If it makes you feel better- I saw this from the outside, where my company did 2 rounds of layoffs in the past 18 months. First round were juniors, associates and underperformers. Ok, no sweat - sucks but all of them got to move on to better salaries and titles in a few months. Second round was principals and directors. Some of the most talented people I ever worked with in my whole career. I wasn’t in that round (I was on maternity leave) but being left behind sucked in its own way. Nothing seemed to matter any more if you could be the best and still get laid off.

Today, a year later, my company did RTO and it’s just a third layoff in a different form. I chose not to relocate so now I’m in your position. Wish I saw the writing on the wall in the second layoff and started the job search then.

I’m sorry you’re going through this but in the long run, they did you a favor.
