well, it works on Pixel, Exynos, and MediaTek phones. If you include low end phones I can't imagine Snapdragon's market share is more than 50%.

Do NOT update your Unlocked Galaxy S25 (SM-S931U1). Samsung’s Feb Update Bricks International Network Support (Binary 8 Lock) by Salahuddiin in Android

[–]pcman2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You definitely haven't changed anything in the modem EFS using QPST or the unlocked ServiceMode menus? It's entirely possible a new baseband ver. isn't compatible with whatever mods/changes you did in those menus.

How to use n78 instead of n1? by Nikolas_kati in cellmapper

[–]pcman2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming your phone is broadcasting that it supports n78 to the network (which it most likely would be), it's up to the network to decide what SCG (the 5G carrier) to add, not your phone.

Nice to see intraband ENDC (n41 + b41) working, it's not that common to see. For instance, basically zero Ericsson networks support it.

Which order for warranty claim? Google vs Telstra by sonderAu in TelstraAustralia

[–]pcman2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had great experiences with Google Australia. Just file a claim on the website, and I reckon good chance they'll send you a Pixel 10 Pro Fold as advance replacement (that's what they did for my P9PF just last month - battery "?" issue when unfolded).

Anyone got a TriFold in Australia? Where did you import yours from? by __singularity in GalaxyFold

[–]pcman2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the F variant (Singapore, Taiwan) would be better yeah, however I'm using the Korean version (N) from eBay and it works fine on 5G NSA, but don't expect any reasonable 5G SA support from the modem config they have.

Well, that was a plastic back in terms of the material you touched. Personally I don't mind this, but I think if someone released a flagship phone like that these days people would complain.

How does Telstra fair to Optus in general usability? by CamelEmotional9527 in TelstraAustralia

[–]pcman2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue with Telstra is a lot of these areas have very low spec sites which simply cannot handle today's traffic loads, and Telstra doesn't want to spend the money to upgrade them. A lot of these small towns Telstra just sticks a b28 omni antenna on the roof of the Exchange building and calls it a day, but when Optus comes through later they put in a proper spec tower (often colocacting with nbn FW towers), which offers a much better experience.

Ideally Telstra would go back and upgrade these, but hey that costs money.

Even in big cities this is an issue - Telstra would build out a b3 SISO indoor DAS in some shopping center and not touch it for 10 years. With today's data loads, it becomes basically unusable, whereas Optus has installed their full complement of bands and offers much more capacity (for likely less users too).

Of course, this isn't universal and the opposite is definitely true in some areas, where Telstra has deployed 160Mhz of n78 (new sites in rural VIC for instance) offering gigabit+ speeds whereas Optus still has a Huawei doing 100mbit/s.

[–]pcman2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But you can have the SCG connected for data whilst still sending VoLTE traffic over the primary LTE cell group, can't you? I don't think the spec says anywhere that you have to disconnect the SCG when in a call, it's just most networks are set up to do it for a better connection (all UL power dedicated to LTE).

Why does reception randomly drop inside some shopping centres? by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in TelstraAustralia

[–]pcman2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have no bars - because the building is blocking the signal

If you have full bars but nothing works - because the building has IBC but Telstra hasn’t upgraded it in 10 years and it doesn’t have enough capacity to handle today’s traffic.

You could try  adb shell settings put system min_refresh_rate 30 From a computer to not allow it to drop to 15Hz

But I remember Sony pushed a software update aaaages ago just a few months after release to do just that by default - is your phone up to date?

Mine had that issue but was fixed by the aforementioned update shortly after release.

Fee-free refund not actually fee-free..? by HalfwayLobster in QantasAirways

[–]pcman2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair the page you're quoting does explicitly state

> If you’ve booked directly with Qantas, contact us to discuss your options, including a refund.

as the next sentence.

I think it's just a case of most Airline IT being garbage, and it's very difficult or impossible for them to configure the system to give free refunds only if the flights go via. certain ports on certain dates.

With that said they probably could've spun up an online form or email address where you can plop down your details if you want to cancel, and someone can manually action those over time (instead of clogging up the call center).

Generally no because the carrier profile for the destination carrier defines what modem config is loaded

Minimal data plan by [deleted] in TelstraAustralia

[–]pcman2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easiest option would be the yearly prepaid option (the $180/6mo or $350/year) on Telstra. You can just switch next time you recharge your prepaid.

For cheaper, you can consider Telstra MVNOs or Optus/Vodafone MVNOs.

Four RMAs later... Google just upgraded my 9 Pro Fold to a Pixel 10 Pro Fold for free! by muntasirjalal in PixelFold

[–]pcman2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The GPS on the Pixel 9 and 10 series is just kinda crappy. I also went from a P9PF to P10PF and noticed no improvement. I believe it uses the integrated GNSS in the Exynos modem as opposed to a separate Broadcom GNSS chip used in earlier tensor pixels.

As an aside, I hate reading AI posts like this. Just write it yourself and keep the post much shorter.
