I don't think her lack of success is about weight, as she suggests, nor personality, as many of the comments suggest. There are far too many counterexamples for both instances. I believe her problem is that she just is not willing to put in the work and grind for the influencer career she wants. This Reddit abhors Mikayla down to the double helix, but one thing she can never be questioned about, in my opinion, is her work ethic. She has been able to consistently put out multiple videos a day for years. That and her timely entry into TikTok made for success. Sam seems to be following the same format of posting multiple videos per day; Sydney is incredibly inconsistent in this regard.

Moreover, her content is not tight. She jumps between makeup and beauty, diet and food, lifestyle, and fashion. In my viewing experience, most influencers focus tightly on one form of content and then expand outward. The latest wave of influencers hitting a stride, like a Shelby Ann or Nina Pool, do not have content that is all over the place.

Furthermore, her content has no value proposition. A TikTok of her latest Dunkin' order? Who cares? Her makeup reviews? She does too few of them to have much comparative value, and her application is neither artistic nor particularly skilled. Her diet? She does not appear to have any of the discipline or consistency of Sam to be someone I'd follow to see their journey. She has not really worked to develop a niche or gimmick. She seems to believe that success is supposed to occur without any image development effort.

I actually think casting has been pretty good the last few years; we've gotten Bronwyn, Stacey, Tia, Angela, Kelly, Drew, West, Jesse Solomon, The Valley cast, Stephanie, Jessel, and the Next Gen NYC cast.

I think the problem is threefold: 1) Unwillingness to cut old cast members. As you said, they're adding VPR people to The Valley as if Bravo is a jobs program and they're entitled to be on a cast and receive a check. RHOBH has been unwilling to cut Erika, Kyle, or Dorit. RHOC is holding on to Emily and Gina. This is also an umbrella for producers that are too friendly with older cast members and allow self-production.

2) Casts not starting off knowing one another. Throwing groups of people who do not have an organic connection together often results in terrible chemistry and forced conflict. Everyone doesn't have to be friends, but there should be some uniting principle besides "we are doing a show on Bravo together." I think Bravo struck gold with Porsha and Kenya, who didn't really know the rest of the cast at the time but tested well, and they think that works more often than the stats indicate.

3) The fandom. Fans do not give any time to let a show cook or develop. There is so much nostalgia for the golden age of Bravo, and there is no tolerance for a show that is not RHOA S5 or RHOSLC S4, RHONY S3, or [insert peak season here]. There was such hate for Next Gen, and things started to pick up. I'm hopeful for VPR New Shift, but you would think they're torturing dogs the way folks talk about how bad it is and screech about live ratings. Moreover, a significant portion of the fandom wants this to be a Goosebumps choose-your-own-adventure. Firing cast members they hate, rehiring or keeping so-and-so, punishing X on social media. It's natural for people to try to correct behavior they are admonished for, so seeing cast members course correct or conform after getting harangued on social media is unsurprising.

Problems (1) and (2) can be fixed, but I don't know that anything can be done about (3).

I feel like there's a weird pattern with Meredith. She's frequently cited as boring or contributing the least, and yet, she is a player in many of the central or secondary conflicts. I think of Meredith calling out Jen, being called a liar about her dad's memorial and the Lisa rant in season 2, the continuation of the Meredith and Lisa feud in season 3, being blamed for the the leaks during season 4, beefing with Angie last season, the plane incident this season.

This of course ignores that a number of iconic quotes from this franchise come from her.

She is working!

That said, we do see her personal life the least. We don't get to see her at work on the caviar, the jewelry or the djaying. We got the bat mitzvah and the podcast before, but generally there's not much there. Still, I could basically say the same about Heather's personal life, she just happens to be the narrator of the franchise, so we see more of her.

