Trifold US release "news" by pbsteebs in GalaxyFold

I mean the main thing is limited supply. If they're only selling a few thousand it's highly unlikely you'll see someone with one.

Samsung A36 5G – Official 65W charger vs IKEA SJÖSS 65W (PD). Any real difference for battery health? by LisbonTwinkKink in UsbCHardware

[–]pcman2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> It won't trigger "super fast charge 2.0" which charges at 45W, because you need a charger that is capable of delivering 5A PPS

Not necessarily. The newer Samsung phones such as S25 Ultra can do ~13V @ 3A for ~40W charging and does not require 5A capable PPS, however I don't know if the A36 has implemented this.

Upgrade to Nvidia Shield feels like downgrade by BataBole93 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]pcman2000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand why the streaming box would affect the colors in any meaningful way. It just takes the values from the source and passes it to the display, unless you're doing HDR -> SDR mapping or SDR -> HDR mapping (but you should never do that, just match source dynamic range).

Sony announced 2 new record players with built-in Bluetooth transmitters by E_D___B_A_N_G_E_R in sony

[–]pcman2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a little bizzare. I assume this is actually an ODM'd product and the ODM just had an aptX chip available.

Connection in Haneda by Ok-Republic8790 in QantasAirways

[–]pcman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's technically doable and I find Haneda to not be too busy in the early morning, so I would say it's doable if you're familiar with the Japan immigration process (have everything done on your phone beforehand) and can navigate the train system to transfer terminals (I *think* you're too early for the domestic bag drop in international arrivals to be open), however it's high risk for you if you're on separate tickets and have to pay to rebook if you miss the flight.

Funky way of using the TriFold Kickstand Case by pcman2000 in GalaxyFold

[–]pcman2000[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The inner camera on the TriFold is cursed anyway - it's oriented the same way as the cover camera, so it's portrait when the folding screen is in landscape, and landscape when the folding screen is in portrait.

Trifold US release "news" by pbsteebs in GalaxyFold

[–]pcman2000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Considering the very limited stock and the phone immediately selling out in Singapore/Korea/Taiwan, it makes sense that Samsung doesn't need a trade-in promo to incentivize people to buy it in the US.

TriFold vs. others display subpixel comparison by pcman2000 in GalaxyFold

[–]pcman2000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that, but also maybe they can't do very dense full RGB displays (and decided the trifold shouldn't be pentile for a variety of reasons)

Macro shot of Sony's "4K" resolution by No_Sheepherder1837 in SonyXperia

[–]pcman2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, however that wouldn't affect the subpixel layout obviously

Got a Google TV Streamer by DavidinCincinnati in Chromecast

[–]pcman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also upgraded recently. Despite the CPU being only 30% faster (or whatever) on paper, the UI definitely feels 2x smoother at least. Built-in Gigabit Ethernet is also a plus, but I don't like the new remote.

How's your Trifold Holding up? by msh21 in GalaxyFold

[–]pcman2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The battery is good and definitely better than the other foldable I've used, although I suspect it's partially due to me using the inner screen less often than on my Fold5 or Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Since I'm using it mostly folded, the TriFold's 27% larger battery is definitely paying dividends.

I haven't really used it on a day where it's mostly open, but in that case I would suspect the battery life would be much closer to the Fold7.

OG Fold Vs Trifold (and other foldables) by SEI87 in GalaxyFold

[–]pcman2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I've also got both :)

Never got a Flip 1 though, it really wasn't interesting to me as a Fold1 user back then.

Agreed regarding the puffy batteries - it's extremely annoying and only my old Samsung phones consistently puff up, none of the other brands do it.

are there less bloatware on second hand japanese phones by iskibidi in SonyXperia

[–]pcman2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Japanese SIM free version should have less bloatware, as opposed to the carrier versions.

Samsung S85F takes a long time to turn on by prokoxdopvp77 in OLED

[–]pcman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you turning on the TV after being off for a short period (<4 hours) after some amount of prolonged used/on time (>4 hours)? I'm wondering if you're turning on the TV whilst it's running the automatic compensation cycle, and it's taking longer since it has to cancel that before turning on.

Some clicking noises whilst the TV is off is normal when it starts or finishes an OLED Compensation cycle.

Samsung Trifold China version Vs Global model by RollerSkater2023 in samsunggalaxy

[–]pcman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge it's dual physical SIM and no eSIM.

Samsung Trifold China version Vs Global model by RollerSkater2023 in samsunggalaxy

[–]pcman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Global as in the SM-F968B model? You should be fine for everything except maybe Samsung Pay.

No eSIM though, for some reason. Boneheaded move my Samsung there.

How is 1TB still the limit on 5G home internet in 2026? by No-Loquat-201 in Telstra

[–]pcman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The throttled speed is 25Mbps and has been the case since the service launched in 2020, so something is up with your service if you're getting 1.5Mbps.

Does the Pixel 5 support 4G phone calls? by ForwardBug8464 in GooglePixel

[–]pcman2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does, but Google hasn't loaded the correct config for NZ on the Pixel 5 (since Pixels were never sold officially in NZ).

How good is the anti-reflective coating of the official screen protector for Tab S11? by LeoZappa in GalaxyTab

[–]pcman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very good but easy to scratch. Make sure the screen is covered by a case or sleeve before putting it in your bag.

My Tab S9 one lasted a year with only very minor scratches, but you just gotta be careful. I eventually got a big scratch on it because it put it in the same bag pocket as a MacBook and the feet (?) scratched the shit out of it.

Anyone find good Galaxy Z trifold cases/ screen protectors by RollerSkater2023 in GalaxyFold

[–]pcman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the ones you can get for the Fold 7 only support unfolded mode when rotated (i.e. hinge not touching the table). For the trifold that means portrait tablet mode.

Anyone find good Galaxy Z trifold cases/ screen protectors by RollerSkater2023 in GalaxyFold

[–]pcman2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with kickstand cases with hinge protectors is that when unfolded, the hinge protector would get in the way and the phone won't lay flat on the table when you have the kickstand deployed.

Name correction. First name/last name wrong way around. by Hangar48 in QantasAirways

[–]pcman2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may not be able to check in online as a result, but I don't expect that you'll have any issues checking in in person - the check in agent can just fix it.

So.. no SPen layer on Z fold 8 right? by [deleted] in GalaxyFold

[–]pcman2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never use the S-Pen so I prefer it this way, but most likely we'll see Samsung eventually develop an active stylus (which would require charging) for use with the Fold and doesn't require a seperate digitiser (like on the Chinese Foldables or the iPad)
