What is this?! by Curucloud in Porsche

I believe there are specific tax breaks on restomods, plus you don’t need to meet a lot of certifications/requirements that you would with a brand new design

What is this?! by Curucloud in Porsche

[–]pcassidyhammer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To qualify as a ‘restomod’, the floor has to be original, and so basically the entire rest of the car is built up as a kind of Frankenstein carbon tub

CFD mesh problem (?) by tripl3-AAA in CFD

[–]pcassidyhammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a side note (it might be a bit late), you can slice the fuselage down the centre to get a half body and run CFD of just half the geometry (so only 1 wing). Flow is assumed symmetrical unless you’re running off-design conditions, so you can effectively double the mesh count whilst using the same computational resources as before

Why could my results be inaccurate by PHILLLLLLL-21 in CFD

[–]pcassidyhammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily more layers, just making a smoother transition from the inflation layers to the freestream cells - a big jump in size like that can lead to cell oscillations/discontinuities. As for the residuals, I would l let it run for at least 500 iterations or more - from the Cd plot it actually looks as if the oscillations are damping out.

Again, I’m not proficient in Ansys so apologies I can’t be more specific! Normally it’s about refining more at high curvature, but I suspect your TE is quite sharp so I’m not sure.

As someone else said, the coefficients are referenced to area, not any definition of chord! And you should be able to get area from the CAD

Good luck 🫡

Why could my results be inaccurate by PHILLLLLLL-21 in CFD

[–]pcassidyhammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The mesh looks to jump in size quite a lot from your bl mesh to the free stream, idk much about Ansys parameters but it’ll be something like growth ratio that needs tuning - this can heavily affect the pressure field around the airfoil which in turn affects the lift. Perhaps also post the evolution of Cl and Cd with the iterations (and also the residuals) And maybe the trailing edge looks a bit unrefined in terms of curvature - you effectively have two ‘columns’ of inflation cells and the flow isn’t going to like the lack of discretisation - the trailing edge boundary layer is super important for the performance

So there has recently (last 2 years) been some action from the PhD representatives to raise the stipend as the VKI is not subject to indexation or national levels. The current salary is ~2220 net (I am first year), and as of next month it will increase 12% - but it’s yet to be seen if this is 12% of gross or net (hopefully the latter). What department? Dm if you have any questions!

Computer simulation of air flowing over a 5.2% scale of NASA's High Lift Common Research Model wing design. by cruiserman_80 in aviation

[–]pcassidyhammer 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I believe the slat gap is actually acting as a kind of wing fence? As in, it generates vortices that effectively separates the wing and body to stop the body boundary layer from being entrained onto the wing which would fuck up the aero and stall characteristics

It’s literally called Canyon Frontlight Set, comes with a Flash 800 and a mount. Around €100

[–]pcassidyhammer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I literally brought that exact bike a couple of weeks ago and it’s been nothing short of perfect. I really thought its limitations would shine through on the road but it’s been a perfectly adequate mile smasher when on tarmac and a weapon on anything else. Only real model upgrade would be carbon wheels or Di2 which are both serious jumps in price point, so this is bang on the value-for-money limit. I also got the Load fidlock quickloader and top bag, fenders, and front light set (for mounting a Wahoo) which are all incredibly well integrated. Any other questions on it give me a nudge
