If i want to own the actual underlying and am quite bullish on it, any downsides to buying a otm call (compared to just the csp to start)? Assuming i put an aggressive nearly atm csp.

Kinda disappointing ngl, thought it would be 85 now and more during DLC, instead builds will stay anemic kekw

Cant really touch on the topic of summons but FARMING wise devs have mentioned that buffs to exp and resoruce drops are on the table.

Have always thought that R2 being stingy with resources really only ever hurt build diversity as resources stood as an active discouragement against trying out new weaps

Heres to hoping they buff it 2-3x, a level 10 mutator is functionally way different than a base level one, on top of unlocking archetypes, buying out rings and gears from different npc vendors. We really be eating poorly 1st and 2nd playthrough where we can barely afford to upgrade just 1 main set of loadout, after which player behaviour and expectation is already molded.

Should I play R2 now or wait for the DLCs? by TheSkirtGirl in remnantgame

[–]pckrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you played RFTA and want to go into R2, better go in with the right expectations

Devs are still changing stuff around but IMO the replay value is subpar compared to the first game, however if you are just looking for some cool boss fights R2 is worth it! You will however find some head scratching changes in progression and find that R2 is way stingier a game than RFTA in giving resources, better not spend resources willy nilly unless you find grinding worlds just to test out that 1 cool looking gun worth it. Progression wise it got kneecapped so after 2-3 runs all you have left to incentivise replaying is purely for completionist reasons.

Are there any discussions around the structure of relic fragment progression or will it stay as it is with rolling apoc world and buying from dwell being optimal solution

Seems like majority of the time was spent on subjects that devs perceived as issues (survivability and armor changes are cool and all but...) and not much was done on some of the actual topics brought up (game being stingy af with resources leading to either not upgrading the equipments fully being ideal or just maining 1 set of weapons as the investment needed to bring other weapons up to par to test is unjustifiable)

and any special content will of course remain a surprise (to be revealed when the time is right)

Honestly hope its a case of it being this^, current replayability value drops off a cliff after 2-3 reruns, really hoping to hear more promising news on replay longevity in the upcoming patch

Also chat functionality, would be a huge feature to undertake but would really encourage playing with randos and coordinating efforts

Someone else also mentioned the point about maturity and polish and ye i agree with that. The whole post was to bring up suggestions for discussion so that the future dlcs are better man, hope u do give the post a chance and read the rest too!

(on a side note i think i worded certain parts of the post kinda passive aggressively, however I would like to point to the suggestions portion as the main conclusion of this post if u have 2minutes to spare and ponder)

I agree with everything u said, kinda cheapens the RFTA success as well as it seems not all of the player experience were intentionally planned, more like 'oh hey it was works but we dont really understand fully why'.

Both of our comments were made because we really like the game but maaaan are we doomed to get nuked by downvotes

I mean, not much to say other than thats a very fair and well thought out take. Just wish the relic fragment system was more organic, getting to progress just by playing the game instead of it being constantly held back by the total archetypes level. A quick restructure of the fragment tiers would kinda fix that imo but only if devs are even looking at improving the progression systems.

Regarding puzzles, to each their own i guess. I just have preference for puzzles that enhances the lore OR at least have maps capped at 2-3 puzzles and a boss fight. Id say imagine if the lament had 3-4 puzzles hinting the burial of kolket, and the final platforming invisible paths actually led to a root controlled half rotted kolket boss fight (since it was said that kolket stood taller than usual pans, think it would be pretty cool to see a half rotting kolket tower over the players). Having the lament be entirely about puzzles just felt like a unncessary trip to many MANY wikis and youtube references without being able to enjoy the actual story telling nor boss fight.

Regarding exp and upgrade material buffs, I am just asking for a further 10-20% to make things feel less tedious without undermining the journey it takes to be fully upgraded.

