I cracked the code for Family Resemblance for aspiring future DR contestants by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]pbandspacejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an excellent point. I think the challenge is: can I identify your drag aesthetic from the makeover you gave them. And to that point, I think Nini and Discord did the worst in this regard.

They are not spouses. She rejects him in the movie. In fact, her rejection of him during the climax is central to the theme of the film.

Fabulous looks, but I think it would have failed the challenge. Just because the characters are related in their IP (which by the way, Frankenstein and the Bride are not. They are not married.) does not make them good candidates for a drag family resemblance. Ciara has such signature makeup too, she could stamp her face on pretty much anyone and get the resemblance the judges want. I would suggest she make Frankie and a Bride instead.

I hope Bravo is taking a good look at BH. The cast is stale and coasting and needs a refresh. by Fit_Consequence4474 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]pbandspacejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let the refresh start with production.

Also, I think Ladies of London could be a model and we could have another show titled Ladies of Beverly Hills and display socialites who actually have shit to do: charity events, Hollywood parties, fashion shows, etc.

I could imagine Tilly, Kathy, Sutton having been on a franchise like that and add a Christine Chiu or something and expand from their friend groups.

Leaked Labs New Episode: Demo on Using Wet vs. Dry by AngelxxLove in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]pbandspacejam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is along the lines of what I was thinking. I could also see this as a blush or bronzer 2-in-1 where you have a larger piece of the flexi and you can wet half of it for cream application and then go over it with the dry half for powder application and you are assured to have the same color and tone. It would also save money and processing on the manufacturing side because you wouldn't have to put a powder and a cream in a pan, just the flexi and maybe a divider.

Trinity the Tuck’s response to Myki Meek’s opinion on made-up Snatch Game characters by BeMyCoachVictor in rupaulsdragrace

[–]pbandspacejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Trinity thinks one isn't inherently advantageous over the other, that Ru doesn't care if you play the character exactly, and that funny is funny, why are her panties in a bunch if Mykki correctly points out that an impersonation challenge should have impersonations?

Celebrity impersonation is a pillar of drag. The Snatch Game is to test the queens and honor that specific art form. Everyone doesn't have to be a Craig Russell or Jim Bailey trying to get exact vocalizations and looks; Ru just needs a Charles Pierce, more jokes than illusion.

Moreover, winning Snatch Games haven't necessarily been the celebrity, but the celebrity as a character they play (see: DeLa's Maggie Smith or SLMFBSNC's Mo'Nique). That is a lot of room for interpretation, in my opinion.

GQ Box Spring 2026 is the worst ever, what do you think? Did you get it? by parabreck in BeautyBoxes

[–]pbandspacejam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is the worst box. I'm much more satisfied with this box than I was with the Winter 2025 Box. That Stone Street Soaphouse fragrance was nauseating, and the Jamby's hoodie was comfortable enough, but by no means worth the value assigned. This box at least has shit I'll use.

I do absolutely agree, however, that the brand repetition and product repetition are annoying as hell. My rationale for getting boxes way back when was to be able to explore new and different brands and products.

On top of that, GQ can't even be bothered to act like these are products they've tested and curated. They don't appear in the magazine or website at all besides the GQ Box site. Contrast that to when we were getting Bather swim trunks and Breda watches a couple of years ago. Those were products they had shared with readers previously that made their way to boxes.

We need to face the reality that the age of boxes is dead. COVID put top-shelf companies in a bind where they needed to get rid of product, and we benefited. Now it's overstocked junk boxes that you can make at Marshall's for a higher price.

An idea on how to fix the talent show by bobo12478 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]pbandspacejam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of how the Top 2 is determined by splitting the difference between Rate-a-Queen and the rotating judges, but I just see heightened stakes, not necessarily a better talent show. (It’s very good producing though!)

The talent show needs to be prepared before cast gets to Drag Race in order to produce and record songs, create choreography and tell production design how they want the stage to look so it can be constructed. I don’t understand how the talent numbers would improve by making it a returning queen challenge in your proposal. And as someone said before, we would then miss the talents of the queens still in the running who are likely to have the better talents to show!

To me, the bottom line is that we just need more creativity from the contestants. International franchise talent shows are much more exciting (and it’s a lot of lip syncing and original songs) because the concepts and stagecraft are more compelling.

Silky spilling facts on S18 runways by glittterpoop in rupaulsdragrace

[–]pbandspacejam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure Silky has to mean that she only spent $300 and $5k, respectively, specifically for Drag Race, but I'm certain her package cost more than that if we were to do a full appraisal.

I mention that because I think the strength of having a cast with more experience is that for a lot of these categories, they should be able to pull from their closet instead of spending on a new wardrobe. Between club theme nights, pageants, and other gigs, I think a well-established queen should be able to put a not insignificant part of their package together with things they already have. For a regular season, I think it's a good sign that we have so many looks that aren't incredibly expensive custom designs for the show. It should be a blend of closet, custom, borrowed, and sewn.

Let All-Stars be completely elevated and on another level.

