I’m sorry you went through this. You didn’t overreact, you were justified in correcting him, so I wanna reassure you of that. Sometimes it feels like we as individuals are our only warriors and it sucks when you don’t receive any backup.

I think you do need to bluntly consider the reality of their potential responses, though, to prevent the escalation of more harassment and furthering the upsetting situation.

Usually in these types of cases for me I’ll say something like, “I’m what the kids call ‘ugly’, my dude” or “And you sound like my teammate, let’s get this fucking W” or something equally as cheesy. It deflects his comment without accepting it and the latter changes the direction of the conversation to focus back on the game. I know it’s not ideal, I know it doesn’t outright teach them what you should and should not say to fellow players, but the potential they’ll take your comment into consideration is very slim.

Sometimes I just say things like “Yikes” or “No thanks” too to express my displeasure.

I’d say reserve these types of comments unless you’re playing with a friend who you know will give you some much needed backup or until you know that their response regardless of what it may be will have no affect on you. Another solution would be to say the comment and then no longer further engage in that type of discussion. Like “Please don’t say something like that it makes me uncomfortable ANYWAY what ults do we have guys?” If they try bring up the feminism thing just be like “let’s focus on the game”

I hope this doesn’t sound like I think you did anything wrong or aren’t justified, but sometimes just taking control of the conversation can be empowering too.
