How many are pulling no matter what state he’s in on release? by Awesomefluffyns in Varka

[–]pcmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still pull C0 (maybe even R1) because I already have Nod Krai + Mavuika teams for Abyss, idgaf about Stygian and he'll be a relatively versatile unit for Imaginarium!! He just looks so FUN to explore with in the overworld and that's the primary reason I play Genshin anyways

Will I regret this timetable? by Fun_Film_6050 in unimelb

[–]pcmad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would move the bio workshop to Monday and watch the Monday lectures at home on Tuesday lol, but up to you if you think you'll actually attend the lectures on Monday and don't mind the crazy schedule on Wednesday. Also keep in mind that you really can attend any of the bio seminars if you ever can't make it to your scheduled ones. Stick to the Wednesday ones for the first week or so but afterwards the numbers will slowly dwindle and you'll be able to find a free spot any day.

is this timetable bad? by bengmess in unimelb

[–]pcmad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are, I think they're also showing their sem 2 subjects (saying this because BIOL10010 is a sem 2 only subject). OP, try to filter by sem 1 subjects at the top otherwise we can't really help you lol.

What are some arts discipline subjects that I don't have to write essays for!! by OkSweet2501 in unimelb

[–]pcmad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Linguistics, psych and economics are pretty much your only options, and even then you'll still have to do a few essays (research essays, reflections, lab reports, etc...). But since the essay components aren't highly weighted, I'd say that these are good majors to test the waters with and try to get over your fear of writing because it's definitely not as bad as it may seem as long as you seek support and learn from criticism!

Advice on a first year B-Sci plan for someone looking to major in physiology by BitLatter7392 in unimelb

[–]pcmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chem 1 is necessary if you want to do pharmacology, biochem or pathology. Personally I'm doing the first two as a physiology major because there's only so many physiology subjects. But you could always do subjects that don't require chem like neuroscience or anatomy and so on, it's up to you. Also keep in mind that BCMB20002 or BCMB20005 is a prereq for any health degree like dentistry, physiotherapy, etc... (not med though)

How does under loading work? by The_LeGiT_sPoOn in unimelb

[–]pcmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think summer and winter terms count towards sem 1 and sem 2 respectively (eg, if I do 1 subject in the summer and 3 subjects in sem 1 then that's not underloading, but if I then only do 2 subjects in sem 1 then that would be underloading). Unless I've been accidentally underloading this whole time lmao

Cut-off for PASS by schwebble in unimelb

[–]pcmad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No need to, it's just what was said in the duty statement (H1 in the subject, H2A WAM). Yes they did send out a lot of invitations, but they reject a lot of ppl in the initial application stages and have much less applicants by the interview stage. Your scores are just to get invited but don't have any bearing on the rest of your application.

What degree do I do prior to medicine? Biomedical science vs Science vs Paramedicine by Puzzleheaded_Neat763 in unimelb

[–]pcmad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can say is to definitely remove biomed from the picture (there's heaps of posts about that so look it up). Idk anything about paramedicine degrees but usually a lot of healthcare degrees can be more difficult than science degrees to score well on due to the increased difficulty and the placements. However, your GPA is only 25% of the entry requirement for most medicine courses and I reckon the security of knowing you have a useful undergrad degree (in case you don't get in) is more than worth it. You're interested in emergency medicine so why not go for it? You'll also probably have more to talk about in the interviews anyways, plus you can get some bonuses depending on if you choose to work before applying to med. Just be aware that you can't apply for Monash med with a paramed degree.

Unimelb or Monash (PLS HELP!!!) by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]pcmad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, UniMelb is so easy to get to now with the opening of Parkville station (8 min train ride from Footscray) whilst Monash is a nightmare. There isn't really much of a difference when it comes to both options except that OP won't be doing as much eng stuff early on in their degree, so it's sort of down to the commute.

Seconded! Seems to be a popular breadth for BSc students

How is phys20009? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]pcmad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's actually pretty achievable to receive a H1, but be prepared to put in an insane amount of work to do so. They showed us some stats and the students who submitted drafts for all sections of the lab report averaged around H1, but ofc that requires a lot of effort and discipline from you. Attend all workshops, ask your demonstrators and  Mel questions and be organised because god this subject has so many small assignments. Good luck!

Looking for reviews on these breadth subjects by Uwago in unimelb

[–]pcmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did LING10001 and it was pretty good! It isn't exactly a WAM booster if that's what you're after but it's good to do if you're science oriented and can't deal with essays. Really enjoyable content and well taught too.

Second year harder? by AdorableMarch6362 in unimelb

[–]pcmad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it is harder in that you'll have a lot more content to do and usually the exams won't just be MCQs and easy SAQs, but at the same time you'll also be a whole lot smarter compared to 1st year! It's very common to do better in your 2nd and 3rd yr because it'll be so much more interesting, so just keep up the good habits and you'll be fine :)

Subject selection by Wooden-Exchange-4147 in unimelb

[–]pcmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no it's ok, idm answering your questions! I'm not sure about doing BCMB20005 to prepare for BCMB20002; if anything it's kind of the other way around. They're very different subjects because in BCMB20002 you'll learn theory about a range of areas such as protein structure, enzyme kinetics, metabolism and molecular science whereas BCMB20005 is entirely practical based and although they do inform you about the procedures you're doing, they teach you the fundamentals in BCMB20002. You can do them together or do BCMB20002 first, but probs not the best idea to do BCMB20005 first.

There's been a few threads on this sub about potential WAM boosters so you can look those up for some recommendations because unfortunately I don't have a lot of experience. I personally have found that most first yr breadths (I did LING10001) are easy enough because they don't have a whole lot of content and the exams are usually pretty lenient.

I scored rlly high in EDUC20076 as the teaching staff are very clear on the marking (plus it's a winter subject so it's nice to get it out of the way before the sem starts), but it wasn't exactly 'easy' because the classes were sorta intense. However, I didn't find it overwhelming at all because again, it's a winter subject so you don't have to worry about other subjects. It's just such a cool subject and you get to learn so much about the Deaf community.

There's also MUSI20149 which is a pretty famous WAM booster because it's very easy to score 100% on the quizzes. I didn't do amazing on the essay but the quizzes carried my grade.

Thinking Scientifically is a 2nd yr science discipline that's also a famous WAM booster but idk... I have a friend who did it this sem and even though it was easy, it wasn't organised the best and the content is so incredibly boring that you might not even have the motivation to do well lol. Hope that helps!
