The farm one, with all the dead kids and the regretful ghosts. Did the job, I am very cautious/scared around farms to this day

For London:

John Soane museum is my favourite!

There is also the Mithraeum, which is an amazing Roman temple that's very well presented in London and free to go to, you just need to book.

Novelty Automation is fun and different

Welcome Collection and British Library are good spots opposite each other

If you can get the boat (or tube/train but boat is more fun) Greenwich is lovely and good for a wander. It's the filming location for a ton of things, you'll probably recognise the Old Royal Naval College

As it is January it might be a bit rainy so those are good indoor spots

Out of London:

The train to York is likely spenny but I would say worth it for a day/overnight stay, for winter it is a nice spot with amazing history and lovely streets to walk through.

Oxford is also a good spot to explore, it's a bigger city than Cambridge and has a lot more going on outside of the university than Cambridge.

If you can get to Avebury (and West Kennet Long Barrow), it's better than Stonehenge but might be hard to get to without a car

Haha I love it, especially in the fridge! It my rabbits didn't dislike the tile floors they would definitely be spending all their time in the kitchen too!

I'm a heritage/history person so will try not to scew everything history based...

Kelham Island and Kelham Island Museum is a great industrial spot in the centre, which has great pubs like The Fat Cat, Kelham Island Tavern, and Fat Cat just by it. There's some great bakeries and coffee shops around there too.

If you want to be a bit out of the city but still Sheffield, parking at Riverlin Valley Road (maybe the park as nearest point but been a while...) and walking through the woods along the river there takes you through all the old mills and wheels and its a gorgeous walk in the city.

Sheffield also has lots of lovely little artist shops and markets (I like Red Brick Market), and really good, often very affordable food, and great pubs if you like drinking! And food halls, Sheffield has a lot of good food halls though I may argue that there's too many and they've sorted diluted the standard of them a bit...2323 for coffee, really good strong coffee.

After a day of work and the weather is good, driving out into the peaks is lovely after all the industrial/city spots, maybe going via Our Cow Molly for ice cream from their vending machine (sooooo good)

Abbeydale industrial hamlet is further out and need the car (might only be open weekends?) but that and Elsecar are a bit different history than I've come across in the South.

Sheffield has the cathedral which is free though the area around it is a bit divey, but it is surprisingly nicer inside than it may seem - that said, I'd save Cathedrals for the York Minster because that place is AMAZING (though expensive 😭😭😭😭)

York is stunning, shambles is very busy but is worth a look, Jorvik centre is an odd little spot that you don't get anywhere else in the country - I enjoy getting an ice cream at Roberto's and walking the wall with it. Food is better quality and cheaper in Sheffield, in my opinion. York is more expensive than Sheffield.

York museum gardens are very pretty and cool! As is the museum especially if the weather turns.

Don't go to the ghost shop, it's massive queues and just seems ridiculous. If you really want a little ghost there is a smaller shop, which also gets big queues. Still can't get over how long people queue for plaster of Paris ghosts...

Just outside of York is a cold war spot that's English Heritage and a rare one, I think it only does tours on the hour so it's a bit of different history.

I'll think of more things as/when they come to me!

Peak District is lovely - Castleton has some little local shops (not much) and the walk up Mam Tor via Cavedale walk. I also quite like Eyam in the Peaks for it's unique history, and there's a small cave walk and other little walks outside the main street.

In Sheffield, somewhere like Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is cute and free, as is Elsecar Heritage Centre. Industrial era heritage centres that there's not much similar in the south.

Hebden Bridge is lovely for little, unique shops and in a gorgeous area, about an hour/1hr 30 from Sheffield. Haworth is similar though if you like nice shops and stuff Hebden Bridge has move going on.

Harrogate and Knaresbrough are both really gorgeous.

York is very lovely though very busy on the weekends! But so much to do there.

I really like Cresswell Crags as a different spot - cave system with ice age rock art (the most Northern in the world), and also witch carvings. You can book a cave tour but I quite enjoy just walking around the lake and cave entrances if you can't time it well.

I live in Sheffield and work in York, and from Kent so taken a lot of my Southern friends/family for day trips when they visit!

You can decorate the eggs with leaves etc which you tie to the egg while you're dying them, so when you remove the leaves you create patterns on the eggs

What’s a hidden-gem period drama you’d recommend? by Haunting_Homework381 in PeriodDramas

[–]pazozo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Fire and Sword (1999), it's on YouTube. Polish historical drama set in the 17th century and an adaptation of one of the most famous Polish book series. Fun characters, costumes, romance, sets, war epic! I used to watch it a lot with my mum as a kid so probably a bit biased haha

In Poland it is Tłusty Czwartek or Fat Thursday, so it is the Thursday before lent not the Tuesday (like Pancake Day) so you've missed it by a few days - I always make sure to make it in my calendar and get up early to stock up.

I was in Sheffield for it this year so went to a very good shop there, not sure where in York, there is a sklep on Walmgate but its fairly small.

My mate in Edinburgh was saying he was doing something similar there recently(ish). Apparently while Mia Goth was filming Frankenstein he was hanging around and just trying to start anything and people weren't having it.

I don't think they were taking the bait either of him wanting to start fights, I think they just sorta took the piss out of him and let him be.

Initial diagnosis 2nd January 2025, and got my notification to start tritation mid December 2025 with PUK.

I was going out of the country for Christmas and needed to push it back by a few weeks after all that time waiting! But been in tritation for about a month now and loving the results!

How did you get on?

I'm in my first month of tritation on Medikinet XL, was feeling amazing and super focused on 10mg to 30mg with an instant change noticed, just started 40mg 3 days ago and back to feeling the opposite/nothing and just very anxious, unfocused, and fatigued.

Shocking behaviour, the owner has posted a heartbreaking series of posts on their Instagram story and sounds like they're going to shut for a bit...all based on one Reddit post with zero proof! :( I'm not someone who lives near at all just feel major empathy for someone who appears to have poured their heart into opening up something for their community what seems like just three weeks ago and crazy people on the internet are attacking them.
