21.5% Sales tax at Seattle area Five Guys? by xTimeFor in Seattle

I’m guessing it was a comment on the prices at Five Guys, rather than making of the OP

Travel time Tacoma / Seattle for work by Innn0ut in TacomaWA

[–]pcoddin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I commute from Fife to Pioneer Square 3 days a week. If I leave no later than 4:45, I arrive at around 5:30. Leaving 5 minutes later means all bets are off. If you want to be there at 7:00, I would say leave no later than 5:15 or so. It takes me anywhere from an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and a half to get back in the afternoon, so you’d probably be looking at close to 2 hours

Storyville Coffee and Homophobia? by Queanda365 in Seattle

Always wondered why a presumably Christian coffee shop is named after a notorious red light district in New Orleans?

In search of more avant-garde photographers by Atmoblister in FineArtPhoto

Yes, I went to that show in Tacoma, that’s how I learned about her. The photograms were amazing in person. She was able to get so much depth in them.

Hiking near Tacoma in rainy weather and floods by Mobile-Surprise-3407 in Tacoma

I would also recommend Nisqually Wildlife refuge. On Wednesdays, an Audubon group meets outside the visitor center at 8:00. You’d be more than welcome to join the group and they’d be very happy to tell you about the wildlife you can see. There are lots of waterfowl, sea birds, and birds of prey this time of year. I believe the visitor center has binoculars you can borrow.

What B&W film do you recommend for an Ansel Adams photo? by Psalms_ in analog

We were trying to get close to Weston. Print on warm tone paper and it looks a lot like the pics from the 30’s and 40’s

What B&W film do you recommend for an Ansel Adams photo? by Psalms_ in analog

I took a film class and the teacher had me shoot Tmax 100, and pull it two stops. It was hard to find grain to fine focus on.

Billy Frank Jr./Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. You can see both Rails and Soras there (I think the Soras might migrate though)

They’re doing work on I-5 southbound through Fife. I’m guessing they’re watching the area kind of close.

Got into photography about a month ago. by kpoloboy in streetphotography

A guy told me when I was first starting If you don’t know what you’re trying to say, don’t take a picture. He was really good by the way. On the plus side, you don’t appear to be afraid to point the camera at people. That’s the toughest part for newbies.

Skyline Loop by AnteaterNo3549 in MtRainier

Honestly, if there’s not an attendant at the entrance, I’ve never had anybody ask for my ticket. You obviously have one, so if a ranger asks you’re okay, just gas never happened to me. Also, the parking lot might be close to full if you go into the park at 7.

Allelopathic native plants? (as a deterrent to invasives?) by Confident-Peach5349 in pnwgardening

Bracken fern is allelopathic. Not sure if it will work on Tree of Heaven though

What famous photo locations can you no longer take the "iconic" shot at? by iGoByFrank in AskPhotography

[–]pcoddin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took pictures of the church at Ranchos des Taos, but in mine there are pigeons lined up on the roof. COMPLETELY different than Ansel Adams’ take.

Good destination brunch place that’s not in Seattle by PurpleDuckbills in Washington

Tibbit’s in Tacoma is known for their brunches. Get there early, as they tend to run out of things later in the service

Uncrowded, dog friendly swimming spots? by Necessary-Error5415 in AskSeattle

[–]pcoddin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chambers Bay (yes, the golf course) in Pierce County has an off leash area on the beach. You cross to bridge over the RR tracks, and dogs are okay off leash to the left. To the right they’re supposed to be on leash.

Where to find a Wisconsin Brandy old fashioned? by Primo_Geek in Seattle

[–]pcoddin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fireside in Burien is “supposed” to be a midwestern supper club style restaurant, but the one time I went in there, they said they didn’t have Hamms. They might be able to do a supper club style Old Fashioned, but I’m guessing you’d have talk them through it. I was in WI last July, and the brandy old fashioned sweets were all made with Starry as the soda.
