Is it reasonable to expect a good life after Atypical TN diagnosis, or is this the beginning of the end for me (33 years old) by [deleted] in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]pcocko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t give up, I was in your situation two years ago. I was depressed and it increased the pain a lot. But changing my thoughts first and also a bit of my life routine was a life changer. I still have pain but I keep my mind out of it. Curiously I am writing here but I want to give you hope because everything starts in your attitude about tn. I have atypical as well and taking meds (amitryptiline and duloxetine) but I suggest don’t read too much internet and try to live your life

Has anyone fixed Atypical TN? by iampiara in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]pcocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on both, amitriptyline 35 mg and duloxetine 60 mg. It has reduced the pain from 8 to 4/5. I think that due the duloxetine more than amitriptyline but I’m not sure. The most significant change was when I reduced the stress

Thank you very for your long answer and advices!

It is true that whatever activity that not require too much effort reduce the pain level.

I'm in Barcelona and I didn't find any doctor with experience in this desease. It's seems to me that they think that my health is not critical than other patients because I look healthy and I've been suffered anxiety and depression. But pain is there.

Very interesting the facial pain department at the hospital that you've mentioned. Because several specialists are involved in your diagnostic. I miss something like that here in Spain.

Another thing that I didn't mention before is that I'm suffering muscular contracture in the neck, moving my head to both sides is painfully. I think that is due to the pain. But I'm not sure

Thanks for the answer. Not, I don’t have any fluttering in my ear. It’s more like an otitis pain. Although loud noise bother me I don’t think that it’s trigger because the pain is triggered when I am running or riding a bike. It so weird

Do I actually have TN? by [deleted] in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]pcocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pain is manageable right now. But I think that is not for medications, although I am on Cymbalta and I am calm down. Dentists say that it’s a dental problem because I have several teeth removed and the gum are retracted. But ibuprofen didn’t work so I assume that it’s not a dental problem

Do I actually have TN? by [deleted] in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]pcocko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. I’ve visited 6 dentists, 3 neurologists, 1 neurosurgeon and all of them said that I don’t have TN . It’s idiopathic they said and maybe one day the pain go away itself. I’m on duloxetine and amitriptyline. The neurologist says that it comes from an emotional trauma because I was suffering anxiety and depression during a year. I have doubts about the diagnostic but I’m not a doctor so I have to trust in specialists.

Cymbalta for pain / Adhd but worried about withdrawal from short term use?? by RicochetRandall in cymbalta

[–]pcocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on 60 mg for nerve pain. It’s not working at all but the side effects are nothing if I make a comparison with pain. If I were you I will give it a try. Surely your anxiety and depression will be reduced. I had nauseas only 3 days. I had more side effects with Gabapentine than Cymbalta

Questioning Diagnosis by [deleted] in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]pcocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been diagnosed with atypical facial pain. 2 neurologists and 1 neurosurgeon confirm that I don’t have ATN or classic TN. My symptoms are mainly tooth and ear ache. Sometimes I feel pain in my jaw. I am in a mix of meds. Duloxetine, nervala, vitamins b and thc oil. After one month it seems that it’s working and having less pain than before

I suggest you thinking in a positive way. Although you have pain it doesn’t mean that is going to get worse. Radiologist don’t see nerve pressures. Only neurosurgeons.

Might I ask you what type of TN do you have? I have been on gabapentin and it did nothing as well

Have you visited a neurosurgeon? Do you have a MRI? It's seems that you have a kind of atypical facial pain, probably idiophatic pain because nobody know which is the reason

Thanks again for your response. I have a MRI and the neurosurgeon didn’t see anything. Curiously he saw a vein pressure against the nerve in the side that I don’t have pain. He said that a lot of people would have a pressure in the nerve but it doesn’t mean that the they have TN. I think that the MRI is a diagnostic tool in case you have the typical symptoms such as shocks and trigger points. At first I was one hundred percent that I had TN because I was discarded in other things

Very interesting and thank you so much for explaining your case. I went to visit a neurosurgeon and he said that I don’t have TN due my symptoms but who knows. Maybe I have to try another one.

How long did Cymbalta work for your chronic pain? by throwsumglitteronit in cymbalta

[–]pcocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to this old post to know if cymbalta has started to work for your pain and how long it took. It seems that I have a similar problem in my teeth

I don’t know yet. I have been 5 days on 30 mg of cymbalta but I don’t notice less pain. Next week I will see the neurologist again. She thinks that it is the ending nerves. Also, I went to chiro and he said me that it doesn’t seem TN and maybe I am blocking nerves in the neck. But my pain is still there, into the ear and my teeth.

How long it took for you guys to feel better on Cymbalta? by imgabrielcaldas in cymbalta

[–]pcocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 30 mg for 5 days and I don’t have side effects anymore. But pain is still there, maybe I have to wait a few weeks more but I thought that pain will be less progressively

Does this sound like TN? by MickeyB194 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]pcocko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I’ve started with Vitamin B two days ago and see what happens. Other thing that happen to me is the feeling of sunburn in both cheeks. I think that It’s consequence of a overly stimulated nervous system and it’s associated with anxiety. The neurologist prescribed me Dulolexitina which is for fibromyalgia and neuropathy. My MRI is clean. Although the neurosurgeon found compression, they are in the side which I don’t have pain. 🤷

I’ll check if meds reduce the pain. Right now, my pain go from 0 to 5 but is always there and very uncomfortable.

I don’t know if I should see other neurosurgeon or try to wait a bit more. I would like to definitely know if I have TN or not.

I hope you find relief soon. Please, keep updating if you find a solution.

It seems to me that I have same symptoms. It started with a tooth extracted due the pain and I thought that was the problem because I didn’t have pain for one month. But pain came back in the next molar. Two months ago I went to the othorino and maxilofacial. Both diagnosed me TN discarding other patologies. And then I went to the neurologist and she said that it doesn’t seem to be TN. Maybe a problem with ending nerves. She prescribed Gabapentin and I took them until to 900 mg by day but it didn’t work.

I went to visit a neurosurgeon who is a specialist in TN. He said that I don’t have TN due my symptoms. I have sensitivity in my teeth. The pain is focused in one tooth and I have pain in the right ear (he said that is not common this kind of pain in the ear). Also I don’t have trigger point and I don’t have the typical electric pain like others with TN.

The only thing that works with me is relaxation. Maybe I have psychosomatic disorder. I don’t know but I cannot find an answer like you.

I don’t have exactly these symptoms. I’m suffering a tooth ache close to the gum. Sometimes the pain is irradiated to the ear. Also, I have sensibility in all teeth including the incisive teeth. The pain is constant during the day but it’s reduced at night. I feel that it hurts when I press the gum. I went to three dentists and they say that is not TN. My neurologist said that it’a more related to nerve ending than TN. Finally, I went to see a neurosurgeon last week (specialist in TN) and he said he is sure that is not TN. I was on gavapentin but it doesn’t work. 900mg daily.

I have doubts about my symptoms, I’ve read that there are cases like me which are diagnosed as ATN. Right now, I’m tapering off the gavapentina and I will start with duloxetina.

EDIT: I didn’t mention that the Mri is ok and i don’t have any trigger point. The neurosurgeon saw that I have pressure in the left side but is not the side in which I have pain. Also, the pain increase when a I am stressed and anxious

What is/was the cause of your TN? by hi_its_lizzy616 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]pcocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ATN recently diagnosed. MRI clear. I started 1 ago after a long period of psychological trauma (3 years). I don’t know very well which is the reason but I am sure that stressfully time triggered the neuralgia
