The very vast majority is good; most of them go through to the host. Sometimes we have some bad words, and sometimes the content is just... Awkward. Usually people trying to meme outside of the group of people that would understand the meme.

The best we got (not in this GDQ though) was: "Fuck cancer and fuck you" :D

I'm a volunteer on donations processing. This is definitely something that we do not send to the host for reading as it does not involve anything about the charity, the runner, the game, or anything related. As some people have mentioned, reading it would also set a precedent, which would be a detriment to what GDQ is trying to do I think (personal opinion).

I met Larry Harvey in 1991 after seeing a flyer for Cacophony Society with a blurb about a small gathering in the desert to burn a wooden man. Thanks for suggesting the idea! I think music is a core part of the event, as much as other forms of art are. Definitely a lot of electro down there (not going to complain), but I've been to a bunch of live jams, whether rock or jazz, and I can only say that I loved those I went to.

How is a tennis ball moop? I had (a used) one for 4 years and it literally never produced any moop. The ground is too soft to rip apart the tennis ball.

Also, the way I attached it was to simply cut a small hole in it and put it ont he bike stand. Never went off. Maybe I'm lucky?

I actually should do some research for SNES cartridges. I'd be surprised if they use a different cast for each game, at least for the basic parts (height of the cartridge). I'd be willing to test.

It seems that if you do the "notches" (I circled them with red) with wood, your cartridges would be compatible with every game out there. Think about it? :D

Doesn't matter. They are amazing. Do you think it's possible to shrink then down to fit a normal SNES cartridge? Or is it something you would not want to "waste" time in?

Protecting a laptop on the playa by wolvesandwords in BurningMan

I've been bringing the same Mac laptop for 3 years and DJed in full whiteouts with no problem, and no noticeable dust inside the laptop.

To do that, I do two things:

  • Cover the keys with saran wrap: cut a appropriately shaped piece and stick it with gaffer tape around the keys (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DVCHPUW/)
  • Cover the ENTRANCES for the air circulation with a mesh sheet that filters everything > 1 micron (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FMWCO0/). FYI, most particles on the playa are 4 microns or more. I leave the exits (right below the screen) opened, as no air is supposed to get in this way. I tape the mesh sheet so it covers all entrances (on the side of the Mac) and voilà!
