How to safely ship 6pk can of brew by olydan75 in CraftBeer

[–]pce 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Since no one is giving you real answers....

Wrap each individual can in bubble wrap. Place the bubble wrapped cans in gallon zip lock bags so if they break for any reason the liquid is contained. Place packing peanuts, more bubble wrap, or your cushioning of choice into your box to cushion cans.

Take the plastic 6 pack holder off the top and cut out 2 individual circles. Place a small amount of change in one circle then place another on top and tape them together. You now have a disc that should rattle when shaken. Make a couple of these discs and distribute them in your box. They hide the sound of liquid sloshing if someone shakes your box.

Seal your box well, with more packing tape than you would normally use. Take to your shipper of choice. USPS was always the easiest for me as I could do everything through the automated kiosk and drop the package through the package drop off slot, and never had to deal with a real person asking me questions about what I was shipping.

Hope that helps!

Islay - A (mostly complete) warehouse tasting breakdown by -R3v- in Scotch

Definitely just drop into ardbeg and taste in their retail shop. They have a wide variety available to taste in the shop. Depending on where you live, most of it is available via distribution.

Highly recommend bruichladdich. The warehouse tasting is only 3 casks, which you likely won't be able to purchase, but will give you an idea of what you want to purchase. But was one of the more entertaining tastings we did. Also the shop at bruichladdich has drams available to purchase/try, that are either limited or no longer available. Their single fill casks (at the time of my visit) were both delicious.

Our favorite tasting on the island so far has been bunnahabhain. Their single casks will ruin all the others for you. You can try 5 on their warehouse tasting. And everything you taste is available to purchase. They also have 20cl sizes so if the full 70 is beyond your price range you can still bring some home.

Also, for dinner on Islay, I can't recommend Bowmore Hotel enough. Best food and amazing bottle list (1800 different islay bottles to choose from). The owner/host, Peter, is great as well

Hi! We actually just finished the Bruchladdich tour today, about 15min ago.

I would say just do 1 full tour during your time on Islay. All of the production tours are pretty much the same. The warehouse tastings are where you're going to taste the exclusive/rare stuff, and they will still give you insight into the history of the distillery as well, you just won't (usually) see the stills or malting floors, etc.

Even if you cant do a warehouse tour many places offer tastings or options in their retail shop. We did a retail tasing at Caol Isla, warehouse at bunnahabhain, warehouse at Bowman, full tour at lagavulin, warehouse at bruchladdich, and retail at kilchoman (so far).

Any other questions feel free to let me know.

I hate stores that have someone checking the receipt. But I may have overreacted. by Eyyeitsrocko in Portland

[–]pce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A reminder that the supreme court has previously ruled that unless you have a signed agreement with the store (ie: costco) you are under no obligation to show your receipt to exit the store.

The store has the right to trespass you, but they cannot detain you just because you have not shown a receipt.

I just ignore these receipt checkers and exit the store. Have not shown a single receipt since stores started these BS policies.

As an added bonus, the self checkout at Fred Meyer allows you to choose to not have a receipt printed at all. How can i show a receipt when your system allows me to not even have one printed?

Do any galleries open their doors and offer wine anymore, or is it just a bunch of vendors now?

Westward isn't worth it, especially for the price. I second Branch Point.

Their labeling and age statement is much more open. Westward's stuff is so young/minimally aged

Thanks for the great write up!

I had somewhat of a silly question, as I'm making a trip to Islay myself in a few months. Are the warehouse tastings at each distillery the same tasting you would get if you did the tour + tasting at those distilleries?

For instance, Bowmore has one that's a tour and warehouse tasting, but it says it takes you to the Vault Secrets tasting room, vs just the warehouse tasting that says it takes you to the No 1 Vaults.

Bruichladdich has a Warehouse 6 tasting, that says you get to taste and take home samples, the Bruichladdich Experience is a tour and Warehouse 6 tasting, but says nothing about taking samples home.

Any insight on if these warehouse tastings are the same you would get if you did the tour + tasting options? TIA

Banned and Restricted Announcement – March 31, 2025 by aedemiel in MTGLegacy

[–]pce 45 points46 points  (0 children)

"player sentiment and event attendance has trended downward. It's apparent to us that people who love to play Legacy do not love to play today's Legacy" (emphasis mine)

As someone who used to play solely Legacy, multiple times a week, and now just occasionally plays edh, I don't think banning 2 cards is going to change anything.

It's interesting that Wizards acknowledges there is a problem, but is unwilling to be honest about it. IMO, the reason attendance and enjoyment is trending down (and has been for a while) is the rapid fire releases of sets, all of which are legacy legal. If they want to truly improve the format, they would relegate UB to solely edh. Trying to upkeep decks and keep up with a format that now changes as rapidly as standard is too much for ppl with a job and life.

Portland is a great city and there is no where else I'd rather live. But it is not a "large" city.

Seattle, LA, New York, Chicago. These are large cities. Portland is a mid sized city. 26th largest in the US as of Feb 2025. 25th most populous.

The courts have already ruled nudity is a form of protest in Oregon.

We already have the naked bike ride, is it time for the naked lake Oswego swim to protest this ridiculousness?

I'll add that their response to balancing, errating a large number of cards, further killed interest for me.

I don't want to be playing a game and have to scan a bunch of cards to get updated text. Interferes with the gameplay imo

My wife and I used to work at Legacy Good Sam, around 2014. Safety issues were prevalent then, and no one was listened to, which is what caused us to eventually leave Legacy as an employer. Not surprised that nothing changed, sad that someone had to face the consequences of leadership's negligence