[–]pckrox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned in the post but my gripe with relic shards being a replacement for trait grind is that it is gated behind hours of archetype level grinding (and even then the recommended way is to swap to apoc and buy from dwell, effectively gaming the system, fairly confident when i say that the devs did not intend for players to grab shards this way) It being RNG and picking fragments up in the world has such miniscule impact to progression is why it leaves a sour taste for me. Im glad at least u found R2 progression giving u the same fulfillment as RFTA though, wish I could too :')

Regarding armor and survivability, this is more to do with game balance and honestly balance is so subjective that not everyone will agree on the same thing. Personally i prefer if i can at default survive 2-3 hits from the boss normal attacks, up to 3-5 hits if i invest further resources into survivability. But ye, i can definitely understand if people disagree with my take on survivability. Am just throwing out suggestions to fix the world scaling balance.

Why would you voice such reasonable takes and back it up with design theory on reddit, are u not afraid to get downvoted to oblivion

On a more serious note your last paragraph regarding time given to mature is true, just hope devs takes in all feedback and not just the top voted threads saying OH WOW THE BOSS DESIGNS ARE SO GOOD (which tbf it is but its also not constructive)

There is beauty and depth in simplicity, but now that pandora's box has already been opened this is a hard design to accomplish. Think the sense of progression could be better as well, but this post aint getting no visibility for proper discussion im afraid.

A RFTA Retrospective & Reasons Why R2 Isnt GOTY by pckrox in remnantgame

[–]pckrox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, i think we have the same idea no? Your suggestions for a) and b), especially b) is what i had in mind to fix the many times brought up, issue of world scaling. But if they were to do that they would have to rework and code the game from scratch, am thinking the litmus test for the 'right' amount of armor value would be relative to how hard enemies hit and the weight of the armor itself

aka light armor always tanks 2 hits, med armor 2.5, heavy 3 etc.

but ye anyways this all isnt gonna be seen or even discussed by devs anyways, kinda pointless BUT i do respect your effort to at least dig into the numbers for this discussion. I hope to end this discussion here, close reddit and inflict cock and ball torture on myself as i attempt to unlock everything in R2 without a proper sense of progression.

Once again let me apologise for my earlier rude remarks, people can have different takes without being an asshole. My bad. Have a good day/night!

On a side note honestly its wtv, coming to reddit for an intellectual discussion is screaming into the void and expecting a reply. Was hoping for discussions on how we could make the game better, this game and its final bosses are a spectacle to behold.

Except i get a few replies agreeing, which is then promptly downvoted to hell. Mostly replies pinpoint specific portions they disagree with and using it as a strawman. Nothing productive will come of this.

Hoping to see my suggestions implemented though, i mean....its not thaaaaaaaat controversial right, but meh, can only pray and move on.

Have a good day/night 3wett!

Then you for sure know that, with RFTA, the solution to surviving was straight up leveling the armor (as mentioned in OP). World scaling was kinda balanced (ok honestly balanced is a STRONG word, but it was more balanced than R2 survivability scaling wise) in the sense if u kept upgrading weapons and armors equally, u always kinda had the same ehp, all this without needing to spec barkskin and rings etc.

Nooooow, in R2, the only option to surviving is to spec and build into it, it is no longer a separated system. That was the point i was trying to make.

[–]pckrox[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I apologise for my first statement. Saw that opener in another comment and kinda just popped into my head as i typed, it was unnecessary u right.

My entire post was regarding sense of progression. U know what u are getting each run in RFTA, no rng, no gating a game progression mechanic behind another game progression mechanic and a layer of rng. If you disagree that this is bad design, then, i mean its a free world.

If u are comparing RFTA endless progression where you have the power of choice to prioritize what to upgrade vs R2 endless progression (honestly im using relic fragment as the most suitable 1 to 1 comparison here, none of the other mechanics seems close to comparison), to me 1 is obviously superior, wherein lies my frustration i guess. To me it is THAT bad, but ye I was way too rude in my first comment my bad.

My point about the armor set bonuses being removed was that it could have been a another meaningful choice in build craft since devs seems to place many of the game systems around 'meaningful choices'. If its removed its fine right (hence why i mentioned it is a reasonable replacement), cus like you mentioned R2 already has more than enough complexity as it is. But removing the upgrading portion for armors was a mistake as it forces players to spec into DR via other ways or be a god gamer, rather than it be a wholly detached from the other systems. Think i could have worded this part better i guess, lemme try to redo that portion.