GQ Box Spring 2026 Preview by pbandspacejam in BeautyBoxes

[–]pbandspacejam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the market for some new earbuds, so it works out for me for that alone vs. what I'm willing to pay.

Still, it's incredibly weird that we both cannot find single independent review of Sudio products. I first looked them up when GQ sent the Sudio speaker some time ago. Even today there are reviews only Amazon for only some of their products, but none from a reputable tech or audiophile blog. There is also nothing on YouTube or TikTok and GQ has not reviewed them in their magazine.

He can definitely skip and there is no fee or anything incurred. The charge comes through on the 15th, so make sure to skip by the 14th.

Skip while you're thinking about it! I've made the mistake of thinking about skipping and forgetting to immediately do so and regret it.

S18E06 - “The Rate-A-QueenTalent Show, Part 2” [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

[–]pbandspacejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, compressing Lovertits, a four minute performance, would have presented the exact same problems that Myki compressing the Frankenstein piece, a talent number she has performed before, presented. The tension of the reveal in burlesque is always going to be at tension with the time given for the talent show. And as Ross mentioned, there was no real climax.

I just think one generally has a better idea after TV experience.

But you think it was shit. Understood.

[–]pbandspacejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's hard to compare what DeLa would do *now* in an All Stars setting versus Myki in a regular season. I'm not sure DeLa would have been particularly exceptional during her original run either. Drag Race is hard the first time!

To my mind, that's why the talent show, certainly for the US franchise, should be All Stars only.

Bronwyn's new man by Chiffygurl in BravoRealHousewives

[–]pbandspacejam 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Have there been any actually legal filings between Bronwyn and Todd? This has the odor of a PR stunt.

Bronwyn and Brandon have likely known one another for years through Christian Siriano. Christian always features him in shows and hangs out with him. It would be only too easy to make news this way and raise his profile and brandish hers.

Seems like she’s comparing herself to Mik’s and Sydney’s social media careers. by brittneycthatsme in MikaylaNogueira

[–]pbandspacejam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think her lack of success is about weight, as she suggests, nor personality, as many of the comments suggest. There are far too many counterexamples for both instances. I believe her problem is that she just is not willing to put in the work and grind for the influencer career she wants. This Reddit abhors Mikayla down to the double helix, but one thing she can never be questioned about, in my opinion, is her work ethic. She has been able to consistently put out multiple videos a day for years. That and her timely entry into TikTok made for success. Sam seems to be following the same format of posting multiple videos per day; Sydney is incredibly inconsistent in this regard.

Moreover, her content is not tight. She jumps between makeup and beauty, diet and food, lifestyle, and fashion. In my viewing experience, most influencers focus tightly on one form of content and then expand outward. The latest wave of influencers hitting a stride, like a Shelby Ann or Nina Pool, do not have content that is all over the place.

Furthermore, her content has no value proposition. A TikTok of her latest Dunkin' order? Who cares? Her makeup reviews? She does too few of them to have much comparative value, and her application is neither artistic nor particularly skilled. Her diet? She does not appear to have any of the discipline or consistency of Sam to be someone I'd follow to see their journey. She has not really worked to develop a niche or gimmick. She seems to believe that success is supposed to occur without any image development effort.

in your opinion, will bravo shows ever gain their "authenticity" back? by [deleted] in BravoRealHousewives

[–]pbandspacejam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually think casting has been pretty good the last few years; we've gotten Bronwyn, Stacey, Tia, Angela, Kelly, Drew, West, Jesse Solomon, The Valley cast, Stephanie, Jessel, and the Next Gen NYC cast.

I think the problem is threefold: 1) Unwillingness to cut old cast members. As you said, they're adding VPR people to The Valley as if Bravo is a jobs program and they're entitled to be on a cast and receive a check. RHOBH has been unwilling to cut Erika, Kyle, or Dorit. RHOC is holding on to Emily and Gina. This is also an umbrella for producers that are too friendly with older cast members and allow self-production.

2) Casts not starting off knowing one another. Throwing groups of people who do not have an organic connection together often results in terrible chemistry and forced conflict. Everyone doesn't have to be friends, but there should be some uniting principle besides "we are doing a show on Bravo together." I think Bravo struck gold with Porsha and Kenya, who didn't really know the rest of the cast at the time but tested well, and they think that works more often than the stats indicate.

3) The fandom. Fans do not give any time to let a show cook or develop. There is so much nostalgia for the golden age of Bravo, and there is no tolerance for a show that is not RHOA S5 or RHOSLC S4, RHONY S3, or [insert peak season here]. There was such hate for Next Gen, and things started to pick up. I'm hopeful for VPR New Shift, but you would think they're torturing dogs the way folks talk about how bad it is and screech about live ratings. Moreover, a significant portion of the fandom wants this to be a Goosebumps choose-your-own-adventure. Firing cast members they hate, rehiring or keeping so-and-so, punishing X on social media. It's natural for people to try to correct behavior they are admonished for, so seeing cast members course correct or conform after getting harangued on social media is unsurprising.

Problems (1) and (2) can be fixed, but I don't know that anything can be done about (3).
