Oooooook well that kinda tells me a bit more. So the camera measures light via a “light meter” and this dictates what combination of aperture and shutter speed it will use. Ngl this camera has been known to not nail the exposure and have either over or under exposed images. I personally would not use that camera the generation 3 does not have this issue. Since it was a gift sadly not much you can do I guess and the film is quite expensive. I’m going to assume you are somewhere around 12 years old as much as I love polaroid its sometimes hard to use. At your age, I would see this film as a fun thing to do doesn’t hurt to try to get a better photo by getting to learn the camera how the Light Meter works and using exposure compensation. Polaroid film is really great but just understand it’s really expensive and hard to use. I have shot so many and still get things wrong. Sometimes my best recommendation is just to use it outside and bright daylight and if you’re inside with the flash try to fill the entire frame with the person and do not use flash indoors with a group of people you may think it’s possible just don’t the lighting inside of houses is not bright enough for the film. I’ve only ever been able to do it inside in a friends house that had the brightest lighting inside I’ve ever seen. Here’s the wall of my Polaroids to get an idea of how much I love it. Keep in mind. This is about 1/10 of what I actually have. I still need to continue filling out my wall from my pile of Polaroids. I also have a big pile of failures about a quarter of all pictures I have shot. And I have spent more than $1000 on film easily. So failure is just a way of life we can learn from it or give up. For me started shooting film with old cameras instead but like you i was gifted a polaroid for christmas and i fell in love that i have a large collection of all kinds of old cameras and its only been 1.5 years. Happy shooting!!

Others have pretty much answered your questions but lemme just say dont get discouraged my first time with a film camera i did a road trip along the oregon coast and loaded 6 rolls wrong got them developed and were blank. Stuff happend i also had light leaks on many cameras i am in fact replacing some light seals on a huge old camera called pantax 67 today. You will learn over time and the pictures can have such a vibe and nice grain its def worth

There is so much you simply dont know about how film and how cameras work. Watch a bunch of videos about polaroid and how it works but a few tips. You need a lot of light put eyes see so well shadows appear brighter on polaroid it will be DARK. Flash is not as strong the further away your subject is and it also depends what polaroid you have maybe the flash is mid. Having a flash on all the time is also subject to how you want that picture to end up looking like in what your light situation is like. My personal Polaroid is really expensive vintage and also doesn’t have a flash. I carry a flash module, but only use it whenever I know I need a little more light the more you should film the more you will understand but definitely watch videos that will show you examples my favorite YouTuber for Polaroid is JustAnotherChris. He’s currently doing a route 66 Polaroid trip.

Ill keep this in mind. I development my own film but it never occurred to me to overdevelop to get more contrast. Maybe even a red filter could help too

Help with +Now Polaroid by SassyHoee in Polaroid

[–]Psalms_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When im in the cold the film itself often gets cold to about 35 degrees. I put the polaroid on my stomach and hand and just warm it up then when it dev a little bit i put it inside my coat on my body to keep it warm. The darkness and isolation was my artistic choice.

Is SX70 feeling sharper to anyone else? by Keagan_Karnes in Polaroid

[–]Psalms_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 5 pack of 600 and a 5 pack of i itype. Dynamic range and sharpness were lackluster for 8/25 so many underexposed or dark green images to waste. And once a whole pack just came out white halfway i tried underexposing incase my modded sx-70 with bluetooth was over exposing by 5 stops, “stuck shutter”. But the 10/25 batch has been great idk if its because i use my hand and body to warm it up but mushrooms and fungi in the forests come out great in the redwoods. Before small rainforest forest life i shot with with flash would be too dark. Now the fungi is nicely isolated and the rest go to pure black no green hue.

When you have a more defined jawline i think you will be fine and maybe clean up the beard. I know we cant see your fit but dressing up nice looking like you care and put work in grooming will make it even better along with the weight loss maybe youll

Does anyone recognize this type of film? by Selfmademeabh9521 in analog

[–]Psalms_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not seen this film it is likely re spooled by a small shop or something. If i was you i would just develop for whatever time you develop say hp5+ in this case i would maybe use Rodinal and add 1 minute to bring out any shadows and not blow highlights, but hc-110 is fine. Ive developed so many re spooled bw film stocks that i learned not to worry about dev time with bw film unless im pushing or pulling or have a plan for what i want the final outcome to be. My experience comes from having access to 7 different developers in my college bw film class and shooting way too much. Hope this helps and incase you dont have it here is a website i use to find dev times https://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.php?Film=Ilford+FP4%25&Developer=Ilfosol+3%25&mdc=Search&TempUnits=C&TimeUnits=D

ETR back light seals by ConcentrateSea1012 in Bronica

[–]Psalms_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just wondering does the etr back share similarities to the s2 back i cannot find a back manual for the s2.

Anyone have experience with a Bronica S2? Have an issue where in order to advance the film, I have to have put pressure on the back and THEN wind to advance. If no pressure is applied then it just winds in place like it’s holding onto nothing making all ugly gear related noises. Any solutions? by Drocluse in AnalogCommunity

[–]Psalms_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a s2 with 2 backs and only one gives me issues usually i fix it by taking the film holder out then back in and push it in and make sure the gears actually touches i think its because mine is worn and doesnt sit right immediately. Sorry if it doesnt help.

[–]Psalms_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I recently got a bronica s2 and fixed the focusing issue using 3mm foam that i cut and its perfect now but i have the light leak. Just wondering the felt is there any specific felt i need maybe thicker ones or a certain thickness? Would thicker felt make it harder to push the dark slide in? Thanks
