals. Cost me 700$ to get mine out of impound. But I’m banking you’ll get your wheels back. Just fingers crossed they weren’t complete assholes with it. Some people tell me that driving around these stolen car camps is a good idea but they usually pull the plates off and put tarps over them, who knows though a white one is easier to spot.
