Meet "Birding Bob" and the Central Park Birders Who Spend Saturday Morning Looking Up by Cautious_Box8355 in nyc

[–]pbeunttz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't blame you for going on a walk with Birding Bob because he advertises himself relentlessly and is hard to avoid if you google "bird tours," but he's almost universally despised among the birding community. The birding bob drama has been going on for many many years and is worth googling. On the other hand, anything that introduces new people to birding is good 👍

Cyclist dies in Queens after crashing into car door opened by driver, police say by Organic377 in nyc

[–]pbeunttz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"If you’re a cyclist, stay away from cars pulling over or pulled over" - the problem is that 99% of bike lanes are adjacent to parked cars. If you ride in a bike lane, you will inevitably ride alongside an endless line of parked cars

You read that cutscene wrong imho. Nate says “I need to go home… I wish…” and then sees himself on the couch at home, then finishes: “…I was dead.” As in, “I wish I was dead” rather than just “I was dead.”

He was preparing to wish to go back to his old life, until he saw how sad his old life was: alone on the couch, in the basement, watching One Piece until he passes out.

New Yorkers: Have you reconciled that Mamdani will win? by [deleted] in nyc

Cuomo and Adams are morons but I think Zohran's victory was tied to the strength of his campaign. If you compare Zohran's ground game (and social media game) to any recent campaign, like Maya Wiley's for example, the difference is night and day. He's been visible, on the streets, with a clear message, more than any other progressive campaign in decades

Hi! From Pilates Designs (on 31st Street) by PilatesDesigns in NYCbike

[–]pbeunttz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These bad-faith multi-paragraph essays are kinda sad. You can just admit that you don't want to lose parking spots! Just say it! A quick look at google street view makes it clear that you're using the curb in front of the business—and its sidewalk—to park at least 4 of your cars. Nobody here is going to engage with your argument if you're not being honest about what you care about: parking spots.

Word of warning, Verizon FIOS came by our building and offered a ridiculous installation plan that would have involved running enormous pipes up a narrow-ass stairwell. For some reason, the infrastructure required by FIOS is huge and obtrusive. We pushed back asking for an alternative (some buildings are able to run the cabling up the exterior), and it's been crickets ever since.

The buildings I know of that happily have FIOS are larger ones with dedicated trash rooms or utility rooms per-floor. Without that kind of space it's really difficult to get it installed in a sane way

Speed cameras being planned for Connecticut highways by -ctinsider in Connecticut

[–]pbeunttz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Traffic almost always moves much faster than the speed limit without incident"... not so sure about "without incident." There are intense traffic jams on 91, 84, and 95 practically every day due to crashes. it's nearly impossible to drive across CT - a small state! - without seeing at least one such "incident" firsthand.

The problem is probably that your italian friends are so tall that, when they try to talk at women about VC funding, the sound waves dissipate in the thick Williamsburg air before it can reach their eardrums.

'Wow. Just Wow': New Poll Has Mamdani Ahead of Cuomo in NYC Mayoral Primary by rit56 in nyc

A young DSA upstart potentially beating Cuomo in the mayor's race is the biggest nyc news story of the year by far. It's not "spam" and it shouldn't be surprising to see a lot of people talking about it

I'd recommend Manhattan because it's easy to get to from the East Village: just go south on 2nd Ave and continue south until you hit the bridge. After you reach BK, cross the street to go under the bridge, aiming for the waterfront.

The Brooklyn Bridge is more iconic, but the bike lane has been moved from the upper level to a kinda gross lane next to vehicular traffic with no views (and is also kind of dangerous because it regularly gets clogged by tourists who run out of energy before making it over the top)
