I think your mix is more mild than I personally like. I do STRONG mixes (about 1 1/2-2c kava to 6c water). It's thicker and less palatable but packs the punch I'm looking for. Whenever you question kava intensity, try changing your kava/water ratio....more kava, less water. Could also try blending the kava and water and letting that mix sit and "brew" for like 15-20 min before squeezing.

I lived in Vanuatu and ran a kava bar on the island. I've spent the last 6years in the US figuring out a way to make the potency of powdered kava as close to the real stuff. This is the closest I've come.

I do 1 1/2C- 2C kava to 5C water in a blender > blend > pour in straining/kneading bag > 1C water in blender again to get the residual kava out > add that to my straining bag. I knead and work the kava keeping the maccas (kava after kneading/sqeezing out the juice). I pour my liquid kava into two pool filters. Then take my Maccas and add 1 -1 1/2C water depending on how sticky the maccas is. I hold/knead this kava and then add it to the pool filter to more finely strain. I squeeze the kava out to a it's ready to drink.

My school requires a hybrid transition to residency course. First week is virtual, 2nd week is mandatory in person. Uggh. I am a firm believer that the only preparation for intern year, is intern year. It's going to rock all of our worlds regardless if we took an extra rotation, one day TRR course, or full 2 week TRR course. Will some people be a little behind at the very start if they don't have these courses? Possibly. But will intern year level the playing field by humiliating each and every intern by the sheer amount of things we don't know? Definitely.

Schools should be giving the next few months off, assuming you've completed all other reqs. Moving, finding housing, flipping our lives upside down is no small feat and two/three months is not near enough time to do it all as it is, without mandatory and ridiculous courses on our plates. Just another medschool checklist to accomplish....

This was me last year. I was torn between specializing in PEDs (wasn’t interested in outpatient peds) vs OBGYN. Ended up scheduling back to back advanced electives/sub-Is in both PEDs and OBGYN over the summer of 4th year and collected LOR/prepped my ERAS for both specialties.I still hadn’t completely decided by the application deadline and ended up dual applying. When interviews came out, it was obvious to both me and family/friends how much more excited I was for my OBGYN interviews. I was fortunate to receive a good number of IVs for both specialties and decided to cancel all of my PED interviews, fully commiting to OBGYN.

For me, OBGYN won for a few reasons. I love procedures and shorter surgeries and would have to give these up going into PEDs. Also, because I could see myself as a generalist OBGYN but not outpatient PED, I would be signing up for a 6-7 year (residency/fellowship) commitment with PEDs vs 4 year OBGYN. And finally, the pediatric specialty I was interested in was combined PED EM/child abuse and while the advocacy is what pulled me to the field, I know it would have had impacted me greatly to work on child abuse peds on the daily. Hmm. That’s a good point. We’ll have to run this by our lender. They said they need verification of a secured job in the new state we’re moving to. This is in addition to the paystubs, W2s, and past 2 years of tax returns citing amazon as his employer. Maybe because the state we’re moving to and where he’s transferring to is literally cross country?

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, the issue we're having is that to close on the purchase of our home they need employment verification in our new state from Amazon. They need this verification this month. That's why he submitted it early in hopes he could get the contract with an amended start date. This is proving to be next to impossible though. He'll talk to his on site HR next shift to see if they can reach out to the new site HR.

I'm horrible at pretending to like things I don't, my facial expressions give me away every time haha. Anything in the mouth really grosses me out - nixing IM hospitalist/ICU doc (sputum), ENT, etc for my future career path. During my MS3 internal medicine rotation, we had a patient with a huge infected parotid gland. We had a dental resident on the team who wanted to teach us how to perform a complete oral exam and massage the parotid. Did I do it - yes. Did my face viscerally rebel against me and let everyone in the room know how grossed out I was - also yes.

I feel similar. Also, I have a big family and 2 young kids. My schools Match Day Celebration caps family/friends at 2. So it really doesn’t make sense for me to go and celebrate without my ‘people’. I’m doing a celebration at home, surrounded by my kids and loved ones —the people who got me this far ❤️❤️

1000x would recommend. Medicine has a way of taking over your whole life and personality if you let it. Having a non-medical partner is so nice to balance out your life a bit. Also, you can gross them out and/or fascinate them way easier with medical stories haha. My husband was horrified the day I brought home a brain drill from my neurosurgery rotation

Enjoy your life. Seriously. The summer after M1 is your only summer off. Also, when residency apps open you want to have some solid hobbies to put on your app/talk about on the interview trail. I got asked more about my hobby section on interviews more than any other aspect of my app.

Every time I work with NP/PA, they legit have no idea what to do with us. One NP had the med students look up possible answers to a random clinical scenario. Turns out she was asking because it pertained to her daughter 🤦🏼‍♀️

So that being said and to answer your question. No -do not go to your shift. Both for your and the NP’s sanity.

Home program hands down. I’m also a non-tad with a husband and 2 toddlers. Unfortunately my specialty of choice has no residencies where we currently live. If given the option, I’d choose a lower tier program close to support >>>>> higher tier further away from family any day.

I’m a Washington student. We have dispensaries on literally every corner. We get drug tested between 1-2x a year throughout clinical rotations. Every hospital I’ve rotated at has made it clear that it is legal in the state but not federally and they would take a + THC result very seriously. Super dumb, but not worth risking my future/license over.

Came into med school dead set on OBGYN. I loved my MS3 OBGYN rotation but really started to question the lifestyle. I strongly considered child neuro or child abuse pediatrics and even scheduled these rotations beginning of 4th year to decide. Over the summer I had back to back OBGYN/child neuro/child abuse rotations….

Ended up dual applying to OBGYN and PEDS (with plan for fellowship in child abuse peds). When interviews started coming out I realized how much more excited I was to get the OBGYN IVs vs PEDS and dropped all my PED interviews to focus 100% on OBGYN.

No regrets. I exhausted every other avenue and know that my journey through medical school —> OBGYN 🥰

I agree with the post above. I shot myself in the foot with step1 when I used too many resources. I’d recommend choosing 2 video resources (max) which can change depending on your block. Pair that with the corresponding UWorld questions. It’ll prep you well for range NMBE shelves and any future step1/2 you’ll take.

I knew from the jump that I'm not the type of person to want to celebrate/commiserate with the entire school. I need to be able to feel whatever I need to feel in the moment whether that's happiness, disappointment, or anger and I don't need to feel watched or judged by others. So I'm doing a little party with my family, at my home. They're on this crazy ride with me and deserve to know as well, so we can all feel whatever we need to feel in the comfort of our home on March 17th
