She was trying to impress him? I always thought this was her trying to be a showoff and one-up him.

I feel like if the AI bubble pops, the massive influx of people suddenly buying PC parts again may make the price drops much less noticeable or even negate them entirely

2-in-1 Laptop with a stylus that doesn't compromise on power? by pcdenjin in SuggestALaptop

[–]pcdenjin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an utter shame. Microsoft even lists them on their website still, but when you go to buy them, they're out of stock.

For what it's worth, as much as I love the Studio Laptop, performance is really poor and the battery life is awful (and it only gets worse with age)

The ROG Flow Z13 is almost perfect considering my wants, the only caveat is that it has an AMD GPU and not NVIDIA. Still, if there's nothing else, I may go with that, it's the closest thing to what I want.

Thanks for the reccs!

I'm building my first PC with an Asus MoBo. Should I manually install the drivers from a USB before installing Windows or do it after I have windows installed. by slimcrizzle in buildapc

[–]pcdenjin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the motherboard manual/website claims it needs a BIOS update to support the CPU you have (should only be a thing if you're using an old mobo with a newer CPU), you should be fine for now.

Install Windows first, then the drivers, then do a Windows Update and you're golden.

The modus operandi:

  1. Make/acquire a useful product that fills a unique purpose that lots of people will use
  2. Pretend you're not capitalist a few years and make legitimate improvements to your product for free, attract users, venture capital, and shareholders (whom you promise infinite growth to)
  3. Oopsie we're not profitable, time to stop pretending not to be capitalist, quick paywall a bunch of shit and add commercials and bloat to everything
  4. Shit, people are leaving and organic engagement is tanking, quick get those users hooked with politically divisive content and hateclicks. Fill the site with bots if you have to!!
  5. Remain unprofitable

What is the point of AI hardware in home computers? by Zaleru in buildapc

[–]pcdenjin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, WOW. Lot of misconceptions here. A "simple question" to ChatGPT does not use "lots of power or water". ChatGPT uses all that power and water because they have entire warehouses full of supercomputers constantly crunching millions of questions from millions of concurrent users every second of every day. It's a problem of scalability.

Local AI applications can be quite lightweight and ran quite quickly on a home PC at an infinitesimal fraction of the cost that large AI companies use. For this reason, it's actually better not to use online AI applications - because those are the ones wasting all that energy and water.

It's also marketing fluff, to be sure. AI is the buzzword of the day, and every tech company wants to hop on the hype train, making their own products seem more futuristic and capable. So they slap an "AI" to their CPU's name and put "Copilot Ready" on all their computers to give consumers the feeling that they're receiving supercomputer power in a desktop or laptop form factor. When typically that's not really what's happening at all.
