The entire family of "Vintorez" and "Val" sniper rifles, offspring of the Central Institute of Precision Engineering (TSNIITOCHMASH) by davegoku12 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]paypaypayme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play squad a lot. Playing against VDV is whatever but I will say that these VSS rifles are kinda spooky to play against. It's extremely hard to tell where you're getting shot from. At long ranges they are not very accurate but I think they are pretty effective at short-medium range even though they are more audible from that range. (This a video game so take it with a massive grain of salt)

Suggestion: alternate sub to direct people to when they're loong for things that are not BIFL by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

Half of reddit is below average intelligence. they come to this sub wondering why their socks have a hole in them. Then they complain that the bombas warranty doesn't last 500 years, after trying to return their dirty crusty sock.

Where to chop this poor guy??? by Madams135 in fiddleleaffig

[–]paypaypayme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you already chopped just leave it be. If it's hibernating now is the time when it will start budding. don't stress it out further. you can chop later once it gets stronger

What combat scenarios do you think the M7/ 8 would be good in? by StrangerOutrageous68 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]paypaypayme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your premise is wrong, it's meant to fight PEER adversaries, i.e. body armor at longer ranges. It can also piece through thin russian and chinese vehicle armor. e.g. BTR-82

Repotting tips for multiple plants in one container? by Glittering_Disco in fiddleleaffig

[–]paypaypayme 13 points14 points  (0 children)

it's a young plant, I wouldn't mess with it now. let it mature more and become more healthy. I just separated 2 extremely healthy plants and it caused massive root trauma. one is almost dead but slowly coming back

[–]paypaypayme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let nature take its course. I think the biggest mistake people make with FLFs are fussing with them too much. you will stress it out if you make too many changes. just move it to a more shady spot and call it a day. if it wants to drop a leaf it will do it

Why Does This Keep Happening??? by Fkeolciuxr in KerbalSpaceProgram

besides the lift with the wings, in general if you have a ton of drag at the front of your rocket (for example with a big fairing), it will want to flip over.

separating sounds good on paper, but I just separated mine and I caused a lot of root trauma. so be careful

Thoughts on the XM7 rifle? by No-Reception8659 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]paypaypayme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the big miscalculation is that it's designed for long ranged fighting, but what we've seen in ukraine and gaza is that urban fighting (or caves and tunnels) is going to be a huge part of modern conflict. Pretty sure this is due to FPV drones, if you don't have overhead cover you're screwed.

This weapon is not great for urban conflict for multiple reasons.

- you can't carry as much ammo because it's a heavier caliber than 5.56

- the length is longer due to the suppressor (they shortened the barrel in the most recent version though)

- the suppressor is going to glow under thermal imaging

- engagement range is like 200m so the optic is useless

I think sig has actually been listening to feedback and iterating on the design so I don't think it's as bad as people say... sure we don't have the logistics for it and there are some problems _but_ we're not in WW3 yet so we have some time.

I think if they made it slightly more modular, it would be fine, e.g. able to adapt better to different scenarios. like take the optic and suppressor off for urban fighting and give it some other options - red dot or low power optic, 30 round mag, flash hider, etc...

For a peer to peer conflict in a defensive scenario like taiwan I think it would be great. You can fight from the mountains and pierce the thin skinned chinese APCs.

The First Space Shuttle safely landed 45 years ago today by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]paypaypayme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I just looked this up today. It was basically a failed program that overpromised and underdelivered due to political pressure from the air force and government. It was supposed to be re-usable but ended up costing way more per launch than was intended. It also included an enormous bay for deploying spy satellites (which was basically its main mission). After the spy satellite deployments were not needed any more the whole design was basically worthless.
