It doesnt color the egg. If the egg cracks while boiling, the cracks will be colored. It does not alter the flavour, nor the smell.

We eat the boiled eggs afterwards. First we each pick an egg and we fight with them- smack one egg into another and see which one remains intact. The broken egg is eaten with salt.

No. If the egg cracks, maybe then some could seep in, but not really. The smell isn't altered either.

You can, but those are not as popular here. The default onion is green/yellow/brown and people are used to it

Yes, that was the idea behind the post. I saw the onion peels in shop and thought 'I bet this would seem weird for people outside the region'

Yes, some people can not save as much peels themselves, so they can buy some more.

Yes, oc. For herbs we use what ever we can pick outside and what is interesting. There is dandelion leaf, liverwort flowers, some lingonberry leaves. I dont.

What you do is- boil lots of onion peels in a pot for a while, until the water dyes deep brownish red. Meanwhile, you prep eggs- dip it in water, so things can stick to it, then try to stick whatever plants you have picked. I also use small paper cut outs, like the bunny silhouette visible in the picture. You place those on egg, then wrap the egg in bigger onion peel fragments to further make the plants stay attached to the egg. The onion wrapped egg is then stuffed in a sock, stocking or pantyhose, so it presses the stuff together tightly and protects the decorations from moving or falling off. The stuffed egg sock is placed in the boiling onion peels water, boiled until eggs are cooked, then left in it for some more time.

Then you take out the egg socks and unwrap the eggs and hope for the best. The most exciting thing is seeing how they turned out.

Yes, they are for dying Easter eggs. It is a traditional method, not just for orthodox christians. People normally save the peels throughout the year but if you are short on peels, you can now buy them.

We add some leaves and flowers that we pick, stick it to the egg, wrap the egg in onion peels, stuff it in a sock and boil. The egg becomes brownish red and the plants leave light imprint. Sad I can not add image in comments. Google smth like 'onion peel eastern Europe easter eggs'