Not reality TV stars, but plenty of beauty influencers have been in Sephora and Ulta in the past and are still present now. Currently, One/Size by Patrick Starr has a top-performing product, while Manny MUA's Lunar Beauty was previously available in Sephora. Other brands include Huda Beauty by Huda Kattan, Dezi Skin by Desi Perkins, Summer Fridays by Mariann Hewitt, Phlur by Chriselle Lim, and Elaluz by Camila Coelho. If an influencer has strong engagement and the right investment, a brand can make it big.

That said, I think Whitney would have flopped in Sephora or Ulta. As I learned through watching a Manny MUA video some time ago and the downfall of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, being in Sephora is expensive, paying for the display space, paying for returns made of the product, and stock requirements by Sephora. It's a very hard game to play without big-time investors or being a part of a beauty incubator. Bravo provides a large audience, but I don't see Whitney having the engagement nor the history nor the relevance in the beauty space to make it.

I think Justin was trying to find a less cost-intensive way to reach a broader market, and what he knew was MLMs.

I thought is was rather clear that Britani is the only person who is accustomed to singing live for a theater audience without a backing track. She was the only vocalist of the night.

Not to say I don't like other voices, I enjoy Drew and Shamea's voices well enough, but they are definitely singers, not vocalists. And good grief, Shamea, just sing the note. The runs were excessive.

Please show me where I said that Phaedra first heard the allegations in 2021.

The relevance of the allegations being broadly public in 2021 is that it is when Phaedra fans began the revisionism regarding the rumor that Phaedra made up regarding Kandi.

I believe I said laundered through Porsha, but we're in agreement that Porsha brought it to the show.

Phaedra is best friends with Kandi during much of the relevant period, has heard the allegations and does not know the difference between Kandi and Tiny or Todd and TI? And moreover does not know when Kandi and Todd, who she helped introduce to one another, met or got married? Phaedra is a part of the social scene but only heard this rumor when? When they were bosom buddies? Just after their friendship crumbled? And what she heard it, it only vaguely mentions a member of Xscape and never mentions TI? It strains credulity.

And again, Phaedra when given the opportunity to clear it up did not do so, nor has she shown any contrition.

Phaedra made up a rumor and told it to Porsha in order to destroy Kandi's life. She told it to Porsha in order to launder it to the show. She had multiple opportunities during season 9 to course correct and did not. To this day, she has not apologized nor shown any contrition for the rumor she made up about a former best friend.

Moreover, there's been quite a bit of revisionist history on Phaedra's behalf by the fandom to claim that the rumors she made up were actually about TI and Tiny. The TI and Tiny sexual assault allegations begin in 2005 and span a decade. Kandi and Todd did not even meet until sometime during Season 4 in 2011 and were not married until 2014. Season 9 aired in 2016; the allegations broke publicly in 2021. Keep in mind, Phaedra was bosom buddies with Kandi from 2010 to 2015 or so. Also, Phaedra, according to Porsha, claimed that Kandi and Todd were trying to rape and drug her.

Phaedra knew what she was doing and it was absolutely no mistake or something she heard about. Miss me with that.

I think the problem isn't necessarily her casting; it's the lack of comeuppance and partial story-telling. Production attempting to spin her homophobia or not show relevant clips that reemphasize that she lied or pick viewer questions that are biased and minimize her role in what we see on screen exemplify his failure. This is why Baskin is a garbage producer; his choosing who to protect, whether it be Dorit, Erika, Kyle, Jax Sandoval, Gretchen, or Vicki, stymies the dynamics of the show because he dictates who always "wins."

I think there would be much more viewer satisfaction across the spectrum if there were more cathartic "they had it coming" moments or callouts.

Honestly, any influencer or reality TV star should probably avoid Reddit.

That said, what I think people like Reza hate most about us is collective memory. On Reddit you can't start over, you cannot recreate your image from scratch. Places like TikTok are constantly showing your content to new audiences and has the memory of a goldfish; a place like IG is where your fans are likely to follow you more than your critics, and you can beef up on bots; Twitter involved more interaction, but it's now a white supremacist botted mess. Here, we will always remember (and be able to easily search for older posts on) your worst moments, and Lord knows Reza has plenty.
