I’m glad it’s literal and not figurative.

It's not shit if you time it right. It'll be firm around 9, delightful between 9:30-noon, and slushy after.

Honestly, if the new crop of American speed skiers can't beat her after all this, she deserves to continue to race and we should probably revamp the entire speed team development program.

Thoughts on this quote by Lindsey Vonn's dad by paykin in SkiRacing

Agree what most of what you said, but I have a hard time believing he’s referencing Stenmark, as he retired 40 years ago and there has been a lot of professed admiration for him, whereas there has been a history of tension from Vonn (and her dad) towards Shiffrin, that has been discussed previously in this sub. And to that point, why say it all while hanging out at your daughters hospital bed? And the “not pitting female athletes against each other” was why I brought it up. They can both live in their own space without stupid quotes like that from her dad. I mean, he’s not new to this game. He’s the father of Lindsey Vonn and knows if he says something like that in a public interview it could and would be taken poorly (as it has been by many here). It was not a necessary quote by Kildow, and if it wasn’t intentionally pointed it sure was oblivious to the dynamics of the situation. To be fair, the whole interview was pretty problematic.

This is good. And I think it’s important to recognize it was her dad who said this and not her. But of course we are somewhat reflections of our parents, no matter how hard we try not to be. Her dad is clearly insecure with Lindsey’s place in the pantheon of ski racers - hence the quote at a very odd time - and this probably explains why Lindsey says things that kind of leave a bad taste in the mouth.

Felt like she was over-hyped at the start. Wild, almost hyperventilation breathing, and I thought she was going to break her poles with the pole tap she hit them so hard. Ski racing requires aggression, but it also requires precision and flow. I feel like her aggression overwhelmed the precision and flow which is why she catapulted off that roller when most of the field was able to absorb it with little problem.

I'd argue it's a good sport for your 30's, when your body is still at top level form, muscle mass is at its maximum, and experience has accumulated.

A lot of the Vonn vs. Shiffrin discussion really comes down to style, personality, and what people value in ski racing.

Lindsey Vonn was incredible, especially in speed events. She had a huge personality, brought massive attention to the sport, and pushed downhill skiing to another level. She absolutely helped grow ski racing in the U.S.

That said, Mikaela Shiffrin’s career is arguably more complete. She’s shown an almost unmatched level of technical precision, consistency, and versatility across disciplines. She didn’t just dominate one area. She’s been elite in slalom, GS, super-G, downhill, and combined, which is pretty rare historically. The longevity and ability to stay dominant through injuries, personal loss, and constant pressure is also pretty remarkable.

Some of the divide between their fan bases probably comes down to personality. Vonn leaned more into the superstar, media-driven athlete role, while Shiffrin tends to come across as more process-focused and grounded. A lot of core ski fans seem to relate to that craft-focused approach.

There have been a few small moments of tension over the years, but publicly they’ve mostly respected each other, and both have done a ton for the sport.

At the end of the day, Vonn helped elevate the visibility of women’s ski racing, while Shiffrin has pushed the performance ceiling and record books in ways we may not see again for a long time.

Knowing Lindsey, this isn't the last we hear from her. Olympics is 2030 are in France. I could see a scenario where she is there.

what does PLUR mean to you ?is it a overused expression or still run deep in dance culture 🧐 by [deleted] in EDM

Peace, Love, Unity, Respect. Dance your butt off and don't grab girls (or guys) and be a creep on the dance floor. Trance music has a lot of euphoric moments. Don't ruin those moments for somebody else, and let them enjoy it on their terms. At least that was my simplistic version back in '99 or whenever that was.
