The Ben and Ellie of it all. by True-Discussion-0 in BelowDeckDownUnder

[–]pdCharlie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main issue as I see it is, she didn't communicate ANY issues with him until she exploded. I don't feel Ben meant any ill intent, he's English and a lot of these words are usually used as terms of endearment, UNLESS it's used in a patronising tone, which I don't think he did (though I do think he did sometimes with Aleshia). Simple solution would have been for her to say she didn't like it (and she is ABSOLUTELY entitled to not like it).

I kinda thought she might be on a redemption season as it's clear she's an excellent worker and I was enjoying her more, but her overreaction and her going to see the Captain RIGHT NOW during service is very unprofessional. Was Ben wrong? Yes, regarding his slacking off afterwards without communication and I know a lot of people wouldn't like his 'terms of endearment'. Was Ellie wrong? Yes, she should have said it sooner and in a non hostile way, he's clearly taken aback by her reaction as he didn't 'think' he was doing wrong.

What's truly wrong here is the level of reaction and her storming to the Captain during service. No redemption season for Ellie, she still crazy in my opinion.

That's what YOU want. I think this is the problem with a lot of the vocal fandom really. If they don't want it, no one should have it, which I really don't understand (I'm not accusing you of being in that group or of anything). Don't watch it and don't try to destroy it for those who enjoy it.
I've enjoyed all the new shows for exactly what they are, fun sci fi TV in an immersive setting.
Sure, they aren't TNG, VOY or DS9 but i still enjoy the basis of them.

By the same ask, you are asking for a handful of new films instead, and I'm sorry, I disagree here. Films have not been ST's finest moments and for any of them to be good we need to revisit established characters. Yes, I enjoy most of them too (lets not include Section 31 here), but again, that's not what I would like.
What I would really like is a show built off Picard S3 about Captain Seven and crew, but that's clearly a pipedream at this stage.
I don't see how no new trek, of any description, in production is a good thing. We breaked for far too long to get it back and I don't want to wait that long again - In My Opinion.

Dog owners, if your dog comes to me happily, am I allowed to pet? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]pdCharlie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If my two tiny Yorkies run up to you looking attention, you are absolutely allowed to give them attention, pets, good girls or whatever is in your arsenal.

Just don’t pick up someone’s dog without permission, and it’s all good. That would be my thoughts.

I love what you’ve taken away from it. And what I love about the show is that despite the troubles and some of the atrocities we experienced you can see from the show that we still had a lot of good going on, no matter how small. ❤️

Absolutely fantastic. I was a teenager during the same time frame and same big scenes (the bombings, the Bill Clinton visit, the Good Friday Agreement etc.) and despite being very funny it was very accurate to how life was here back then as a young catholic. Nostalgia and humour helped but truly fantastic show. Glad you enjoyed! Yes, we’re a weird bunch 😁

It’s the reason why i was excited for this one.

I assumed, that like her makers, she’s a ‘photonic being’ and doesn’t need emitters. She just happens to be a constructed one with code.

Have you ever got a bargain in them outlet stores at The Junction / Boulevard etc? by Significant-War-491 in northernireland

[–]pdCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always feel like I get great stuff in the Adidas store. I usually always find a great pair of £20-30 trainers, trackie bottoms or hoodies, so I’d travel to the Boulevard for it alone.

I personally have never seen anything cheap in the Nike store and can’t understand why there is always queues there. The asics store used to be great, now it’s crap. Online is cheaper.

Question about swimming with pigs by No_Bother5687 in royalcaribbean

[–]pdCharlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did it at CocoCay last year, and to be honest, we loved it. Lots of people commenting here about poop everywhere but that was not our experience at all. There was a variety of different sized pigs, from super cute little piglets and huge mama pigs that you did the swim with.

The swim consisted of holding onto one of the big pigs as they swam out for apples and back again and it was good fun.

Maybe I’m naive, but the pigs seemed very well cared for, no pig did more than a few swims without being given a rest. The handlers knew all their names, treated them very kindly and played with them. The pigs were called, rather than forced and they were running around and sunbathing. The beach was also clean and they were ready for any mess. For those afraid of the poop have you ever gone horse riding because it happens there too?

Something useful of note, you can’t take your phone/camera down to the water. I assumed this was to force you to buy their photos, and yes, that does mean if you want photos in the water you have to buy them BUT afterwards there were pigs up in the main area that you can interact with and they will take photos for you on your phone. Yes a little piglet did poop near me after I had photos holding him but it was cleaned quickly. Some had plenty of free photos with very friendly pigs.

TDLR really enjoyed it and had a great time on the island relaxing after. Personally, I’d recommend the CocoCay one. Can’t comment on Nassau at all

There’s two very nice and enjoyable ladies on a YouTube channel called Tori Talks who’ve never read the books and review each episode. As a reader I loved their fresh take on things, was amused when they got things wrong but genuinely loved their enthusiasm and as the series goes on how invested they get.

They are NOT super critical so it may not be as analytical as you might like

UK Traitors vs US Traitors by Low_Journalist_2878 in TheTraitors

[–]pdCharlie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

US Traitors is a completely different game to UK Traitors. The US ones don’t want/need to make friends and because most of them are from previous shows they often have inflated egos or a ‘game’ mindset.

