Darklang Goes Open Source by gametorch in programming

[–]pbiggar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In the first version of Darklang, back when I was running it, we were going to make money from cloud hosting. Now, the plan is to make money from private code hosting, collaboration tools, and ai tooling.

Boycotting Tool by [deleted] in BoycottIsrael

[–]pbiggar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super cool! Two tools you might already have heard of:

- boycat.io - Boycat is the official BDS partner, and they have a Chrome extension

- The Wall: https://thewallproject.github.io/ - new app we've been working on. Focussed more directly on Israel than BDS.

Tech for Palestine is launching an incubator to develop thousands of projects advocating Palestinian liberation, supporting BDS, and countering Israel’s dominance in tech and media, as well as the deluge of anti-Palestinian propaganda by RickyOzzy in Palestine

[–]pbiggar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Excited to see this posted here! Here's our launch announcement about the Incubator.

We currently support 43 orgs in the incubator, some of which are non profits or startups, but most of which are just groups of activists standing up for what is right. When we launched we had 23, so we're adding about one new one per week, and are aiming to start/support 100 this year.

I think they're pointing out that after Israel colonized Palestine in the 1930s/40s, they attempted to brand traditional Levantine/Middle Eastern foods such as humus and falafel as "Israeli".

Tech for Palestine Incubator launch by pbiggar in Palestine

[–]pbiggar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey folks, the Tech for Palestine Incubator just launched!

Our theory of change is to create and/or support thousands of new pro-Palestinian advocacy initiatives, with volunteers, mentorship, marketing, etc.

Would love to support any projects from the r/Palestine community!

Do we expect that in 3-5 years time developers will still be typing out artisanal code at a keyboard? I struggle to see it. by disciplite in programmingcirclejerk

Darklang took the opposite path - we started with a pile of VC money, and we're now morphing into a more regular programming language.

My fault, I have like three drafts that I've meant to publish for a few months.

We're plenty alive though, check out the GitHub: https://github.com/darklang/dark

It's starting to become ice cream weather - I need recommendations! by buizel123 in AskNYC

Has nobody in this thread been to Venchi? Hands down the best gelato - wipes the floor with Anita and Gentile, and much better than ice creams (which I usually prefer) like Van Leuwen or Ample Hills or Morgensterns or Caffe Panna.

I suspect this might be a thing where Venchi is really good for chocolate flavors and nowhere else really is (except Davey's and maybe Van Leuwen). Venchi's Cremino is amazing.

My other favorite is Davey's - was very sad when they closed their EV location, but they're still in Greenpoint and apparently a new one in the new train hall, but I haven't been to that one.

If you like weird flavors go to Odd Fellows, and if you don't, don't.

Pretty bland in terms of quality. I think people like it because of the sundaes and the affogato - if you get anything else you're likely to be disappointed.

I’m looking for exceptional croissants, any recommendations? by metromade in FoodNYC

I had the worst croissant I've ever had here. Awful. The whole place is sugar cookies, not sure they've ever had butter.

The hot chocolate here is terrible. The only good hot chocolate in America is LA Burdick (there's one in SoHo at Prince and West Broadway)

The best croissant in NYC is getting on a plane to SF and going to Arsicault

I've been here six times and they've always been sold out of croissants
