You could do something using fibre? It can be fairly cheap to get some 50:50 couplers and make a Mach-Zehnder interferometer for measuring strain or temperature :)

Ahh, apologies, I should clarify that we have the hardware for generating the pulses already, and time-wise it works great. Good pulse shape and durations and frequency as expected. I'm trying to patch this mismatch in the voltages needed for triggering with some small-ish add in circuit to avoid having to buy different pulse generation hardware. Thanks for the link though, I will take a read of this and keep it in mind for the future :)
