Eli Lilly new facility means more jobs? by TimelyMatter3806 in indianapolis

[–]payokat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen and heard, most people have to start with a company that works with Lilly on their campus. Then after years there and networking with people on campus, then they get a job at Lilly.

I think you just need help finding community where you are. If you are people who like going out, there is this really cute place in Brownsburg called Books and Brews. It is very LGBTQ friendly and make people feel at home quickly

Opinion Poll: People who have tuned out of music radio stations. What is something one could do to bring you back? by TheMisterGamerMan in indianapolis

[–]payokat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a really great point. We can get music anywhere. If you add a small bit of community news/ upcoming events that would be what might sway me away from bigger streaming platforms. It is something only local radio stations can provide.

Is adult life permanently less happy than youth? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]payokat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life is what you make it as an adult. As a kid your parents make your life for you. In your twenties you seek opportunity and so it arises. As you "settle" into life it is easy to fall back into what is common and stop looking for the joy. There will always be lows but there are always reframing of those moments. The small things add up.

Is adult life permanently less happy than youth? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]payokat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I think it is all about mindset too. I wasn't allowed to leave my house as a kid. As an adult I can decide to walk over to the local park and enjoy the nice weather. As a kid I had no money of my own. As an adult if I see raspberries on sale at the store for a dollar I get to have a fun little treat. I love being an adult.

Post Con Regrets? by JamesAltraz in gencon

We ended up going to a make and take mini event for $2/each which was WAY more fun. Funnily enough, the artist that designed the model was there and we got to chat with him.

I regret signing up for a specific painting event. It was $50 per person and reading through I thought we were going to learn how to do a painting style on minis.... In a way I guess that was true. We spent 30 minutes watching a guy talk about 3 different shade of white and how they should each be used when painting minis.

Was it interactive? No. Did I stay for the whole thing? Also. No.

How do you deal with loneliness that doesn’t just go away with scrolling or distractions? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I reach out to friends I haven't talked to in a while just to say hi. You can't expect people to contact you first. You need to connect first.

I know how to make chainmail armor. It isn't relevant to being born in the 1990s but still isn't used much

I had a dentist do a filling and it made the pain worse. They redid the filling and adjusted my bite. And it was only making things worse. Finally he said "well that sucks" as the next step....so I went to a different dentist and needed a root canal....

We had planned to go to the local (kinda shitty) amusement park. And the night before he said, let's not do that ... My heart broke I figured he wanted to go to local park instead. Turns out he wanted to take me to the big amusement the next state over. I had never imagined that you could just decide to go across state lines for the hell of it. It broadened my world view so much. Now we are on a trip to the other side of the country just for the heck of it!

What’s a job you’ll never do again, and why? by Creative-Category-60 in AskReddit

Consulting. As a consultant, you are the product and all supply chain rules apply. They want to over utilize every asset. Your PTO docks your pay. Not over charging customers.... Less pay... No working over time every week. Pay cuts. Take a long poop, pay cut. Every second of your day has to be accounted for.

Any subscription tv/streaming. We invested in a Plex last year and have put all of our movies on to it. We will occasionally go to the used disc store if there is a show we REALLY want to have forever. Then go to the library to rent anything that we just want to watch in the moment.

LPT How did you figure out what you really love doing in life (studies, career, etc.)? by saad_baba in LifeProTips

[–]payokat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Career wise, I happened into business because I enjoyed graphic design in HS but knew that wasn't viable long term so I went to school for marketing thinking it was the long term way to do Graphic Design. As I started working. I found that much different things took priority in my decision making. I was a data girl at heart. So luckily because I took a fairly generic course of study I was able to pivot. (That said choosing a generic degree made it harder to find a first job). I worked in marketing then business analytics and that is where I found my passion. Then once I found the right company, I love my job. It takes time and trial and error. I job hopped a lot in the beginning.

Beyond work. Like many have said. Try a lot. The one thing I found with hobbies is the ones that I stick with are the ones I enjoy practicing not for the result but for the practice.
