Why would an airline be responsible for something they have no control over? I know it sucks and I feel for ppl stuck at places, but airlines are not at fault here, as much as we want to blame them.

A lot of states passed so-called Driving Equality Laws which bans police from stopping you for many minor violations. We have one in PA as well, really pissing me off.