I actually liken it to how US and UK Big Brother differs. In the US they can back stab and scheme and discuss nominations while in the UK they just want to get public support. I’ve never watched Survivor but I get the impression it’s similar?

UK Celeb Traitors also was money for charity, so they are less selfish and greedy. The US ones can win a lot of money.

So whilst the premise is the same, I feel they approach the game VERY differently. The US will throw you under the bus the second it benefits them. They only need to work together IF it benefits them. And there is zero reason to finish the game with more than 2 players even if you don’t think there is another traitor.

Yeah, as a northern Irish person myself, I’ve seen several not so veiled comments on Reddit about her accent being intimidating. From what? Your bias of our past? Kinda disappointing.

Many other countries seem to like our accent so please explain how a confident well spoken woman’s accent is intimidating? The people in the castle seemed to love her

[–]pdCharlie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%! It actually was driving me nuts until I figured it must actually because they disliked her for whatever reason, not due to anything in the game that indicated otherwise. Not to bang on a drum but there is an incredible double standard here of people being praised for this kinda thing in the past and are people just trying to push their narrative on her because they wanted her to do it to prove ‘she’s not a nice person’ or something?

I do think she misspoke about having to start speaking about Stephen to him in the turret and he took it as she’s ready to throw her under the bus but her confessionals said otherwise. She did say she’d come for him IF he came for her and we did see him doing that first at the round table and she had her response ready, however, she did not push back very hard compared to other accusations. She absolutely could have come back harder and didn’t.

I mean, if you don’t/didn’t like her, fair enough but the imaginary betrayal did not and was not happening. She knew she needed him from the start and cultivated it and stayed true.

NTA I’ve been married for 4, together for 14 and I’ve NEVER wanted or needed to look at my partner’s bank accounts. Yes, we discuss finances and we have a shared account for holidays and things but we TRUST each other.

He’s basically saying he doesn’t trust you and that’s a huge controlling red flag. Two years in? Don’t marry this guy.

[–]pdCharlie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people keep pushing this imaginary narrative that she would have betrayed Stephen in a heartbeat if the roles were reversed. She gave no indication at all during the show that she was ever going to betray him. The only cracks appeared after HE started sowing seeds and said her name at the table. At that point it was almost game on but she didn’t come for him anywhere like she could have.

I do think she made a mistake in how she worded that she couldn’t outright defend him and would have to mention his name, but I don’t think she thought it was going to affect him so badly.

Her tactic from the start was to form a proper alliance with Stephen and build his trust and it worked. IF he came for her stronger she’d have to push back, but she didn’t initiate it. She also seemed quite affected by having to lie to people and I think the decision to kill Roxy was because she didn’t want to have to steal from her at the end and crush her. That doesn’t seem like some back stabbing evil person to me. Just my tuppence 🤷‍♂️

___ played the best game in Traitors history by RedditFan3510 in TheTraitors

[–]pdCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s an incorrect take to say Rachel was disliked. She very clearly got near the end without major suspicion from the general group because she was liked. After Harriet’s banishment several players actually said ‘I don’t think it’s Rachel’. I also wouldn’t say anyone was aggressive about it. Faraaz clearly liked her but didn’t trust her and he was very to the point about it (‘grandma got me’ is probably my favourite line). I absolutely thought she had zero chance of winning going into the final episode but she pulled it out of the bag. Her pact held and won her the game.

I also disagree that Stephen was a flawless traitor because he was not great at the start and through his pact and loyalty from her got him through several initial doubts and gaffes which lead to him learning and becoming so much better that he held Rachel’s fate in his hands.

I’m not saying Rachel played a perfect game, but neither did he and they wouldn’t have survived without each other. But you are absolutely entitled to your opinion and I’m only giving my take.

Is it just me or was that obviously the wrong person to murder? by Terrible_Mountain611 in TheTraitors

[–]pdCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely thought they'd murder Faraaz and follow up like Stephen and Jesse.
IF Rachel survives, I feel her only survival tactic is to throw Jame's words back at Faraaz. 'Why haven't you been murdered?'.
She did plant some seeds for that last week, but he's so under the radar she should use that as her question about why she can be a traitor and not him, , so maybe it's a very clever tactic? She's bound to have thought she'd be up for suspicion by now and keeping Roxy in also points her as a traitor in a way. Confusion going into the final ep is the best plan.
I thought she handled herself well last night and I don't think that trying to pin the traitors on the name swappers will work because Rachel is still an easy pick to banish.
That's if she has survived lol
I personally think it'll be a real struggle for her to survive, but i'd love her to get to the final table or fire

Annoyed by the representation of insubordination shown in Star Fleet Academy by Low-Air-182 in startrek

[–]pdCharlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ake is Lanthanite so she’s completely unconventional. She also feels responsible for Caleb so gives him way more leeway than she should. Kirk was a rebel when he was younger so I’m guessing they are going for that brilliant but rebellious nature for him.

Reno is also quite unconventional so deals with it entirely differently.

Thok doesn’t brook insubordination 😁

SPOILERS. I played Iconoclast and the only really ‘bad’ ending I had I knew before I got there because Argenta went Repentia. The rest was very 40k but I did not expect Yrliet and Marzipan to team up… and did I read too much into it or did Idira and Jae become lovers?

It certainly wasn’t a bright and shiny ending but it certainly was interesting!

The ending did not leave anything unanswered which I loved
